A few of the LIRR stations but MANY OF THE LIRR TRAIN CARS are absolute GARBAGE CANS. The LIRR is a scandal of filth.

Conductors do not maintain order and there apparently are no rules on throwing trash around.

A shame for one of the wealthiest areas on the globe. LIRR cannot compete with Bangladesh R.R. Yikes.

I'd be more concerned about the falling concrete on the Hicksville platform. Forest Hills comes in a close second with exposed concrete especially on the east side.

Gee Mr. Plotz, how do you think the station got like that? Could it be the lazy pigs and slobs like yourself that canít get your garbage into the pails? Although you complain about the filth, you keep going back. If youíre not ever littering at the station, go to another one that is clean enough for you or drive to work.

Too bad that it takes letters to the editor and watchdog groups to get these guys to do what they are supposed to be doing.

In a normal business, the excuse "Oh, I guess it got away from us." would be reason for the job to permanently get away from the person saying it.

There also are unsafe rusty shards of metal waiting to spear unsuspecting commuters on the platform at Hicksville, as I learned the hard way when a jacket was permanently ripped several years ago.

I was on the train last Saturday-waiting on the platform; pidgeons, filthy pidgeons. Usually I see bees and wasps and flies hanging around garbage cans, but then I looked around at the people waiting with me.
Perhaps pidgeons are 'what's for dinner'?

You're being charged extra for the birds, the bees (birds and bees), the falling concrete, the gross people hanging out and now parking at Target for lack of space. Some are making a fortune from your mis-fortune. Write your local Congressman-send photos. Forget the nasties with their cell phones up their butt-they are practically doin' it ...the little girls and the not so little boys-hands all over each other. Wonderful to watch-semi porn on the LIRR-and it's not even fun ! WHO'S YOUR BABY MAMA?

Thankfully, I have not had to ride the LIRR as a commuter for the last eight years. But when I did, the Hicksville station was always pretty gross. The shelters on the platforms, for example, always smelled strongly of urine.

I knew it!!!!!

I knew one of you LIRR clowns was going to blame this on someone or something else!!!

LMFAO!!!! ROFL!!!

Ha-ha-haaaaa!!!!

I just KNEW this!!!!

Why maintain your work place? Why bother to clean up the dead pigeons and other debris even though you get PAID to do it??!!

"Drive to work if you don't like it!"

Priceless!!!! Freaking PRICELESS!!!

The LIRR - who collect taxpayer subsidies even if ridership went down - tells commuters to go screw if they don't like the AWFUL job they do!!!

Mister, I just KNEW one of you morons was going to post something like this!

Why work for the money you get paid when you can pass the buck?! Bravo!

LMFAO!!! What makes you think that they're REALLY going to do something about this?!

Filth, pigeon sh1t, lateness, breakdowns, no refunds for bad service!!!! Ha-ha-ha-ha!

It's the LIRR!!! They don't care! They don't HAVE to care!

I love Long Island because the people there have got a great sense of humor.

Keep it up folks. This makes for great reading.

I think the pidgeons are cheap labor for the LIRR. Management doesnt have to give shyte towards the commuters - just let the pidgeons do it for them at little or no cost.

Hicksville LIRR station and Jamaica LIRR station have been filthy for years. That includes the streets below, and all the low lifes walking around. Don't tell me it was like this before the demographics changed. Maybe there should be an article in Smithsonian or National Geographic magazines to introduce the new third world nation, Long Island.

No enforcement from the ticket conductors, that is the first line of enforcement. For the mere fact that almost half of the ticket conductors are female; I can imagine a 4'8" female ticket conductor telling a 6'2" drunk to put his feet down or pick his filth,(Thank you Affirmative Action/Title IX).

The LIRR does not give a damn what you think, they will dress it up for a few months then go back to same old, same old nonsense.

They spend millions of dollars dressing up the Hicksville Station ticket area, tens of thousands of dollars to install televisions that you can not see or hear, but left the rest of the place in shambles, good job MTA.

Thanks to most of you being fat, lazy and apathetic, you have allowed the scum in Washington to turn our country into a third world turd hole. So this train station is only fitting for your new station in life. Look around you at the curry joints and sari boutiques - where do you think you are? While you slept, Amerikwa became a turd world 'kuntry'. Now you complain. Too late. Kumar, Juan, S u ckee-F u ckee, and O bongo aren't going to leave peaceably.

I truly and sincerely feel sorry for all of you. I left LI in the late 90's after commuting for 15 years. It was awful then, 2 hrs each way. I now make a GREAT living, live 5 minutes from my office, my drive to work is shorter than many drives to the train station. LEAVE LI. For the sake of your kids. Raleigh, NC, Charleston , Richmond are in need of talented employees.

We pigeons do the same thing to Hicksville station that the LIRR does to the suckers that pay them.

Only difference is that you can shoot one of us if we annoy you.

That was me p1$$ing on commuters and laughing.

See, I get paid no matter what happens. I don't have to work for a living if I don't want to.

People who want to be eco-friendly by taking the train have no choice but to do as I say and pay me whether they want to or not.

Be thankful it was only urine. I'll $h 1t on you next time, raise ticket prices and what will you do about it? Walk? Drive?

I own you people. No kneel and kiss my hand.

I work in the old Chase building (100 DuffyAve) and we have the same problem. Droppings on our cars, feathers and the smell is awful. We have brought it to the attention of management and nothing has been done. Do we have any other options open to us. Any advise would be appreciated.

the problems at hicksville are found at many other LIRR stations.bay shore, babylon, lynbrook, rosedal e among many others.the rr does "cosemetic upgrades" every so often but fails to do routine maintenance. How hard is it to power wash the platforms, lock the doors, etc? but many people who work for the rr do the absolute minimum.in private industry they wouldnt last a week.

littering and trash is a big problem all over LI.theres not a road, street, parkway or public place that isnt filthy.i have seen people toss trash out their car windows numerous time.i thought there are anti-littering laws. guess those are working as well as the no cellphones while driving law.

the biggest problem is the mentality."gee ill litter whats the big deal someone will eventually pick it up".

i just returned from pennsylvania. littering there is a $500 fine plus they make you pick it up under the watchful eyes of the police.maybe thats the way it should be.

It is amazing that this pidgeon pest problem has suddenly seen the light of day. Perhaps because the TOB Garage is now a eyesore, many more people walk to the station from the east.

If the LIRR had found another way of running the cables under the elevated platforms rather than installing custom made pidgeon condominiums under the elevated platforms, this problem would not be as unmanageable as it is now.

Instead they created this problem and now will subcontract someone else to do a 1/2 a** job of cleaning it up.

Netting is not working ! How about some right angle aluminum plates to seal access to this area from these pests. There is a better way ! If the LIRR created this mess then let them come up with a solution.

I find it a luck day if I manage to walk to the station without being pooped on by one of these pests.

I dont mind the smell of urine emanating from under the stairwells, or the constant hazards while walking.

I especially like the Berlin Wall that NY State installed blocking the straight line site walk, at route 107 under the trestle. Now commuters push aside the plastic barricades to cross Route 107.

Kudos to Mr. Potz for doing something to improve the situation and to the neighborhood watchdog for following through. This area is a mess and neither the TOB ( Town of Oyster Bay ) or the LIRR care. Lets see how long it takes to build a new garage. Wait is it an election year this year ?? No,, sorry !

That will be the true test of how inept and out of touch; the LIRR Executives and the unresourceful elected officials; to witness how long it will take to demolish and construct a three story "parking lot"?
