Didn't know you were logging in my visits. I'm VERY aware of how the school operate and have always had a good response with any complaints I've had. I pop into my children's schools from time-to-time as well as PTO, classroom parties, etc. My oldest was in a Bartlett school before coming to Fayette County and besides the administration at the top of the school system food chain and more limited supplies, the schools were pretty comparable (principal/teacher-wise).

So, someone should get elected to the school board and if they don't like how the school system is running then they should just put thier kids in private school? Are you kidding me? Does that make sense? Holy cow - I'm GLAD Linda Barton is keeping her kids in public school and that she cares enough to try to make the system even better than it is.

If you don't like the school board - guess what? You can go vote at the next election for the member that represents you. Frankly I feel like the board is doing thier job and maybe now they can get somewhere with a superintendent that actually follows thier policy.

I for one is happy about this. There should be more people put out of the fayette county school systems. Like Mr Leflore of East Jr High. That school is a mad house. I have never seen where teachers and other employees of the school could not control a bunch of 6th, 7th or 8th graders. The kids at East are not learning anything. Miles Wilson and Mr Leflore has been aware of this for years and yet nothing has changed. Well so far so good. Now get the rest of the idiots that do not care about our childrens education out of there. Please Mr King,Superintendent of the Haywood County school System, PLease come back to Fayette County. If anyone could make a change in the county you can. You have proven that in years past.
You should write the board members with your suggestion of Mr. King if you feel that strongly. I'm sure they will be putting feelers out for good replacements soon! You can find thier contact information online for Fayette County. I think we should all be praying for just the right person to come under thier radar.

This is utterly ridiculous! Mr. Wilson has provided several employment and scholasitc opportunities to teachers, parents, and students. He is truly an asset to the school system, and the board members who so eagerly wanted him out have only served a year! Wow! And what educational background does any of them have? None? Mr. Wilson came into the school system as Director of Schools with the majority of the schools on the list or targeted. Now, for the last 3 years, every school in the district has made AYP! But I guess when personal vindettas are the objective, rather than the remarkable change he has brought about, then this is the end result! Such a shame! Such a shame that a man's fate lies in the hands of nine people! And I'm just going to put it out there...it amazes me how all the whites (the majority) voted na, and the blacks voted ya...food for thought! Undercover segregation and discrimination!
Race has nothing to do with whether your job is being performed correctly. He must have covered you when you weren't doing your job. I am so sick of hearing a "race issue". It wasn't a race issue when a principal got arrested. Although, that is something else that Wilson let go by. She should have been suspended.

Give it time......It's coming.....The board members have had enough, and so have parents. Think of the future of your children, the safety of your children.

I didn't know they had board members or even Fayette County that close to the abolishment of slavery. GET OVER THE RACE THING!!!!!! This is the majority of the problem here. Who cares about the abolishment of salvery, Our great, great, great, great ancestors probably had nothing to do with this crap. These kids now and adults now who were kids were brought up to believe that there is a race problem. The only problem I have seen is the problem with the way the school system is ran and there is no kind of respect for teachers or students for each other. That is a family responsibility and the parents should be teaching this kind of stuff at home!

There has been a growing racial problem with the board members and citizen of Fayette County since the abolishment of slavery and it has gotten worse since we elected our first black superintendent of a majority black school system .Also you need to investigate the make up of a school board this past year that ousted the majority of our black school board members in order for them to get rid of our black superintendent. I think that the white board members need to be investigated and ousted because of the secret meeting held behind the black members back and the criminal background of some of its members.

I can't say much since I am a teacher, but I must correct one point. Mr. Wilson is not the first black superintendent. We had a wonderful superintendent a few years ago, Warner Dickerson, who was making great strides in our system. We later had an interim superintendent, Aubrey Bond, who was also excellent. Mr. Wilson followed Mr. Bond.

As a student in the Fayette County School system I feel that this whole situation is crazy...The one thing that bothers me about the whole situation is the timing of it all. Why cause such an uproar in the county not even a week before testing starts? I feel like the board members (wether white or black) did not have the best interest of the students at heart. Of course many people say "lets not make this about race" but it is sort of hard when you look at the numbers. Please don't take what I am saying the wrong way. If Myles Wilson did do wrong then he deserves what he got. As a student I simply want to see the proof and have questions answered. Only time will tell if the board made the right decision, but in the meantime can I please know exacly WHY this decision was made. Many accusations have been brought against Mr. Wilson, but where is the proof? I feel that Mr.Wilson along with the principals of each junior high and elementary school have all done great jobs as it relates to raising the scores of the schools. Of course I do not know everything and I can't see behind closed doors, which is why I simply want light to be shed on the situation and I will be satisfied.

The students really shouldn't be affected by all of this. I know the high school principal called an assembly about it, but that really shouldn't have happened (in my opinion). Don't worry about it - study for your tests!:) But...I love that you want to know more - you will be a great future voter! I know that the board members would probably love to hear from you. You should contact them and ask why they voted they way they did. You can find all contact info on the Fayette County mayor's website (just type in Fayette County TN and the first site listed should be the right one). Good for you wanting to know the truth and investigate, but please...study for those tests!

Just curious - did they retire or leave for another school system? We really need some good candidates for this board to choose from!

Racial discrimination is treating people differently through a process of social division into categories not necessarily related to races. Racial segregation policies may officialize it, but it is also often exerted without being legalized. Researchers, including Dean Karlan and Marianne Bertrand, at the MIT and the University of Chicago found in a 2003 study that there was widespread discrimination in the workplace against job applicants whose names were merely perceived as "sounding black". These applicants were 50% less likely than candidates perceived as having "white-sounding names" to receive callbacks for interviews. In contrast, institutions and courts have upheld discrimination against whites when it is done to promote a diverse work or educational environment, even when it was shown to be to the detriment of qualified applicants. The researchers view these results as strong evidence of unconscious biases rooted in the United States' long history of discrimination.

Since the President of the United States is not qualified, who is? Let's get real. President Clinton left the country with a surplus (fact); after 8 years of the previous administration, the country faced a recession(fact). Who was really qualified? Our country is in serious trouble and therefore there is little room for pettiness and racial remarks. Isn't it strange that the American people (regardless of race, creed or color) have supported over 43 presidents with respect for the position and what it stands for? If America does not move from issues such as the ones so blatantly pointed out below in this comment, there will be no America for our children, and grandchildren. We must gain a sense of respect for our political leaders and the offices they hold. As an American citizen, we can disagree without being disagreeable.

Can any article on this online paper ever bring forth any meaningful dialog other than race? How can you possibly bring race into this? It is that same mindset that helped keep the corrupt former Memphis mayor in office so long - Protect Willie and he'll watch out for his cronies. When anyone tries to clean up corruption or eliminate the bad eggs, it's because of race? Was it a racial plot against Tiger Woods too by "the man" to bring him down? Are all the reports against the COGIC child molesters a plot by the KKK? If you continue to spew lies and hatred, you will reap the harvest of racial divide. You cannot allow people to under perform in positions they are not qualified to hold.
As far as qualifications to hold the position of the board member, doesn't the public decide that in the election? Couldn't the same be said about the American citizens who elected a president without qualifications? People are tired of the same old excuses and corruption. They elect people with a new platform to move away from that corruption.
I have no idea if what was reported against this man is true or not but I certainly believe the board has access to ten times the confidential information as the general public - that is their role. If you have a problem with the board, work to replace them. Everything else is just smoke and mirrors. Raise your expectations!

Dr. Dickerson was asked to leave when he made a personal purchase with his county gas card. He said he intended to repay the money. If there was more to the story, I'm not aware of it. This was unfortunate because he really brought the school system together. In fact, I hate to bring that fact back to the surface. Mr. Bond was only interim, so he lost the position to Mr. Wilson when the board made their choice. We definitely need good candidates. I personally feel the best choice would be someone who is familiar with our county. Day to day, we common people get along great! Race rarely plays a part in the choices we make or the friendships we enjoy. Usually, the trouble comes from outside when someone wants to come in and "fix" our county!

Most of the people he gave jobs to were his family members or close friends. Most of those are incompetent also. We need a change in a massive way.

The board has to announce special, called meetings and they are open to the public. The regular board meetings are also open to the public. Do you attend them?
