I have been Attending there Auctions , Off ,and on Over the Years .
Harry ' The Auctioneer Has a habit of Bidding against the Buyer ' Leaving them at a disadvantage.
He Bid me up many times , Even on items He didn't want himself ' And would re-auction the Item at a later time . I had enough of being robbed this way ' And will never partake in there Auctions again .
My advice ' Buy your Items the honest way , And stay away .

Yes, we also attended many Betthauser auctions, and also had the same problems.I would consign things into the auction, for extra money to help with bills(like anyone else would),and the people running the auction would bid on the things. Which I thought was a conflict of interest,in my book.It would seem like these items would sell for very little,in the end, then the auction company would bid on the items, themselves using lower numbers. These lower numbered bidders like 5 were actually the people running the show.It would seems slanted, and unfair, and somewhat crooked. Let the other people who come there bid on the items, and not the people running the actual auction. It's not in their best interests to bid on the items, but to just run the auction, and allow people to bid.
They make plenty of money just by running the whole show. But they're greedy, and it's a total conflict of interest. And I don't attend these auctions anymore for that reason, alone.
I caution anyone bringing their items to this place,to sell. You won't get what it's worth!
Sell it at your own rummage, ebay or Craig's List or any other venue, like maybe a trustworthy antique store, but don't bring it to Betthausers Auction Service. And be careful what you buy,the extra added fees can also add it to a lot more than you think! Everything is in their favor and not yours as a seller and a buyer! Beware!

I sold some items collectable vintage dolls harry and his wife maryland play a good con couple routine they praise up the value of your items then they have there bidders buy these items for pennies and resell them on ebay or their auction site. I sold ten dolls over fifty years old and received 34 dollars for all the dolls, the next month I saw my dolls on their website for 80 dollars and up each, when i asked maryland betthauser she replied i should have been their to keep an eye on my items the dolls its my fault harry bought the whole lot for 34 dollars.wow big conflict of interest,i was totally ripped off by a well greased husband and wife con team.

Really disappointed, as a consignor, a handful of my items made it in the auction before it was getting late and they moved to auctioning off full tables. Not worth my time and energy getting the items here for the little bit of money I got. Will take my consigning elsewhere in the future.

We do own a resale store and sometimes buy at the auction to supply the store. Our sellers sign a contract allowing the auction company and their staff to bid at the auction. Their opinion (and ours) is that the items should go to the highest bidder. If that highest bidder is the auction company or one of their staff, it still benefits the seller. We have never had a seller tell us they thought it was a bad idea to restrict the buying of their items so that our workers or our store could not bid.

Unfortunately, sometimes prices realized are not what the seller expects. However, this seller has come up with a total fabrication in this review. They say they saw the dolls for sale on our web site for $80. We do not offer items for sale on our web site and never have. Also, Marilyn would never tell a seller to “keep an eye” on their items. Our contracts strictly forbid a seller to bid on their own items. That is not an auction, but would be a fixed price sale. At our auctions, the items go the bidder who is willing to pay the most, regardless of who that bidder may be.

Unfortunately, sometimes prices realized are not what the seller expects. We cannot make the bidders buy what they don’t want. We always attempt to treat all sellers equally during the auction, but the more desirable items are usually requested first.

The problem with Betthauser's Auction is.... they take in way too much stuff! There are too many consignors at each auction. As a consignor, there is a real good chance that most of your items will still be on your table, unsold, at the end of the night. Then, your entire remaining table gets sold as one lot. If there is something that one of the auction ring people want for themselves, it doesn't come up until the end of the night. If the auctioneer thinks he can get a few extra bucks out of a bidder, he will jack you up. If the auctioneer gets stuck with an item while jacking you up, it gets sold to bidder #5 or bidder #10 (the Betthausers) and you sometimes see that item show up again a few weeks later. Check over the items that you are bidding on, because a lot of broken or damaged stuff comes through the auction, and they don't take anything back. You can however get some great buys if you are careful.

This auction place is crooked, the auctioneer will bid like someone else is bidding but there's no one bidding. I wouldn't trust these cons. If you attend watch out cause you'll get ripped off.

Don't trust the auctioneer or this auction house. They fake bid you up, there's other auctions to attend that are trust worthy.

This auction house is crooked, don't attend and maybe they'll learn not to rip you off by raising vids when no one is bidding. I've seen it time and time again.

Harry the auctioneer is a con artist up bidding on every item. He will go so fast that you won't realize that no one else is bidding against you he's just acting like some else is bidding. Beware of this con artist cause he's been doing it for years. Not only that but when you say Sold that means the item is Sold, well not in his book. He will reopen the bid after he says SOLD, that's not a true auction. Boycott this CON, there's other great auctions out there that won't scam you.
