Hate Groups in Mercer?

I've always enjoyed fishing and hunting in the Mercer Wisconsin area. In preparation for a fishing trip this coming fall, I asked a friend to join me and my family. He raised a concern about the presence of white supremisist mike McQueeny and his KKK chapter. Racism in Mercer? I've never detected that attitude in all the years I've visited. Am I wrong? And what of Mike McQueeny? Does Mercer tolerate its town being the headquarters of hate?

That is both sad and of great concern for a teacher and pastor such as myself who contemplated bringing children of a variety of backgounds to explore the great outdoors in Iron County. I am seriously considering not doing that now.

Simple minded hicks and racist people exist throughout our culture and Mercer is not exempt nor any different then any other area of the US. Come to Iron County or don't but your only fooling your self if you think that where ever you live is free of them. McQueeney after all was born and raised and is a product of Chicago not the Northwoods of Wisconsin.

Thank you for the perspective. Your point is well taken. McQueeny is a product of my end of the midwest. Iron county is a wonderful place and the kids that we bring up there are amazed by the beauty of the outdoors and resolve to preserve such places when they leave. They end up felling that these places are national as well as local treasures. So, the values you get from appreciating the outdoors tend to get past down. At any rate, people like McQueeny give me pause because he does seem to have some support. But, that attitude should not win out.

McQueeny is the Grand Dragon of the Knights and a Major in the Aryan Brotherhood. He has about 20 followers up in mercer, he also runs and owns a local tavern there too. I also believe that their KKK org was allowed to adopt a highway stretch also giving them the capability to advertise on it. He volunteers for the mercer Fire dept also.
I'm a 22 yr old minority that goes up there once every 2 years with some friends. Still kinda scares the shit outta me, specially now with the information I have about him.

I go there all the time, and I never have had a problem. Just because there are some dumb asses there (because of how they where raised). Dosent make the hole town bad. I have meet alot of nice people there. If you live you life worryed about the KKK. You might as well just lock yourself up in your home forever.(and thats what they want.)They are everywhere. Live your life like I live mine. Go where you want to go, see what you want to see. Teach your child To love all like mine did. Because at the end of the night when you turn off the lights we are all the same.
Beside don't we as a country have more important things to worry about (school shoots, bombings the fucking gas prices) Instead of fighting aobut color, we should be all helping each other.

Not all people in Mercer are racist. McQueeny has about 20 followers. Hardly the population of Mercer or the surrounding county.

Look, there is almost no such thing as a live stock farm in Iron county. This is the Northwoods dummy. You know, poor soil, long winters, little population, little industry or business for that matter.
