Open up some places where they can stay cool, as far as the power staying on, I pay my power bill they should to, i don't care how hot or cold it gets. And is this really something a mayor should be involved in?

Yes I think this is something a mayor should be involved in I think if its hot out side no one should be with out power and for you to say that you don't care how hot or cold it gets shows that you have no hart. What happens if that was your mother with out power. Ummm bet you would not say that then would you. I hope you think before you speak next time. Time will tell

I think an age appropriate deal would work. If you are 65 or older and on a fixed income then yes help should be available. If you're legally disabled then yes assistance should be available.

If you're any younger with or without kids living in the home then go get a job!

If it were my mother and she couldn't work I'd work extra to make sure she had air. Family should take care of family. The government is not obligated to pay peoples utility bills.

What did people do before air conditioning? I remember when I went to school there was no air conditioning. We had a ceiling fan at home. That was the norm in Memphis. And now it's like people consider it a right. I say stop spending your money on crack and pay your bills.

One issue is MLG&W has gotten away from being a non-profit. Providing power at an affordable rate. To being a Bank for special interests group.

They could start rolling the revenue back into reducing the day to day operational cost. This could reduce the rates they charge, so all could afford. Rather then jack the rates up to get people to conserve.

They like to tell us how much it cost rather then looks at ways to reduce the cost.

Oh yeah they say look at what everyone else is charging. Same thing as saying well he robbed the bank first.

My mother would have power since its my job to see to it she did, its not government job to take care of your mother, or anyone else in you family, you have a welfare state of mind, you do not know who the government is in this country, I for one as being the government do not want to pay for your power, if you use it you pay. Go pick up you mama and bring her to your house and keep her cool.

I think the MLGW does a fine job in winter and fall but, they help the low income and elderly and disable people but thier are citizens in Memphis who work every needs help to. There is citizen who pay checks is little to nothing and has to struugle hard to get there light bills paid. MLGW needs to set up some type of program where these people like myslef can pay acertain amount of their bills am month. Not just leave a forty nine dollars balance. They let you pay a certain amount but you have just a little time to come up with the rest of that bill.

If MLGW would work with people in catching up or paying back charges there would be less people in danger. However, MLGW has little fexibility. It might be easier if MLGW were privitized because their attitude is callous and uncaring when one truly has temporarily lost their ability to pay. In winter when charges were high or they had employment problems it was easy to get behind but MLGW offer little in work out plans, electing instead to cut utilities. MLGW loses in the end because people are forced to move when they would prefer to work out a plan. Sad!

Sure you pay your bill but what if you lost your job. How long would it take before you would walk in those shoes?

Those on fixed or limited incomes have a hard time paying high bills generated in winter that were discontinued or rolled over into spring and summer. Perhaps MLGW has reasonable rates on electricity but with add ons and all services rolled into one bill, the results are high bills with little opportunity to spread charges and payments over a month as in communities where charges are in separate billing. MLG&W is just not helpful in working out payments. Not asking for charity just reasonable workouts!

Why do people act like air conditioning is a basic need? I remember back when my grandma was living, she didnt have an AC, she ran the ATTIC FAN and we didnt complain, we simply dealt with it. Nowadays, folks cant deal with anything, life, arguments, disagreements, nothing.
SICK OF IT!
MLGW is doing what they need to do, offering you a service!
The people who keep saying MLGW is not good with working out payments must be the people who dont keep up with their agreements. I know I have made several arrangements and they keep my lights on, it is when you dont communicate with them that you may find them cutoff!

the fact that canadian geese are changing thier flight patterns during winter migration has no bearing to the overall net profit margains at intel corp. so i say yes on this issue , i would prefer the honey nut cheerios as opposed to watching old lone ranger reruns !

If your attic fan works without electricity, let me know what kind it is. Seriously, most of these people lost their power as a result of trying to stay warm in January-February when they were on fixed incomes or lost their jobs. The bills for power went so high that people in poor situations got behind then. You and people like you just don't get it do you? You think everyone is a deadbeat. Trust me, you just don't have a clue!

Incidentally Spivey-RDoug, et al:
If you can leave your windows or doors open in this God-forsaken city in order to get a little outside air, you must live somewhere in a gated community because the rest of us out here don't dare do that! Finding old dead ladies locked up in their houses appeal to you, does it?
