They aught to do a sexual examination of the young girl, I can almost bet they were having sexual relations. Look at how many Memhis Police Officers are getting caught up in situations like this. It's a lot more prevalent than most people realize.

I AM SO TIRED OF PEOPLE THINKING THAT, LIVING IN CERTAIN NEIGHBORHOODS PROTECTS THEM FROM DRUGS, CRIME AND PERVERTS.

Despite the urging of reader "Joe Citizen" of Collierville, TN, this
young woman cannot be forced to have
a physical exam of any kind against her
will under these circumstances. She is
the victim if statutory rape occurred,
not a co-defendant. The law does not
force victims to undergo a forcible attack (one against her will) to enable
the verification of theoretical crimes.

It didn't say anything about them being inappropriately attired, let alone having sex. All that was reported was that he was in a car with a 17yr old "woman". He already resigned from his career so his misconduct won't be held against him. What might get him is having a loaded gun AND alcohol in the car - I thing that will be the biggie. The girl is 17 and that is the "age of consent" I think. Certainly bad judgment on his part.

The young girl would have to consent. And it sounds as though she probably wouldn't. Shame on you for jumping to that anyway. Maybe she just wanted a drink? Regardless, he is the adult and he is at fault.

Good information. Thanks! I wish more police would put these comments out for those of us that have no clue to what the laws are. Again, Thanks!!

".....and another one bites the dust !!!"

Why am I not surprised?? The egos of so many officers today are grossly inflated; they will risk everything to keep their egos in orbit.
Oh, well. What goes up, must eventually come down.

Hey Denese, I in no way want to get into an argument with you but you have to know that there are neighborhoods you just don't want to go through. I am white and lived in Memphis until a year and a half ago. My best friend is black and lives downtown on Florida St. He has told me horror stories about the gunfire at night that has had he and his wife crawling under the bed. Yes my friend, this is a fact.

I think there is more to this story. There are officers on the force who have done much worse. Couldn't just get a reprimand? Cause the report doesn't say they were doing anything, undressed, etc. He's an officer, so, we can expect him to have a gun. I think there was poor judgement here, more so than a crime. Do we always call out the firing squad when people are caught with open alcohol? Did he know that the girl was 17? And writer, atleast keep the man's name right - Dickey or Hickey?

look it up news channel 3 ...this is not the first time for this officer. He should have been fired a long time ago. He is/was/always will be a sexual predator. look it up..his discipline record and others tell all

Yeah, especially when your neighbor is giving a badge to anyone with a pulse just because they have the accepted zip code.

That tidbit of information would make the story a little clearer. Thanks, Bigun.

Unless you know what you're talking about, then keep your mouth shut. It's people like you that keep the rumor mill going strong! If this had been anyone other than a MPD Officer, he would have been slapped on the wrist and let go. The media keeps bringing up that he had a loaded gun in the car, well of course he had a loaded gun. It's policy that Off Duty MPD Officers carry their "loaded" Duty weapon. You say he was always a sexual predator, but you offer no proof to back your statement. All this guy did was a bad judgment call. He shouldn't have been out with a 17 year old, but she shouldn't have been out with him as well. Don’t jump to conclusions unless you know the entire story, but I guess you still believe the news always tells the truth…

Teens are as accountable as adults; they commit murder, prostitution, and yes, enticement. It is true that as an adult police officer, Hickey was irresponsible but this young woman played a vital part in what happened. Many adults have been victimized by "looking for a good time teens". The sad thing is that the teen gets off as totally innocent with no reprimand and in this case, Hickey will most likely be charged on all acounts and more. I believe that a 17 year old should be viewed as an adult. Laws do not reflect the cultural changes regarding the new morality. Sex and immorality reign in our society (tv, sports, ads, movies) and here's an example of the fruit of this corruption.

Don' bet your sweet a$$ that this poor young 17 year old is some cinderella princess victimized by a veteran cop. She knew exactly what she was doing but the poor cop got caught up in a euphoric state and his rational thinking was overcome by stinking thinking. Now his life is wrecked along with his "poor family who is really the victim". The 17 year old, unless she was raped, willing chose to be where she was.

He is a disgrace to the uniform. Mississippi does not play when it comes to child molestors. He is supposed to stand out as a beacon of the law.

Well they were in a car with open containers. So What. If they were having sex and it was against the laws of this state, then they/he/she broke the law...\..
.. IN most cases girls are already having sex at 15 with whoever they want. If this girl wanted to be with this guy and he wanted to get with her. Bang it's on. No one hurt ( unless pregnancy ).

......
Did it hurt anything? NO. Is some of this situation against the law? Yes Will the guy probably get divorced? Probably. Will the girl find another "Older Guy" to brag to her girlfriends about? Of Course. When the girl is older will she date "Men of Power" ? Yes.

So you see nothing will change for the girl.
Maybe it will be a politician next time.
