This is not shocking at all! Memphis Police may be one the worst police departments ever! Last year on Beale after BBQ Fest I saw officers beat two of my friends to the ground then pepper sprayed them and continue beating them with their night sticks!(Their injuries were severe enough that an ambulance had to be called, and in the Police report the officers said their injuries were caused because they "fell and landed on their face".) Being the type of person I am I stood up and said something to the officers and I too was taken to the ground and put in the back of a police car! All three of us hired lawyers and planned to take on the department but we dropped the case after all of our cases were dismissed! I regret it to this very day!

A blackeye is considered minor wouldn't you say? Besides, had he not acted like a dumbass, this wouldn't have occured. Personal responsibility. Now because he was drunk and reached for a policemans gun belt and got what he deserved, he will sue the city? Doesn't make alot of sense to me. He should probably have been sent to the hospital, instead of jail, for doing that.

If you don't like MPD or Memphis, hit the bricks. You have no idea what they go through on a daily basis. And of course everybody is innocent, they do nothing wrong and the mean ol police man hurt me, oh please...........

Instead of taking you three to jail, they should have dropped you off on Danny Thomas near the Projects and made you walk back to your car. I guarantee you'd be too scared to play grab azz or whatever you guys did to get yourself in trouble. Oxford...LOL.

I was downtown this weekend; it seems the police and the workers downtown are edgy and are itching for a fight. The workers are disrespectful and nasty to the customers and the police yearn to beat you to a pulp for the smallest infraction. This is not good; the workers are going to run the tourists away, and the police, especially when they are dealing with a bunch of drunk people who are being encouraged by the city to get drunk in order to promote the city of Memphis and to increase its economic base, are giving the city a deserved reputation of police brutality. Both the workers and the Police officers need additional training to deal with the crowd downtown, or they should close Beale Street down.

Another fine example of the kind of trouble that plagues Beale Street ... my brother's band plays frequently at the Hard Rock but I refuse to go because of safety concerns - last year on the 4th of July while escorting my mother to one brother shows a young woman was shot right in front of us.... I don't understand why Beale has turned into a hood rats hangout ... I feel safer in New Orleans than I do downtown.

These lil'punk drunks got what they deserved. Nothing less wouldve come from their Father had they been home & acted an ass. MPD did what they thought best.! Im glad they popped them once or twice. Maybe they'll think twice next time! If YOU are drunk & disordly, how do you remember exactly what happened.?

Call the Wah-mbulance! You don't even have the cajones to put your name in your statement "anonymous". You regret it because you didn't get the payday you wanted. You are obviously a coward because you want to tell everyone "being the type of person" you are you said something - hogwash! You want someone to think you're brave when you know it isn't true. You're a waste of space.

Not a surprise at all, they send the cops who get into trouble to patrol beale. That makes sense right sense its the major tourist attraction, send the trouble makers there.

Secondly, unless you live in a 100k+ home in this city the police will not help you at all and its a waste of time calling them. Just a few weeks ago a grandmother was picking up her grandchildren for church across the street from my home. The guy next door who is in and out of jail, was sitting there drunk cursing up a storm, when the woman asked him to watch his langauge because of the children who were playing, he decided to throw a brick at her car and then her grandchild's bike across the roof. When the police showed up they said they could do nothing because they didn't witness the crime take place. He had fled the scene and they said all they could do is look for him and take him down on public intox. I could go on with at least 10 stories just the same, police are called for assault or property damage and they don't even make a report.

There are plenty of these stories everyday that don't make news. Yes officers deal with a lot of BS but, there is no excuse for excessive force, destruction of personal property or not filing a report when called to a crime scene.

Beale St. has been going to crap over the past few years. Jig-a-boos are taking over and there has been nothing but trouble ever since. This also reminds me of what used to be a nice Country/Dance club called Denim and Diamonds back in the day. The owner decided to have "Soul Night" on Sundays and the next thing you know every night was Soul Night. Soon after the was nothing but trouble, gun shots, fights etc. Next thing you know the place is shut down. Beale St. is headed in the same direction, sad but true.

What happened here? The cops that are responsible decide to comment? Anyone who thinks that innocent people are not arrested should ask, "Why were the charges dropped in so many cases like this." Look it up. And if you don't think some police don't abuse their authority to the fullest degree, then you are truelly naive. Your perspective will change when it happens to you or a loved one.

The cops on Beale street over the past weekend where not acting like cops. They were not there to protect and serve, they were there to have fun at the expense of the people that travel to Memphis and pour millions of dollars into the local economy.
Something bad needs to happen to this type of cop, for example; house burns down, child becomes sick, wife sleeps with his best friend, etc.

You must be one of the cops that thought 'to protect and serve' meant 'beat innocent civilians and then arrest them'. Your parents must be real proud of you big boy.
