I am planning on moving back to Memphis because I miss it SO much. I know a lot of ignorant people have negative things to say about Memphis, but I truly think it is beautiful and distinctive. After moving back to my hometown and various places, I realize Memphis is far superior to anywhere I'm going to find. I lived in the Bartlett area before, and I remember it being EXTREMELY safe, inexpensive and near some amazing parks. Are there any areas similar to Bartlett? & does anyone know of any safe apartment complexes? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!:)

LOL. Thanks for making me laugh. You people are such drama queens. In reality all people who deal with crime in Memphis are IDIOTS. You should be smart enough to know where to live and where not to live. Don't blame an entire city for your lack of intelligence. Last time I lived in Bartlett and I had not even ONE close call with anything crime related, and I lived there for a year and a half.

I assure you that I'm not a racist redneck who hates anybody.

I still own a place in Gtown, and spent over 15 awful years in Memphis, albeit in executive positions.

I have very good friends here..met my (x)wife there (she's from Nashville but despises Memphis, okay?). We agreed to never rear our children in such a repressive, stupid city...such as Memphis, TN.

Given any intelligent choice, I too would NOT advise anyone "moving BACK" or even "moving TO" this punitive, backward place called Memphis ! never as I said, if given a rreal choice !!! why ? when there are much better cites to live in, smaller and larger such as Charlotte, Raleigh, Austin, Portland, Nashville, Huntsville, Spartanburg-Greenvile, Tampa, Fayetteville, Carmel, NOVA, etc etc

BARTLETT ?? that sucks too...maybe Collierville, or Arlington MAYBE my choice would be to put Memphis TN in the rearview mirror, and it's NOT because of black folks OR white folks alone ! it's undereducated, parochial, poorly run, bifucated, racist no doubt (both sides), and just PLAIN BEHIND THE CURVE....if you don't think Memphis is solely lacking, you should try living in other places in the region and nation !

Nope, I would dissuade anyone from deliberately "choosing" Memphis over many other cities in the US and the south

It's not "worth" the "experience"

How does Bartlett "suck"? What're you 12? Barlett is actually a really safe, quiet, close knit community with it's own police station. It's safe, beautiful, and extremely historic. For you to dismiss it because you've already given up on a city due to PERSONAL experiences, is extremely immature. I would rather live in a place where the people are real and easy going than a pretentious yuppie city that's trendy at the current time. I moved to the area of the country I am currently living in because of that and I seriously regret it. Barlett had such a unique character about it. TN is also one of the most scenic states in the country so you cannot deny the natural beauty that is present in Memphis and areas surrounding just because of your bias is just plain ignorant. Learn to appreciate the positive in life. You would probably be a much happier person.

Look Ello, if you think Memphis is a cutting edge city, you go right ahead and believe that rubbish.

Everyone has "personal experiences" my friend ! "Experience is the Writer on the Mind". Clearly you can't read and fully comprehend. I own a house in Germantown. I also spent well over a DECADE in that city - on a professional level. It is also NOT the only city I've lived in the south or this great nation.

To suggest my experience, ergo opinion is "ignorant" begs the question...why ? is it "ignorant" based on what YOU choose to believe ?? that's sophomoric to say the least.

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything my dear friend.

HELL, I live on the BEACH !! get it ??

and Bartlett DOES suck even compared to germantown or Collierville ! anyone who has spent more than 10 years in the hellhole of Memphis will more than likely agree with that comparison.

Get real friend and ENJOY

I have a tee time @1:30, beautiful weather today !!

Memphis sucks, friend...it doesn't "Have to", but the fact of the matter IT DOES SUCK compared to many other places to live.....duh

You all have personal experiences because you aren't able to choose a proper area to live. Like I said, I NEVER once had a problem. Neither did anyone I knew when I lived there. I would never want to live in a place with a beach, I would prefer a city with actual SEASONS. Just because you think someplace sucks and a bunch of other whiny people do too doesn't mean everyone else feels that way. Memphis is truly a vibrant, unique, and gorgeous city if you have common sense. People have a tendency to bring crime upon themselves by being idiots.

Also, I don't care that you had "tea time"... you can do that in Memphis too. The weather there can be beautiful and so are the porches on the older, historic houses.

I'm actually moving back to Memphis after 6 years. Memphis is getting better folks. Couldn't get much worse though. They have greenlines, they are razing abandoned homes, transforming the old Sears building, south main district is growing, riverfront development, a mayor who is not a crack head, etc. While it still has a long way to go, things ARE getting better.
I'm not sure what you consider inexpensive. I have not lived in apts for years. Are you looking for Memphis or suburbs? Houston Levee and Hwy 64 in Cordova has a lot of new apartment communities. Good luck.
