We have some of the highest education spending in the nation, and all we have is a couple Rochester metro schools with significant rankings. Proof that more money doesn't mean more results.

That is where the money is....they are privileged kids there.....they should be doing well...they have the tools to excel and if they aren't making it on their own accord, mommy and daddy can hire tutors to make sure they get it. I wouldn't put too mucn stock in this....you don't know the criteria that was used and what schools were evaluated..just another useless study.....

If you read the story you know the answer to everything you just questioned.

from the story:
U.S. News analyzes how schools are educating all of their students, including minority and disadvantaged students and they compare college-bound students and test results.

More than 21,000 public high schools were evaluated.

That's what they say.....but it would be interesting to delve into the real facts.....percentages of minority and disadvantaged students....let's be real...in Pittsford, we would be talking privileged minority.....kids of Asian and Indian docs, adopted kids of these lawyers, docs and upper class families that qualify as minority...the term minority is pretty abstract...what is disadvantaged by their terms?
Are they talking about the urban/suburban program...which is a joke in itself.....just because some group publishes their own study does not make it a reliable fact....it is their spin to what may or may not be reality.

Sounds like alot of envy and jealousy to me. 99% of the people in those area's work extremely hard in order to give their children the best education. One of them just may be the doctor that saves your life someday. Don't hate.

No hate burbs, just facts. He's not saying they don't work hard, just thatthese kids have more options if they do need help.
My son struggled in school and summer school was over $300.00 a course.
Many families can't afford this. I couldn't and for four years he needed to take 2 courses every summer- you do the math burbs... There are children left behind when you can't afford tutors & summer school.

Just because you disagree with something doesn't make it untrue.... if you want to re-evaluate all 21,000 schools feel free.

Not at all......my ex actually is a doc and still resides in Pittsford....know what it's all about....I no longer live there and my kids do not attend school in that district. Never said that these parents don't work hard..the opportunities for their children are obviously endless and much more accessible. There is no reason these kids cannot and should not excel...which translates to the study result. As I already mentioned, the minority are privileged minority for the most part...either by adoption which is significant given the fact these families can afford to do so as well as the population that is drawn to Pittsford and Mendon by the well educated and successful minorities. It was my preference not to be in Pittsford....they may be named on this list as a success but the trade off is that I want my kids to see more of a real perspective of life rather than just exposure to the upper class.

Just putting my 2 cents in....the fact that these schools were named on the list has no effect on me or to most of us. I just happened to come across the story which really isn't all that newsworthy and equally not worthy of wasting any more time on it.
Good for Pittsford/Mendon.....I'm sure kids from the other districts will get in to the same collegs and be just as succcessful in life. The tragedy is that when some of these kids into the real world, it will be a culture shock....that is when their challenges will surface.

Has no effect on you and is not newsworthy? LOL! You just wrote a book in 4 postings (I lost track of the count) and it does not effect you? Your ex' is a doctor (allegedly) and you "choose" not to live in that area? I see whats going on here. Get over it already!

Yes, I said choose.....obviously having a doc as an ex would afford me the option of staying in Pittsford if I so desired....you assumption is inaccurate. And as I said, I happened to stumble on this story....had I been the news director at WHEC, I would have passed this story up for something more intriguiing...outside of the weather, today must have been a slow news day. I am home sick today and obviously having a boring day myself or I wouldn't have bothered with this at all....but thank you for reminding me why it's not worth the effort.

I've heard that there is a big difference between West side & East side of Rochester, like the "travel and Tourism"class at the airport is open to all school districts but only the east side is actually told about it...
