"An 18-year-old female pedestrian was fatally struck by a car in Oyster Bay Cove as she tried to cross Route 25A on Saturday night, the Nassau County police said.
Around 11:12 p.m., a motorist driving a 2003 Toyota Avalon east along Route 25A hit the victim, Dawn Leslie, as she attempted to walk northbound across the roadway, police said.
<snip>
The driver, whom police did not name, tested negative on a field sobriety test administered at the scene, police said. No charges have been filed against the driver, police said.
Detectives are investigating the incident, police said."

I missed it, what did the police say? I'm sure the editorial staff at newspeakday is planning to submit this one to the pulitzer committee, right after their 5th grade moving up ceremony.

I believe the Pulitzer will be awarded for Newsrag's renaming Route 25A "Oyster Bay Cove Road"?

Words are powerful tools, and must be closely scrutinized when they are in the hands of liberals.

A street? 25 A is NOT a 'street'...that's like saying the LIE is 'just a road' to here and there.

I am her cousin, and there will be no more shit talking about her. I do not know the whole story yet, but lets be grown ups here. I am sure she did look both ways before she crossed, she was not 5 nor a child. She was graduating High School on Wednesday the 25th.

I agree with Cracker - who wrote this article at Newsday and what is wrong with them? Oyster Bay Cove Road? Maybe a summer intern from out of state wrote it. Much more interesting to know why this poor girl was crossing that main road at that time of night. Very sad, very strange........with her whole life ahead of her. Hits home hard.

I drive on 25A everyday. It's a VERY dangerous roadway.
And BTW- Since you think that 25A is NOT a street; would you cross 25A without looking both ways????

Not for nothing, a family lost someone who they prob loved. The family probably had so much to look forward to this week and now their lives are crushed. Don't you people have ANYTHING better to do that stir $hit on a message board? how would you feel if it happened to your daughter, sister, cousin?

i was not a friend of dawn but she was in one of my classes and she was no where near dumb, she was very smart and it was a honest mistake , 25A is right by my house and the road is very dark, i happen to be right around there around 12:30am and i saw all the police tape, it was serious so all of you should stop blaming her, its not like she had a choice.

Who blamed her? I just scanned all the posts and didn't find any I would call blame. That said, the postmortem tox screen will tell all.

From out of state? Off planet, more likely. I think they lost their regular proofreading staff in the recent Bangladesh disaster.

Do you agree with me when I say that 25A is a VERY dangerous roadway????
The speed limit is 55mph and people drive 70-80 on 25A.
