Wow! Good for them. I hope Cook can get her passport on time. It will be close.

C'mon, don't infuse politics into this. There's a time and a place for everything. A generous gesture for a deserving woman. Congratulations, Tricia, and have fun on your trip.

A free trip to Australia is quite an upside. The downside is you have to go with Oprah - bummer!

God bless Oprah she does so much overseas, now she's sending her audience overseas. Charity begins at home. I'd like to see her pouring some of her wealth back into the country where she made her riches. People are still below the poverty level in this country and there are areas that could use schools and food. Oprah look around you, in your own country for a worthwhile cause for your giving.

How much money do you think Oprah actually pays towards these "gifts"? My guess is very little.

Didn't she participate in a car give away and when the truth came out she didn't foot a dime to the event...in fact she made money on the deal. Isn't she wonderful.

Ahhhhhhh, remember Murphy's Law? "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." I always wonder how many participants in game shows, "free" giveaways, and contest winners realize that the value of their "win" is an obligation to pay federal income tax at gift value on what they receive? Twenty years ago, when I was living in the twin cities, I "won" a Hobie catamaran with a value of $28,000 in a promotional contest at a mall. I was thrilled -- until I received a notice from the contest sponsor that I had to complete a withholding form and furnish my social security number. A big surprise: the gift tax was 30% of the retail value of the boat, which was (not surprisingly) inflated to the max. I also had to buy a trailer to haul the boat from the dealer where it awaited and pay the dealer the MN sales tax on the inflated retail value. Oh, and the kicker was I would have to makes the quarterly estimated federal tax payment by June 15 (this was late May) on my gift tax due. I refused the catamaran because I simply couldn't afford the "gift." Since then, I watch game show people screaming with joy --think "The Price is Right"--and shake my head at their naivete. I wonder what the Oprah "gift" will cost the lucky recipients?

She has stated publically that she doesn't believe in the Lord.

Interesting, given that she, along with Obama, was a member of Rev Wright's black liberation theology church...maybe she didn't hear a word the Reverand was saying either.

Interesting that an avowed unbeliever can faithfully attend "Rev" Wright's "church!"
