Please explain why, in your opening news story tonight, you felt it necessary to use an obviously Roman Catholic church in the background during Danya Bacchus' introduction of a story on sexual assault in a church. Your story was about Bellevue Baptist church, was it not? Surely, your news department has some stock footage of Bellevue Baptist that would have been more "politically correct". Was your reasoning directed at keeping alive the recent stories involving the Catholic Diocese of Memphis concerning sexual abuse and to incite more outrage ?

Tell me, what did the opening picture and the feature have to do with each other? "One of these things is not like the other one."

I am disappointed at your lack of research and rationale.

This is a very sad thing for a young handicapped woman. The news failed to report that the young man was also mentally handicapped. I can only pray for the families.

I am confused about something, it says that this guy followed the victim into the bathroom in church and attempted this assault, but then it says that he went to her home and did it again ? Did he follow her home and break into her house ? How did he find out where she lived and how did he get into her house ? I re-read the article twice and I didn't see where it mentions this ? Was this guy stalking the victim ?

I am not excusing this man's actions but the whole facts have not been revealed on this story... I have met this man before, he is a customer at a business next to my work. He , himself is handicapped. He and some friends were involved in a car wreck when he was a teenager in which the car they were travelling in was struck by a train. He suffered brain damage. I used to see him riding with an older woman whom I have to assume is his mother but recently have seen him alone. I feel very badly for this woman but someone needs to investigate whether or not he is of sufficient mental capacity to be driving around without some sort of aid. I hope this get investigated further and the report is corrected

I have known Matt all his life; the media fails to report he has had brain surgery from a train accident many years ago in fact he was in a coma for almost a year. I can assure you there is more to this story than being reported: a lot of misunderstanding and probably miscommunication between 2 handicapped individuals. Appears to me someone wants to benefit financially from a lawsuit and doesn't know or care to know the whole circumstances. I would testtify in court I would trust him around my 16 yr old daughter he would never lay a finger on her. The supposed victim was leading him on and wasn't even aware of it. Very unfortunate for both families but blown way out of proportion obviously for Someones financial gain.

For what it's worth...the news reporters for this story OBVIOUSLY left out some important details to make this story as controversial as possible.
Most of us know that there are 1, 2, and even 3 sides to every story- especially when it comes to 'breaking news' television stories. The reporters emphasized the fact that the girl had Asperger's syndrome, but COMPLETELY failed to mention that the gentleman involved was a passenger in an almost fatal train accident years ago that caused permanent brain damage- specifically his cognitive judgement and reasoning part of the brain.
I am not writing to excuse what happened, but I hope that all of you who are so quick to judge who and what this guy is about, can take a step back and know he is HUMAN and he is loved by many.
As a Christian, I hope and pray we can ALL find some kind of forgiveness for the poor decisions this guy made and of course, sympathy for the female who was involved.
God Bless!!!!

pretty poor news reporting here. I know Matt as well. Good Kid that had a horrible break and pays for it everyday. kind of opens your eyes to the fact that there is always a flip side to every story and judgement often comes too fast. Good luck Matt.

She invited him over later that day...after she claims she was assaulted at Church! She must have been really upset over the alleged assault!!
The young man in question is far more handicapped than this young lady and only has the use of one hand, as he is paralyzed on one side of his body. In addition, he has serious judgment and mental capacity issues resulting from a horrible brain injury he suffered in a car/train collision. If anyone was taken advantage of here, it most likely was him!..The media should be completely ashamed of reporting a story of this inflammatory nature without investigating all the facts of the case from both sides. The young man could not have found her address without her telling him how to put it in his GPS, after she gave it to him.
Again, I hope those so quick to judge will pray for this mother who apparently is, as some others have said, looking for monetary gain from a very sad situation that is quite possibly fabricated!!

he may have assaulted her, but Asperger's is a made-up BS syndrome...people use to be awkward, not they have to be diagnosed, whatever!

It is a shame you react so quickly and in such an ugly manner without realizing that the media has not investigated this case AT ALL and is reporting a very salacious story for sensationalism.
This young man is far more handicapped than the young lady in question. They are the same age. After alleging assault at church she later invited him over...at which point SHE had to give him her address to put into his GPS in order for him to find her house, as he only knew her by her first name, which she gave him at church after approaching him and asking to sit with him.
His handicaps include a severe and traumatic brain injury resulting from a car/train accident. He is paralyzed on one side and is probably incapable of assaulting anyone, as he requires help with his own clothing.
How sad that the media is so quick to jump on something and ruin someone's life with none of the facts.

And if the media had bothered to report the true facts you might realize that this seriously handicapped, partially paralyzed, sweet young man might not be the one going to hell here

Perhaps if you knew the facts before being so judgmental you would know that it is probably he who is being taken advantage of.
He is a very kind, sweet young man who has far more serious handicaps than this young lady, who approached him at church, knowing he was lonely and asked to sit with him.
She is the one who had to supply him with her address if he went to her house later. I am surprised she would do this if she was upset by an alleged assault.
He is paralyzed on one side and could not undo anyone else's clothing if he tried.
He probably could BE assaulted but doubtfully could commit assault!!
He has a very serious brain injury resulting from an automobile accident and appears to be incapable of what he is accused of doing.
I am SHOCKED that the media would report such a story without finding out the truth from both sides!! But, they do love to inflame!!
In this case, this will affect his life forever, while the accuser and her mother wouldn't even bother to show their faces.

If anyone should sue, it sounds like someone should sue for defamation. Stat.

And I agree, if this woman was so threateneed by the assault she endured at church, why on earth would she have him as a guest in her home? And if she's so inept in dealing with social situations with boys, why wasn't she being supervised?

I, too, am put-off by the mother's refusal to appear before cameras. I hope she knows at soem point someone will reveal her identity and could possibly even sue her. She should be ashamed uof herself for soeaking to the media this way and not sharing the entire truth. If she is responsible for nothing else, she is completely responsible for allowing this story to be handled in this way and releasing only choice information that favors her own agenda.

"he may have assaulted her, but Asperger's is a made-up BS syndrome...people use to be awkward, not they have to be diagnosed, whatever!"

Before you speak you need to do research on aspergers. These children and adult's don't ask for it but live with it daily. I know I have a son with it and it effects the whole family. Our life is spent trying to teach others about the disorder and seeing that our son has a chance to be a wage earning individual as a adult. When other children are playing sports, going to parties and spending the night with their friends we are doing doctor appointments, occupational therapy, speech therapy, social skills classes, getting ready for the next IEP, fighting schools and city governments over bullying and discrimination, just so that our child has a chance when he becomes a adult. Asperger is a form of autism not covered by most insurance. You even have to fight for that.
http://www.aspergersyndrome.org/
Next time don't say something is BS just because you don't know what it is. Scary there are some doctors who don't know what it is and kids slip through the cracks. It is not a easy diagnose to get either it only took my son 3 long years to get his. Then I spent the next 6 years learning all I could and teaching his teachers and principals how asperger works. But I will say attitudes like yours makes life so much harder for these individuals than it should be..l they already have enough on their plate. These kids are not dumb I know that for a fact.. my son scored a 19 on his ACT at the age of 12. Goggle famous aspies and you we be shocked at the list. Where would we be without some of these individuals in history? You would not be using your computer and software without one of them.
