Holy Smokes! This is my sons first year playing Pop Warner and I must say I am not impressed! The first day of practice I was told we had like 5 days to sell crap and come up with money for a fundraiser. Then they make us buy a shirt for practice then a week later they handed out free practice jerseys?? Everything so half-assed. The picture were not on the day they were suppose to be. First game is in 3 days and my son only has his pants that he has to return at the end of the season. WTF are we paying for??$200 and everythng has to be returned at the end of the season. I understand the feild cost money, but not that much! They are freaking milking everybody for every red cent. Come on,, and get your shit toether!

After this season my son will be done with Pop Warner! He will be playing Jr. all american next year.

We used to spend around $250.00 for each son to play one tournament. Usually 2 to 3 games depending how well your team was doing, and that was basketball! Then we paid $250.00 for a league that played around 8 games...2 months, usually 2 leagues and on top of that you paid for a gym for practice. And at the end you got to keep your shirt...Well worth the investments, it kept the boys off the streets, made new friends and they all played high school basketball. They now play in adult leagues and remember all the tournaments up and down the State. We spent a lot of time taking the boys to practice and games for many years. They were never going to be pros but it kept them and us busy as a family....We would surely do it again.

I would demand to know where teh dollars are going, this is a non profit and they have to disclose every dollar if you ask. Many other youth sports have become for profit businesses, especially the travel/club tournaments. But I certainly believe Pop Warner is a non profit.

When you look at all these other sports, Little League baseball/softball becomes a bargain. Most leagues only charge $140 and you get roughly 20 games and field practice time. This also includes most of the uniform.

One other thing as advice, if you want to fix it, join their board and fix it from within. These are volunteers, so sitting on the sidelines complaining will get nothing done.

That's why I love AYSO!$85 for registration, includes 10 games and playoffs, full uniform, and pictures. Equipment costs as low as $30 for cleats, shin guards, and a ball. Plus they get great cardio exercize!!! Can't beat that!

I agree with Peter North, my kids will NEVER participate in Pop Warner again. My first mistake was signing them up for Pop Warner instead of All American. The second was "VOLUNTEERING" to coach! I have a large family and one income household. It took planning ahead to add the expense of Pop Warner into our budget...or at least what we thought the expense would be.$325 registration for two kids. But that didn't include any equipment, so add to that $350 for a cheer uniform and $100 for cleats and other various football equipment. Then came the fundraisers,$160 for the mandatory fundraiser, plus we were REQUIRED to have fundraising all season. Opening day (2), candle sales, dinners, find sponsors, and keep going back to friends and relatives with the "gimmes". Then the coach stuff...the coach shirt was $30, CPR card $45, Background check $30, and driving to San Diego for training!!! OVER $1000!!! And, the yearbook they promised us...we didn't SELL enough pages to afford it. Our team party is next week but my kids won't get their trophies because I couldn't pull another $60 out of the air! So, of course, they will hold them hostage. What a sad ending for my kids...Everyone says such wonderful things about Pop Warner. They must not have played in Menifee.

I agree, we won't be doing Pop Warner again I had the same experience with the Wildomar group. The woman in charge of sign-ups was unbelievable snotty. It was one thing after another. I paid for yearbooks that I never got. We never got our trophies either. My emails to the person in charge went unanswered.

I had to pay the registration fee that didn't include all of the fundraisers that we had to do. First it was making enough money to give to the league, then we had to donate items for a donation basket that the money once again went to the league. Then we had to have a dinner that we had to donate money too. Also the practice shirts, which was a rip off since they only wore it for conditioning and then the team needs snacks, drinks and oranges. Also we received our jersey for the boys to keep 3 games before the end of the season. Come to find out that they got a discount and nothing was given back to us. Thank goodness this is my son's last year playing pop warner. I suggest we find out where all the money went and why we didn't get a discount on the fees. Do they know that we are in a recession and not all of us can afford to pay all of these things that we are expected to do and pay for. Also our schedules changed and the only thing we got out of it was my son playing football. He loves the sport and I can't disappoint him and not let him play because of these people who may be stealing money from the league. Menifee Pop Warner get a clue and help out the parents if you want more players to return to the league.

It seems as though a lot of people had a very bad experience last season with MPW. Well as mentioned above in one of the blogs, if you are unhappy with the way the league is being run then get off the pot and volunteer.... If you just sit back and complain you will never help the situation but better yet make it even worse... For all of those parents reading this blog in 2010 you should really consider joining the board... The board is who makes the decision on where the money goes as far as field maintenance, equipment, etc... If there are smart people on the board then smart decisions are made... It really seems like the 2010 board is strong and that they are making smart choices.... The opening day for 2010 was very minimal which is what we needed... When opening days are blown way out of proportion then that just means more money is spent foolishly... People really donít understand what it takes to operate a sport such as football and cheer... Fees such as facility rental, field maintenance, jerseys, first aid kits, player insurance, Equipment costs, and of course the regular pictures and trophies.... All of this stuff adds up.. It doesnít take a math wizard to figure out that the money collected from registration fees and fund raiser money doesnít even cover all that is mentioned above....Team fundraisers are typically done to provide the kids with special parties and stuff like that... Remember that there are 30+ kids on a team and there is no way a coach can pay for a team party for that large of a team... All youth organizations do fundraisers.... Another thing that people have to remember is that there are parents that just DONT pay... That is where a huge loss of income comes in.... When parents donít pay how do you expect the league to pay the necessary bills.... And yes all of the equipment is loaned.. If all of this had to be re-purchased each year the fees would be over 600.00 for each player.... Have you ever gone to a sports store to price all of the equipment??? It is very expensive... Please keep all this in mind when you decide to judge a "Non-Profit" organization... Stop making your own city's youth organization look bad.. They are trying their hardest to run this program and angry upset parentís just makes it harder for those volunteers to continue to work their butts off......

If an organization gave a discount for fees to everyone that requested one the rest of us would have to pay more to account for those discounts in order for that organization to continue with their sports program...where do you think the money comes from? People that pay registration fees! I know that the last few years, more seemed to be required for the "league" and didn't go to the team but I have found that is not the case this year. It's difficult when references are only made to what was and not what is. What is...there are more people on the board this year that are trying to make a change for the better and the coaching quality is a definite plus!

How do you like AYSO now? They can't even get coaches to come and volunteer! Let's compare that to Menifee Pop Warner now. If you are looking at soccer, Cal South is a much better organization.

If you were really interested in where the money is going, this blog isn't going to present it to you. There are more productive ways to try and change something. I'm all for freedom of speech but if I were really upset about something, I would do whatever I could to change what was wrong and unfortunately, writing a blog isn't going to be enough. Instead of giving up and moving on, volunteer, join the board, make a difference, help in making changes. Menifee is still a small community and if we continue to trash all that we have here instead of building it up, its not good for any of us and as nature would have it, only the negative aspects are ever remembered.

Yeah I am one of those parents that signed a child up for AYSO this season... I have had a bad experience with them in the past 2007 & 2008 season with my son but decided to sign my daughter up this season and give them one more try... I get an email from their board basically begging for volunteers and that if they dont get volunteers then they will have to disband some of the teams.... MPW is actually really organized for the amount of participants and I am completly happy with the league thus far....
Keep up the good work MPW 2010 board....

More power to those that chose to do it again. I did volunteer, so I certainly deserve to have my say, here or anywhere. I didn't sit back and milk Pop Warner, I did my part, and them some. I do understand the costs associated with running a non-profit, but when the "benefactors" ask to see the books, you are to show them. I am running my own non-profit so I know the ins and outs. I get it. What I'm about to get is the records for the 2009 year :) Misappropriation can surely shut them down! Then what?!

We signed our child up for pop warner this year and we were very excited. The first week of practice was fine since it was just conditioning but when we got to the second week everything changed. Three different times we saw our child as well as four other boys just sitting to the side watching the other boys practice. We let it go the first day but when it happened again we said something to the coach, he appologized and said he would make sure they were involved. That friday in a two hour practice it happened again where the same group of boys were just sitting to the side, this time for a total of an hour. At this time we decided to pull our child from the program and requested a refund since he would not be a part of the league any longer. We were told that they don't give refunds after May 31. They are supposed to be non profit and there for the kids but yet they keep money for kids that are no longer even part of the organization. It is very sad that an organization as old as this one operates in this manner. I have been around pop warner in one form or another for over 30 years and I have seen alot but never have I seen one that is as greedy as this one.

I was involved with them for years and itís the same as it always will be. It starts with the leaders that can not be voted off they make sure of this. Next they do have an LLC now that people are asking they can use that to hide money. Also you should know they owe money to many different vendors, like Ridell. I do not mind paying extra for my kid to have better training and win games but they cant win for there lives. We joined JAAF this year and we are 3-0 and we are so happy oh and less then half the price.
