I grew up with Tyler. He is absolutely harmless and I am horrified that the news has stamped him like they have. I can't believe that a man like this was sitting in jail with his picture posted all over the news. Never in my wildest dreams did I see this coming for this good young man. His dream was to teach music, that was his love. That is all he ever wanted and it is what he worked so hard for. And even though he did make this mistake, I want him to know that his friends still care about him and we are here. Tyler has a wonderful family and I want to send my prayers out to them as the rest of the our judgmental society should. People make mistakes everyday and unfortunately his was inexcusable, but I know in my heart that he does not deserve the so-called "rapist" or "sex offender" stamp. My prayers and thoughts go out to both families who have been humiliated by society and our news.
this is so true. the media has made him out to be a terrible person, when in fact he isn't! he's just your typical nice, smart, funny guy! i feel bad for him...although he did make a terrible mistake, 17 and 22 isn't a HUGE age difference. i am 110% sure he didn't force her into doing anything; therefore, he should not be stuck with that "sex offender" label his entire life... it was a choice that SHE made too. they both messed up. i hope and pray this doesn't mess up his life....he really is a nice guy.

I think it is a shame that the first article said he was "caught having sex" with her, and the second article says he was seen getting out of the car with her. The article painted the situation possibly worse than it really was.

<quoted text> One young girl made the 'mistake' of leaving her two young children home alone. maybe she shouldn't be charged either.
i agree with this. This is what happens when you break the law, you get fined/charged/jailed, etc. It's called the justice system..
I dont think the guy is a child molester, but before you take a job where you will regularly be around young girls that are considered your students, you should make sure you have the self control to resist temptation.
And some of you need to get over trying to get the girl arrested and humiliated too. She's not the one sleeping with a minor, he is... HAhahahaha Besides, what good would it do to put her on the news! THIS is the witch in this situation! Now we all know what she looks like!! I'm sure everyone at this school knows which girl did this and so trust me people, the girl's life is definitely a big embarrassing teenage nightmare right now.. So all you people who want this girl to be humiliated like he is, you guys can rest easy tonight because everyone she knows knows about this now so let's trust that she's getting hers too!! Ugh all those looks walking down the hallway?!! This is straight out of Degrassi, I swear!! Hope she's not pregnant too!!

though I agree she shouldn't have been messing around with a teacher, what exactly do you think she should be charged with, she has committed absolutely no crime. The only reason his is a crime is bc he violated the oath he took as a teacher, and regardless of how nice of a guy he is, he knew what was at stake when he put himself in that position.
Teachers don't take an oath, moron.

He could have just given the girl a ride to or from school. You don't know. In this country all people charged are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This guy is already being strung up by the Man in the Street, thanks to the local news. EVEN IF HE DID have a relationship with the girl, she's 17 and he's 22 - that doesn't neccesarily make him a "dirty old man" if she was willing. Folks are making too big a deal about this, in my humble opinion.
It's the fact that he was her TEACHER. The age thing is completely legal in Mississippi the consent age is 16 it's just the fact that he was her teacher. It was morally wrong, and against the last. If you have responsibility or any position over someone under 18 it's illegal to do anything like that with them.

From the previous posts here, she 'just turned' 18. Personally, I don't think it really matters. HE was the teacher. HE should have known better. It was HIS responsibility to say no.

I wonder how many students are having sexual relations with their teachers/professors on a daily basis?

The only thing about this incident is they got caught. If they hadn't, no one would know or care!

That is not true at all! Her parents did NOT know that she was seeing him. This is fact. A very well kept secret that only those who found them at school early before the bell rang knew. This is fact. WHERE are you getting your info from former teacher????
Where is yours from?

She just turned 17 in JULY! Its really not even about the age. He was a teacher. Her teacher. Teachers are not supposed to do that with their students, regardless of age. Neither should a youth pastor, a therapist.... Please people understand the real issue here.

It makes me angry to know that people are calling him all of these things when they don't know him as personally as I do. He used to hangout at my house all the time in college and he is a great guy and a great teacher. He does not deserve jail time as my band director did for having sex and getting his 14 year old band student pregnant when he was 41. Now THAT is sexual battery! 22 and 17? heck no! I wish the news would stop trying to get good ratings by plastering Tyler's photo across the screen when last time I checked everyone is innocent until proven guilty! Parents, think back to when you were 22 and when you were 17. How many of you had relationships similar? True, as a teacher, he should not have made this mistake, but he shouldn't sit behind bars for the rest of his life. Let him at least finish his masters so he can teach college level! Get off of his back people!

Wow! I wonder would you all feel the same if it was a person no one really care for or if it was your child. There are enough women his age and older that have the same organs that are available and looking for a good man. Let children be children. Since age isn't or is a big factor for many- Hey! Lets make it law that anyone under 25 can't teach. When teens throw themselves at men, the men should pull them aside and talk to them and explain how they have their entire lives before them. These "Christians" need to tell them to honor their body and respect themselves. Good or not, liked or not, abide by the law!

Okay Parent ~ So you have two girls and two boys huh? Teacher crushes are normal, lots of kids have 'em, you know, the hot teacher, etc..., well what one of your kids develops a crush on a certain teacher, do you think it will be okay if that teacher takes advantage of that and pursues a sexual relationship with them . I for one want to know that the teachers that are in place in my childs school can take the temptation of crushes and apply all that they learned the last couple of years in college regarding inappropriate relationships with students!!! Good grief people!!!
dont even start with the take advantage trash!! she would do a monkey if it jumped in front of her. she simply wanted it and wasnt gonna give up til she got it and he unfortunately gave in. She's back at school and quite proud of her actions it absolutely disgusts me. I love bigham and support him to death and i hope this case turns out for the better. i really wish she would be punished some way or maybe even her parents since they apparently knew about the relation all along.

This is a typical example of how the system will make a terrible situation seem ok because the suspect is white!! If the suspect is a black man, like Joey Johnson, then people scream rape!! This teacher is a predator just like all other sex offenders and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law!!
