Mequon Doctor 7th Person Killed By Runaway Tire

Experts said a Mequon physician killed is at least the seventh person in the U.S. to die this year after a wheel came off a heavy truck.

Was hit by one crossing median from oncoming lane about a yr ago on the "I" just south of WI/IL line.It was about midnight and rainy,only saw a flicker of movement before it hit.It"took out" the entire side of my NEW fullsize Chevy 4x4 clubcab pickup,frt/rear doors,windows,entire side of box,deforming entire box,rear bumper and did minor damage to small trailer I was towing.Damages nearly 15K.No trucker stopped,may have not even known.To best of my knowledge tire(s)/wheel(s)were never found.A smaller,lighter vehicle would prolly have been totalled.

I feel bad that this happens but if a big rig looses a tire, the driver can not feel that they lost it. (This also depends greatly where you have the blow out - inside or outside dual, on the tractor or trailer...)You may get lucky to hear it if you have your window open or catch it in your mirror. I also have been hit by a tire off of a big rig and it was scary as ever. Smashed the bumper to bits, the hood and smashed in the windshield. (I was driving a new BMW) This is just the nature of the beast and one of the risks that just comes with everything.
