I AM CEARIC BARNES WIFE. I FEEL LIKE MY HUSBAND WAS GOING TO GET SOME TIME...... TRUE, BUT I DON'T THINK MY HUSBAND SHOULD HAVE GOT THE TIME THAT HE GOT. I DON'T THINK HE DESERVES A LIFE SENTENCE WHEN HE WASN'T THE SHOOTER. I REALLY BELIEVE HE WAS JUST AT THE WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME. THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T KNOW HIM,(YOU CAN'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER) MY HUSBAND WAS PUT IN A LIFE OR DEATH SITUATION. THE SHOOTER TOLD HIM EITHER DO WHAT I SAY OR I'M GOING TO KILL YOU TOO? WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE? MY HUSBAND AND MARVIN WAS WHAT I WOULD CONSIDER BEST FRIENDS/ COUSINS. CEARIC LOVED MARVIN AND MARVIN LOVED CEARIC JUST AS MUCH. TIL THIS DAY HE SIT AND WISHES IT WAS SOMETHING HE COULD HAVE DONE TO SAVE MARVIN.......HE LOVED MARVIN. THEY HUNG AROUND EACH OTHER ALL THE TIME. I WAS FRIENDS WITH THEM BOTH AND MOST OF THE TIME WHERE EVER YOU WOULD SEE ONE YOU WOULD SEE THE OTHER. I JUST WISH THEY WOULD REALLY SIT DOWN AND LOOK AT ALL THE FACTS AND PUT THEMSELVES IN HIS POSITION AND MAKE A DECISION, BECAUSE MY HUSBAND CLEARLY DOES NOT DESERVE TO SPEND HIS LIFE IN JAIL WHEN HE DID NOT SHOOT MARVIN. I'M NOT SAYING THIS BECAUSE THAT'S MY HUSBAND AND I LOVE HIM, BUT BECAUSE HE DOES NOT DESERVE A LIFE SENTENCE.

I am Marvin's first cousin, there is never a day that goes by that our family doesn't continuously mourn the lost of our loved one. There's nothing that u or Cearic, or anyone else can say to justify his or Jerrard's actions. Our family really suffered two lost, first Marvin then Cearic. I love both of my cousins Cearic and Marvin, but what is wrong is wrong. Life as my family know it will never be the same, all because of stupidity. I forgive him, and I know my aunt and uncle and family has too. Atleast Cearic is still breathing and alive, u can comunicate with him and see him!! My Family will never get to see Marvin's smile and hear his laughter again all over something stupid!!

I honestly hate that your husband has a life sentence but put yourself in my best friend and her family's shoes how would you feel? If the tables had turned and it was your husband who was killed can you honestly say you would be happy if one of their wives said she doesn't think her husband deserves life in prison after taking someone else's life. He might have not pulled the trigger but being apart of a situation like this is bad either way you look at it. How do you think his mother or his sister feels everytime they walk past his room
knowing he will never sleep there again. Although your husband maybe in a place where you don't want him to be at least you can still hear his voice and see his face.

The hold world knows Cearic ain't kill Marvin.... this hold situation cause of who reverend durr is in the community..... Marvin was not a saint... nor Cearic or Jarrod... Just think Cearic was 80 yards away and walking away..... Jarrod said he shot Marvin by mistake... tell me again why Cearic locked up?? If this ain't a injustice then what is...I asked our friends and our community if they believe Cearic was guilty...... they all said no!!!!!!!! I asked if they would be afraid of him...... they all said no!!!!!!! This says alot about Mississippi and the power of a reputation.... justice don't reside in this state!!!!!!! But reputation do!!!! This is said...

It sounds to me the guy was wrong for burning the body but I feel like his so called friend that shot Marvin durr should be charged only with murder when ur young u make bad choices the guy Jarrard he killed Marvin before the body was even dead there for that's murder I feel like the guy cearic should had spent time behind bars but not for life he burned a dead body sounds to me he might had been under pressure as I say we are alone in this world both of theses guys were wrong but the trigger man should riot in prison but for burning a body that's dead already I feel like at least 15yrs is the most time to receive I know the guy Marvin's family an friend were hurt an its not right to take another life but as I had said if Jarrard shot the man alone then he should be the only person charged with murder Cearic he needs to realize burning somebody's body he shouldn't had done but he could change his life around he should had been giving a second chance nobody knows just like I don't but he didn't take this guys life i pray for everyone

Why would this guy Cearic get life if he didn't take a life Mississippi give the man a second chance I believe in a man changing I feel like he has paid for his mistake of burning the guys body while the body was already dead I understand this guy Marvin family is hurt but as t.d Jakes said Forgive so u can be forgiven he did wrong burning the mans body but jarrard did the killing so he should of had his life taken more like the (electric chair) but Cearic should do time but not life Mississippi free this young man he's done wrong but he has done enough time I believe this guy has changed free Mr Barnes give him counseling with some help but the guy is a man now set this man free I'm out peace god bless

I can honestly say without doubt if the two were released they would never commit another crime!!! They were young, a mistake was made but now in there adulthood they have matured into two positive, ambitious, adults who deserve another chance, FREE MY PEOPLE!!!!!

People and their way of thinking burns my soul. This was my moms first cousin and her baby cousin at that.. And as young as I was I remember her being so tore up behind this. This crime was very terrible . But some of you need to open your eyes and realize wrong is wrong . No matter when you commit it or the age .@ 17 & 18 you know what the hell is right and what the hell is wrong . Whether our OTHER COUSIN shot him or not .. He still helped in the situation.. He stood by and watched it happen . And helped Burn the car . If they were really sorry about the situation they would've just turned themselves in not TRY TO HIDE IT by burning the vehicle . You take a life and don't think your deserve life in prison? That's pure ignorance . Just chill with your ridiculous comments and think of how this still affects our family almost 14 years later .

Wow....those who judge shall be frowned upon....

Reading these comments are slightly painful and in-justice,personally people change and they shouldn't be frowned upon because of there past its a sad situation for everyone they all lost there life due to one person ignorant mistake. I BELIEVE IN JUSTICE but there is a such thing as rail rode justice, if Mr. Barnes did not pull the trigger then why should he have to spend the rest of his life in prison it just dont make sense, by law Mr. Durr was deceased when Mr. Barnes was put in a life or death situation that forced him to be in place he wasnt willing to be, it clearly states that Mr.Barnes was 80 yards away(240 feet)away when Mr.Cook pulled the trigger how does that make a murder??? I believe he deserves a second chance he has spent over 17 years of his life in prison for being forced to do something he had no choice in except too loose his life ....ask your self this if it was you what would you had of done and dont lie through your teeth and say you would had took a bullet cause nobody wants to die until good picks your rose so have some heart and let this man out

Due to the actions on the behalf of another and serving time for a crime that he did not commit Barnes should be granted his freedom. Not only for injustice that has been brought against him in court order but for the court system failing to give him a fair trial to begin  with and failing to grant him improper proper and just information for a fair trial. Barnes should not only be granted release for this but has served half the time already for a mistake that he did not make.

The Whole situation is sad across the board.
The hardest thing for Christians to do is to forgive those who have trespass against us..
In my opinion both gentlemen lost their lives due to one person's decision.. Had Jarrard not fired the gun.. there wouldn't be a story.. or a case to appeal..
I feel like it should be appealed because at that time Cearic was young mentally..
Because let's be honest just because we're 18 doesn't mean we're as grown as we or the government think we are.
And you may say "he's old enough know right from wrong " that's correct, but keep in mind Cearic didn't pull the trigger..
What 18 year old knows their rights except for what they learn on TV.. "you have the right to remain silent" so you ask any 18 year old kid in the streets do they know all of their rights.. and I promise they don't.
Cearic didn't know his rights and being so young with his first big case he's trusting his lawyer to guide him the right way.
In my opinion I feel enough time has passed for him to be able to mentally represent his case properly.. let's allow him to speak and we ACTUALLY listen to his side of story..
If he can not properly plea his case after 15 years of preparation then that's sad.
Either way I'm praying for everyone to gain some peace and forgiveness in this situation.

I donít think Cearic Barnes deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison when we all know he didnít kill anyone. You have people who have killed someone in cold blood and do time and the system releases them. He deserves a second chance because I know one thing and that was he was afraid and confused and he had no intentions on anyone dying that night. I also know that both families are hurting and we should let God wrap his arms around both families. Please give Cearic Barnes a second chance.

Cearic Barnes was at the wrong place at the wrong time, both shouldn't of been there, should of been at home in bed during that terrible night, but he was also threatened fearing for his life, I can only imagine how he was feeling, yes at times we all make bad choices in life that consequences will indeed follow, it was so wrong all around but i feel that he should be given a second chance at life his first offense , I know of people who done the actual crime themselves gotten a much lesser sentence, n I feel like he have served enough time, I'm praying for the comfort n peace n strength for the families involved, our Lord God can touch hearts as well as heal hearts and to forgive, he has the final say in all situations, Lord God I asked that u will work out this situation for the good n that forgiveness will be given in your precious name Amen, I feel that Cearic has indeed learned from his actions I knew he would serve some time but a life sentence I can't see that knowing that he was not the shooter, again I ask the people of Mississippi that they will find it in their hearts to grant cearic barnes a second chance at life, thank you
