Wow, that is terrible, but preventable. A mattress should NEVER be purchased second hand. Don't blame the SA for this. I smell lawsuit, which would be too bad for the SA. If it cannot be disinfected or washed in HOT water, you shouldn't buy it second hand. I didn't think they sold bedding. I tried to donate a bed that was three months old many years ago and they said they didn't take mattresses. Times have changed I guess.

I feel sorry that the woman could not afford a new mattress. If she were able to find one at a rummage sale, maybe that would have been better. That is a terrible shame that she had to deal with mites!

those aren't scabies, they are sores from her scratching because she smokes crack. Her friend is supporting her crack habit. I believe she is trying to cover up her sores. She is taking her friends money and they are buying crack. The German Shepard there, his name is Apache. her friends name is Eric, her cats name is SamSam. That is viable evidence that this is not false.

For the love of god, WHO would buy a USED mattress? In most states it is against the law. Just thinking about whoever's DNA is all over it, the mites are the least of her worries.

Something's not right ...

Didn't she see/feel anything BEFORE taking the bath ?
I would have removed that mattress from the house immediately and contacted the store that same day.
How did the mites get to her living room rug, overnight ?

Does she have any witnesses/neighbors/friends that helped her deliver the mattress ?
Did the garbage-men remember disposing of her "old" mattress ?

Did she use a credit card OR did she pay $50 CASH ?

Why did she need a new mattress ?
Even if she DID buy the mattress from SA, what was wrong with her "old" mattress ? Mites ?

I bought (2) name brand mattresses from GW a few years ago for $10 ea. and had no problems.
I left them in the garage for a few months during the winter when it got down to -15F for a week.

Then I completely enclosed them in zippered mattress covera so that I could check them after using them for a few weeks/months... no problems.

If Iknowwhatsup really knows what's up, I did think when watching this story that something was a little off with this lady. She does look a little used, or shall I say, a user.

I find it hard to believe that she doesnt have a receipt or that the store can't produce a copy of the reciept, I mean they have to have records. I don't get it. She should pursue a lawsuit, there are lawyers out there who do pro bono. I would never buy a mattress from the salvation army, thats like buying used underwear. Gross. She would have been better sleeping on the floor. Or hey better yet get an air mattress. She needs to bleach the whole house and clean everything.

Hello,

There is a spreading bedbug invasion in Milwaukee area. The matress/box & nightstands are the most susceptible. There are thee adults and the eggs (40 day incubation). These "gently-used" or thrift store items should really be warehoused separately for 40 days before the stores put them on the floor. The poor lady had a bad experience repeated all over the area. To prevent this item from being taken from her curb, she needed to slash it with a box cutter and spray paint "for garbage truck only" all over it. These are partial solutions amongst some pretty odd blame-sters. There are thrift stores world wide including a gigantic Paris flea market. It must have been named FLEA MARKET for a reason and with gorgeous useful old/antique items and i am sure a few mattresses too.'

I'm glad your offended, why would you buy a mattress, pillow, or even underwear from a place like that.. That's just sick. You might as well buy a second hand tooth brush or hair brush from there... If she did buy it from there she asked for it. You don't know the other uses for that nasty mattress were for lol. That's just wrong though, she's dumb crack addict that was stupid enough to buy something you shouldn't get used...

Every time I go into one of those stores, it smells like there's a fresh turd somewhere.

The mattresses are also probably saturated w/ poo, pee and sperm wads.

It is ILLEGAL to sell used mattresses in all 50 states. That is the only furniture item that cannot be resold. Not really enforced it looks like, but the salvation army is breaking the law in continuing to do so.

Bedbugs typically leave traces of their feces and dried blood at any sharp corner. It can look like dirt or mildew, which is worse at the foot end.
Visiting a motel can bring them into your own house, along with your luggage. Stuffed furniture can be a source of bedbugs too.

I would never buy a second hand mattress from anyone or anywhere. Even if I knew the people who were selling it, I still won't. Usually if I buy something like that, I usually keep the receipt for at least 90 days, just in case the item has to be returned. If her mattress had mites, it won't have taken all night to notice or feel them biting her. You think that she would have notice something was wrong with the mattress within the first hour that she was laying on it. She be itching by then already. No one could not sleep the entire night on an infested mattress, unless they were passed out from something.
