Nagin praises Cuba's handling of its citizens and hurricanes

As he returns to New Orleans on Thursday after a six-day junket in Cuba , Mayor Ray Nagin almost certainly will face questions about the latest addition to his already extensive collection of controversial comments.

Those with forseight and an in-depth understanding of U.S./Cuban history have called for and are calling for constructive engagement. If the U.S. is to have any influence in the post-Castro era, now is the time to move forward and break from the failed policies of the past. Otherwise, China, Canada and the E.U. will have the upper hand in helping shape Cuba's future.
