I was at the Massapequa Fire Department celebration last eve. Just wondering why all the Fire department Volunteer members were all so drunk and drinking in public. They were embarrassing wearing hats on backwards ~ pulling their pants down to show cracks ~ did Massapequa turn Ghetto overnight?~ is this typical behavior from Massapequa Vollys?~ Is this how they act inside the Firehouse when we cannot see them?~ where was the supervision?

Average jerk; What if we had a full blown emergency? But it was too bad all we had were stumbling drunks from the Massapequa district walking the street with beers in parade uniforms. Hats on crooked, one kid was wearing his pants low like a brother from the hood would do.

Sorry but a paid professional Fire Department is needed on LI. Enough with the fake wanna-be FDNY vollys here on Long Island.

Dear madam. I would like you to know. Massapequa has the second highest calls fire wise in the county with 2500+ calls a year. I understand your concern however there were standby crews in a nearby fire house nearby to assist in any distress. Are you sure they were massapequa firefighters? Because I believed there were 20 other departments from long island at that parade.

they are public servants / volunteers. Like it or not, they should be held to a higher standard of conduct. I sure wouldn't want a drunken firefighter to come to my rescue. Where was the supervision?

I think wearing the Massapequa Fire department uniform and drinking was "inappropriate behavior" I could care less if they were wearing jeans and a tee shirt and drinking at the fair all weekend.

The fact the were in Uniform and drunk! I had no idea if they were on duty or off but it looked like they were on-call because they were wearing the Fire department Uniform.

well they did just march in a parade so i dont think they were able to change. and agreed, they are public servants but this is one of the the few nights there allowed to have fun. im sure their fire captain or whatever you call it advised them to remember they are in the public eye. im sure whoever was drinking to much was talked to. and i believe there supervisors were walking around with radios on that said massapequa fire department on them.

I live in Masapequa and took my kids to the fair. It was embarrassinng how druk you all were. It was not a family event past the rides. Glad they had the drunks roped off - how weird! It was like they knew what was gonna happen! lol.

So it was OK for Fire department personal to walk around stoned drunk, some could not open their eye they were so stoned and drunk at the fair. I only came for a visit and I noticed all the drunk Volunteer Firemen. Thats inappropriate behavior unacceptable and they need to be suspended for poor behavior.
the Massapequa Fire Department should be assamed!

This article is a few years old but perfect example of drunk Vollys.

Massapequa, NY — A firefighter in North Massapequa Fire department was arrested after activating the fire alarm at a local lounge while drunk in February at a supervisor’s birthday celebration, according to recently-released records.

Volunteer officer Peacock, 41, was arrested Saturday on a misdemeanor making false report charge following the early February incident at The Blue Parrot of Massapequa
5460 Merrick Rd, records show.

“I did something stupid, I’m very drunk and didn’t mean to cause trouble,” Sunser is quoted as saying in a NCPD. 7th pct police report.“We are here for my boss’s birthday, I’m sorry Mr Hanna".

Peacock, of Massapequa, told police he works in Massapequa volunteers for “their” fire department. He said he and some co-workers came to the lounge for a supervisor’s birthday celebration Mr Hanna. He said he “got really drunk and made a mistake.”

A phone message left Tuesday morning with the North Massapequa Fire Department wasn’t immediately returned.

Two N.Massapequa employees reportedly saw Peacock activate the fire alarm at the front door.

A man identified as Blue Parots owner told police he wished to pursue charges, noting the “malicious nature” of the incident and the lost revenue caused by the “disruption and evacuation.”

You people are bitching about the fire department meanwhile you all should be grateful because you cry about taxes now go ahead get a paid department and watch how high they go. And why don't you cry about the school district who is not doing a thing about the drug problem in massapequa schools.

You all should be ashamed for taking the time out of your lives to right these ridiculous things about VOLUNTEERS. They are taking time out of their lives to serve you without any paycheck. Step up or shut up. What do you do for your town? Nothing. God bless our local firefighters. If you don't want to see us celebrate don't come to our parties. We are better off without you snobs.

I always like the fact Fire District Volunteers say they "do it for free" while in fact they get a 25% reduction in property taxes, free college, retirement and a pension from the Fire districts, plus they all get a one week paid vacation for FREE?

Plus all the perks of using Fire equipment at home, use of Kitchens and over the top Halls and clubs in these Fire houses.

These over the top Fire houses have got to stop on Long island they are putting us in a financial crisis with too much equipment that’s never used and the over the top fire houses less then 1 mile from one another.

I am the wife and the mother of volunteers in the fire department. I am appalled at how many of you are degrading these men and women who dedicate so much time to their local fire department. I can attest to how many times my son and husband have gotten up in the middle of the night, during dinners and at holiday celebrations to go to the need of someone in our town that needed help. The volunteers in ALL DEPARTMENTS must go through rigorous training and classes to be a fireman, and or EMT. I see people refusing to pull to the side for flashing blue lights. I want to let you all know that no matter what - these dedicated men and women will be there should you ever need them- no matter what time of day it is. Just remember all of you that are dissing the volunteers- they are the ones running into the fire when you are running out.

We are not degrading them. They are and have and will continue to degrade themselves by using volunteerism as an excuse to be a bunch of embarassing drunks. Shame on you, "Mom"!

Honestly problem starts with Volunteers bragging and boating all the time how they offer their time for FREE with nothing in return! But in Fact they gets lots of perks and get well compensated so it is not longer a Volunteer job they do so lets be perfectly crystal clear!

"Volunteer" Fire Departments - not so volunteer get: Free College, Free Insurance, Free 30% to 35% reduction in property taxes, perks of Free hall rental at mosy over the top fire houses, and a Pension retirement plan hats is very generous I must say. They also go on a 1 week paid vacation and they are nice places like Cancun and Bermuda etc. So next time a Volunteer brags they do it for free thats BS

Calculate all the equipment they use thats tax payer owned, and the get the old equipment and benefits of member plow blocks and members homes for free and the use of SUV and Trucks offered to Capts and Asst Capts that they never pay for gas.
