Proposition for concealed weapons permits

There's going to be a petition going around in the next couple of months. This petition is to put a proposition on the November ballot to make California a "Shall Issue" state for concealed weapons permits.
As it stands right now, if you want to carry a concealed weapon in California, you have to take a class and apply to either the city you live in or the county sheriff to get a permit. You have to show a real need (known as a good cause statement) to receive a permit. You also submit to a background check and wait who knows how long for the sheriff or police chief to make a decision on whether to give you one or not. The police chiefs usually deny it and refer you to the sheriff. Unless you're connected, the sheriff will normally deny the permit.
Under the proposition as a "shall issue" state, once you go to the class and pass the background check, the sheriff must issue the permit without evaluating your so called "good cause".
California has the strictest gun laws in the country and look at our crime rate. Florida, for example, is a shall issue state and their crime rate plummeted once they became a shall issue state.
With the prison realignment and all the criminals getting released and the already rising crime rate, this can be a good thing. The 2nd Amendment guarantees the right of the people to keep and bear arms and our goverments have been trampling on this right for years. If they take away one right, they can take away all of them.
I'm going to sign the petition and if it makes it to the ballot, I'll vote for it. And yes, this is coming from a cop that believes people need to have the ability to protect themselves when the crap hits the fan.

It was the police chiefs and sheriffs offices that put the pressure on Sacto to end open carry. The LEO community in California does not want their subjects carrying concealed weapons either. The hyprocrisy of this is mind bogling. Be prepared to have a long and bitter fight with the LEO union money. CCW states see a sharp decline in crime after ccw laws are enacted. The LEO unions do not want that. Lower crime means less need for cops, means smaller budgets for police and sherriffs. I will sign the petition gladly but, I am not confident of the outcome. I am married to a cop. It galls me that I am the one that taught her how to shoot. I taught her gun safety and picked out her first weapon. She goes to an academy for a few weeks and bammo she can carry a gun for the rest of her life. When we retire it is straight to a state that respects the constitution.
