I don't think so. I think many of us would risk our lives for our dogs. I know I would.

Your dog goes thru the ice, you call the fire department who have the equipment for exactly that type of rescue. It's a good possibility that the dog lives until the fire department arrives and rescues it. I understand why she tried, and my sympathy is with her family.

If Mrs. Knudson had had her phone with her, she may very well have done just that. Your advice is good, but in the moment I might have jumped in after my dog, too, even though I know better. Anyway, my heart goes out to the family for their awful loss.

This is a tragic story but it didn't have to happen. People, think first before you jump in after your dog. You may think it is a noble thing to do, but it is not. It is basically, in the heat of the moment, choosing the dog over your spouse, children and other family and friends. A dog's life, while precious, is not worth the loss of your life.
