Mendota Heights / Sibley unveils new Warrior mascot

Henry Sibley High School unveiled its new mascot, the Warrior, during this year's homecoming festivities.

To my knowledge, the "Indian Head" warrior mascot was not dropped twenty years ago as your article states. In the school year 95/96, Sibley adopted a new mascot. This new mascot was a "Griffin". During that school year, the option of still using the "Indian Head" mascot on letter jackets was available to students. It appears to me that this will be at least the third mascot change since the 95/96 school year. Why not just quit messing around and go back to the "Indian Head" mascot that everyone knows and loves. In my four years at Sibley, I never once heard anyone, Native American or otherwise complain about our mascot.

This story lacks EVERYTHING. What does this new "warrior" mascott look like. What was the community and student feedback that they worked off of to come up with this new mascott?

"I feel that there was a lack of identity prior to the change," said Brian Ihrke. Umm, so what's the identity now?

They changed the whole sibley look just last year or the year before, I forget. now they're doing it again. I just don't get it.

I graduated from SSP in 1982 and to me, Sibley will always be what it was then. Strong, fierce, enemy.(hate to admit strong and fierce, but that IS what they portrayed!)

Oh, and Buffy and Jody (hockey ain't no Family Affair!) ah, the good old days of sibley/ssp hockey rivalry.
