Mary Reavey the Assessment Commissioner is busy fudging the Assessed Value placed on a parcel of property by the Assessor's Office. Only a blind person could not see after thousands of individual sale transactions, thousands of inspections and a thorough study of all Milwaukee neighborhoods that assessment values have gone through the floor. How can falsely and wrongly cheat so many Milwaukee home owners of their hard earned money. Fair value is what a home sells for. If a home in your neighborhood sells for considerably less then previous times then that is what the value is. Plain and simple real estate 101. The sad part of this situation is the assessors office is taking food off families table by fraud. People are losing their home because they can't pay those fake tax assessments. Every homeowner where values have dropped should be at the assessors office demanding an instant reduction in those fake assessments.
Yes it is that simple gather up your neighbors and camp out on the assessors office and demand reductions now. If politicians can't control their spending that is their fault not the home owners.

Not if you remain silent! If home owners not complain then bills go up. The problem is the assessors office takes advantage of ignorance and the majority of home owners remain dumb like sheep, not a sound.

There has been no reduction in taxes. The Madison majority says they cut taxes, but left local municipalities with huge gaps to fill in public service funding. We will find moving forward, that more and more services will be dropped, or need to be paid for on separate billings from private contractors. What they donít take from one pocket, they will take from the other......Itís common knowledge.

It's so difficult to fight bureaucracy. I want my assessment to go up NOT DOWN. If assessed value goes up each yr. as it should then the taxes collected also go up. How in the world can a 10 year rise in assessment suddenly drop in 1 year from $90,000 to $76,000 ??? I think something is drastically wrong (or crooked) with the assessment process. Banks want the assessment's low so their loss isn't as much. So government helps Banks by lowering assessment. Government is shooting themselves in the foot by lowering assessments. The economy would pick up if assessment's continue to go UP not DOWN. It's absolutely fraudulent to reduce assessment. Every year all prices gas, food, rent, GO UP not DOWN. If the property assessment went up then automatically property tax goes up & no new taxes would be called for.

Residential real estate assessment fraud is also happening in Illinois - a lot, values are dropping and assessors indicate assessments with over 200% increases - Attorney General - not her area, Dept of Revenue - not their area. Governor - huh? Families have been loosing their homes since at least 2005 due to the fraud.

The corrupt assessment practices that exist in Lake County, IL are rampant. There are no controls placed upon the assessors who engage in such despicable and unlawful actions. They are accountable to no one. The appeals process is a joke, and demands appeals be done in a myopic, rigid format that does not work for all parcels, as there are not comparable properties for some homes. But if a pattern of misassessment can be shown, the appeals board is not interested because it is comparing different size or style homes. This is so constipated it is hard to believe it would be followed. If say 80% of parcels follow a fairly consistent range of reduction, then those remaining parcels that have not been improved in any way should show a similar reduction. The point is that in Lake county, they do not. Some of these homes are given little if any reduction, and the unfairness of this is so self evident that it only shows either the blindness of the appeal board or there are inappropriate connections between the board, the assessors and perhaps others in the county. This should be a federal crime and easy recourse given the taxpayer, but instead, they have to deal with the Illinois property tax appeal board, which takes forever, and the stories of unfairness and unjustice there are endless.

The deliberate misrepresentation of property value for the purpose of charging more money is plainly FRAUD. Where are the prosecutors? Why are assessors not being prosecuted for FRAUD?
