"Governance of Bridges Academy will be by an independent board of educators and parents and community members."

What do you think the chances are that 1 or 2 WI BOE members will be 'selected' to be on Governance Board of Bridges Academy?

I just noticed a few Persian names associated with this new school and was curious if it's going to be a Muslim Madrassa.

Actually the Board is posted on the School's website and no one from the West Islip School Board is on the Board. The School has no religious affiliation. It is an Independent School.

Yes Terry they are. According to the Bridges Academy lease, our board of education is allowing Bridges Academy the use of the following WI assets: 162 student desks, 162 student chairs, 13 teacher desks, 13 teacher chairs, 10 kindergarten tables, 36 kindergarten chairs, 20 computer stations, 20 computer towers, 20 computer monitors, 20 computer keyboards, 20 computer tables and 20 computer chairs, all cafeteria tables and benches, all library bookcases and couches, all library tables and chairs, a mounted television in the library as well as a projector and whiteboard in the library AND OUR SMARTBOARDS. The exact number of smartboards was strategically left OUT of the lease as the smart boards were considered to be part of each classroom!!!! Lease specifically lists 12 classrooms (& many more rooms) so it's probable that at least 12 of our smartboards are being used by Bridges Academy if not more.
The lease is chock-full of rent free giveaways. And speaking of RENT FREE I'm sure few to none of WI's residents were told that according to their lease, Bridges is only required to pay WISD $135,000.00 in rent for the first year of their lease b/c according to the very, very, very generous lease, Bridges Academy gets Kirdahy TOTALLY RENT FREE for the months of June, July and August 2013!!! This folks is why our board of education didn't post the Bridges lease on the district's website BEFORE they voted on it like they SHOULD HAVE.
So when you read and hear the boe cry that it's NYS that's killing our school district you can remember our school district was already being strangled to death by the very people who are blaming NYS.

There are no smart boards left in kirdahy, the 20 computers are 10 years old and ready for the garbage heap, and the furniture is excess material that is not needed anywhere else in the district, the bridges is not opening until September and that is when the rent will begin. Oh and let's see.. NOOnE else was interested in leasing the building!! So 135 in the first year, with increases every year after that is a hell of a lot more than lets say $0. Oh, and if you want to see and approve contracts before they are voted on, go get yourself on the boe. It is really stupid of you to think that 18 thousand residents should have input in negotiating a lease contract.

The post above yours sounds correct. Why be so defensive? I never saw a lease sign outside of Kirdahy or Westbrook for that matter. If it's not be advertised how can you expect to generate interested parties? For $10 a square foot, I'm surprised you didn't have interested parties banging down the doors! Excess furniture, computers, smart boards most certainly can be needed by our district. They should have been removed, and stored. They could've been used to replace broken or worn out equipment as needed for the other elementary schools. If the Bridges academy has organized it's stuff inside our schools, they are using the schools. If they have filing cabinets and closets filled with their stuff, they are using our schools already. They have shown this school to the public during open house events, which means they are using our schools, it's rent time!
BTW, I think it should go without saying that Bridges will give residents of WI a reduced tuition rate for being tax payers in this district who through their taxes built Kirdahy into the school it is today.
By the time we pay the heat, the electric, the water, the maintenance, etc. for both Kirdahy and Westbrook what revenue will we have left over? I read that it costs 145,000. in heat and electric a year at Kirdahy.
I also hope that the SSCC will give the West Islip residents whose children attend a tuition reduction as well because the school is in the shape it's in by way of their already spent tax dollars, a good friend of mine said at the very least, that is what they should be doing.
The assets in Westbrook will be used too. That school is supposed to cost about 110,000. in utilities between heat and electric.

Clearly, it is you who are the ass. Bridges might be opening in September but they take posession of Kirdahy June 1, 2013. It says so in their lease and my copy of Bridges Academy lease beats your desperate attempt at damage control EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK (new rules, remember?) BRIDGES ACADEMY HAS POSESSION OF KIRDAHY FOR JUNE JULY AND AUGUST RENT FREE. Bring it up at the next boe meeting and watch the color drain from Gellar's face.
Yes, the boe gave Kirdahy away RENT FREE FOR 3 MONTHS and now have the nerve to say the taxpayers of WI have to cough up another 2 million!

It seems to me that Bridges can afford to kick in a hell of a lot more than a measly ten dollars a square foot. They get the entire building exclusively for the day time hours, don't they?
They are throwing a haughty taught fund raiser at the Southward Ho country club, the people on the board are well off and well educated. This is a not for profit private academy? They are using all of our stuff for and getting it all for NOTHING! Offer our tax payer STUFF to the community if they are going to give it away. There are plenty of residents who would be ever so grateful to accept a free 10 year old computer. Those couches in the library/ media room look comfortable, maybe a homeless shelter could have received a donation from our community. This school is not poverty stricken and should be paying for the items they are using and keeping until their damaged and no longer worth a dime.

If Bridges is not using the smartboards then where are they? If there was one in every classroom to start with, and now we have less classrooms because two schools closed, there has to be extra smartboards laying around. Where are they?

As for South Shore, what seems more logical - that within a few weeks of the partnershp dissolving the WI school all of a sudden decided to move locations and worked out a whole deal with the RE agent, or that while the partnership was still intact the WI school was looking for a change of location and worked out a deal over time, none of which there is any record of because the BOE was receiving oral reports only from the RE agent (contrary to contract obligation), and after a good deal was reached the partnership was dissolved and a few weeks time passed before announcing the deal in order to avoid the appearance of impropriety (too little too late)

Don't be so sure that the South Shore partnership is dissolved because someone (who knows "everyone") showed papers at a pta council meeting and a pta presidents meeting. Stay tuned for the "May Sweeps"~!

Well now what would MOLLY HAYS have to say if she knew that while she's trying to get students to enroll in Bridges Academy you're shooting your mouth off that Bridges Academy is charging parents tuition to attend a private school that's using 10 year old computers that are ready for the garbage heap and leftover excessed desks and furniture. We all know that's not true as Kirdahy parents and teachers would have objected to every other elementary school receiving brand new computers EXCEPT their school. Yes, ALL of the es computers are only a couple of years old(if that). As far as no one else wanting to rent Kirdahy, you would need to ask JAMIE WINKLER how she thought she could rent Kirdahy to anyone other than her own buds WHEN SHE DIDN'T ADVERTISE THE SPACE FOR RENT! new rules baby

I just went onto Bridgesacadamy.org
Those computers look damn new to me! All of the furniture is the same new furniture that was in Kirdahy when the boe closed the school. Nothing was ready for the garbage heap because it's new. Stop lying already. I never saw any kind of advertising for Kirdahy anywhere so don't post a load of crap that no one else wanted the building. Bridges is not moving into Kirdahy in September because the director is telling parents they're moving the school and setting everything up during the summer in order to be ready for the students the first week of September.
You said it yourself--Bridges starts paying rent in September, so they are getting months in Kirdahy rent-free.

What's with all of months of free rent Gellar and Larosa gave to Bridges Academy & South Shore Preschool <the preschool with the same name as the preschool Larosa owns> It shows Gellar and Larosa don't care the district is 2 million short as long as their buds are taken care of $. Let the taxpayers pickup the 2 million slack.

All you need to do is take the survey on the district website and fill in the blanks. It's as easy as one two three!
