A firearm doesn't keep you safe... Creating and maintaining a society in which you don't need one keeps you safe. Creating and maintaining a society in which people think they need a firearm to be safe is a dangerous proposition. I thought we wanted firearms to keep us safe from an overreaching government and home intruders. Now, we need firearms to fill up at the pump?

I hope they're not carrying'n'pumping on the East Coast.

Some times I am required to be in/near the inner city at odd hours of the night and some areas we were advised not to stop for anything, but now if I need gas at 1-2AM I am more likely to stop and fill up anywhere knowing I can protect myself.

Ooooh, the big, bad inner city. Everyone knows how often people are held up at 1-2 AM in the big, ol' city. Give us a break, eh? Are you afraid a bunch of kids will riot? Oh yeah! That happened outside of the inner city (Mayfair Mall & State Fair Park). Are you afraid some so-called white kid will walk in and stick up the joint while you're getting some ice cream? Oh yeah! That happened outside of downtown Kenosha.

Gas stations aren't often located deep inside neighborhoods in the inner city. They're located on brightly lit main streets. You're more likely to get robbed and/or killed delivering a pizza in the inner city than you are stopping for gas. If the guy sticking you up has a firearm and is just as willing to use it, yours doesn't make you anymore safe. This isn't the Old West.

Truth be told, the firearms argument is actually about feeling better about us (due to complacency) letting the world around us grow out-of-our-grasp. It's not just the government, specifically US Congress, it's about our neighborhoods and cities. Responsible people moving back to the cities is a very good current trend. That will make our cities safer, because with those people comes a sense of hope and success in the pursuit of happiness.

The first thing a Drill Instructor/Sergeant does when he/she gets in a new truck of recruits does is to weed out-breakdown-refocus the problems. Why? That refocus will create an atmosphere of responsibility. Then, they take the troops to the range.

I used to live in Milwaukee area. I am so thankful to be away from all those liberals up there.
