It is an airport. It has been an airport for decades. If it is not continued as an airport, Long Islanders will pay the price for eternity, as LGA and JFK and even ISP become saturated.
Airports, like farms, are not capable of being recreated once they are gone, and their loss diminishes the quality of life for all concerned.
NOte that at least two of the four approaches to CCC are entirely over water or vacant land.
Good time to build the monorail down the center of the LIE as well.

Hey Long Island! You have a ski resort right there in Brookhaven. What, doesn't anybody go up the Powell Landfill Mountain anymore when it snows?

Hmm we definitely do not need more housing or low cost housing. Maybe it really should be kept as a great open space sanctuary!

A ski resort on the Island?
It's cold enough for skiing here about one month out of the year.
What the hell are these morons thinking?

<quoted text>are you kidding, they are not going to improve the tax situation one bit , in fact living in Wading river they are probably gonna jack em up again, and of course the traffic is gonna be horrific, so like if we are ever under attack or anything blows up at these places or goes terribly wrong i guess we are all just gonna....sit in traffic in our big "mommie" SUV's.
There's about a hundred or so more likely scenarios than any sort of attack out there as there is ZERO strategic value to hitting that area, but yes, the traffic will suck.

You're right. The perfect solution to the high taxes on Long Island is a Casino. LI residents would be all for it and would welcome the extra traffic if it meant $1,000 -$1,500 less in property taxes a year. The traffic sucks anyway so who cares. And there is so much "illegal" gambling going on, the government should take their piece of it and give the residents a break. We do not need a stupid mountain though. Of all the projects that can work out there, why a stupid fake skiing mountain? I don't get it.
It would not mean a thing to most LIers to have a casino there, as it would benefit only the scumbag crooks running it and/or your local Indian tribe.

What happened with the great carnival idea. The big amusement park in the sky.All these jerkoff ideas will never sell. What should happen is build a commercial jet port that would really stimulate the economy and highlight the need for the sound bridge then a new shoreham nuke plant. Will the last person to leave long island please shut off the lights....or it too late for that...

Why would you tear up a multi-million dollar runway. The only intelligent use for the Grumman property is what it was built for, an airport!

In Riverhead ...

The Tanger Mall got a YES !

The Wal-Mart Mega Store Got a YES !

The Home Depot Got a Yes !

Wald-Baums Got a YES !

The Car Dealers, fast Food Joints, 7-11, Target, Strip Malls, Gas Stations, Walgreens, Pizza Shops, Jiffy Lubes, K-Mart, BJ's, Firestone, Midas Muffler, Staples, Office Max, Toys-R-Us, Coin Laundry Emporium, multiple banks, eyesores, krap shops, bagel joints and crispy creams all got YES.

Southold stopped their one and only McDonalds from building the same-same tacky display Riverhead Town allowed requiring instead they have an actual lawn, a pleasingly architectural building, and NO DRIVE THRU WINDOW. Riverhead allows any and every greedy business to take a dump anywhere they want to erect one.

Just try an erect a Home Depot or a Wal-Mart in Southampton and see how fast they let you ! How about some low income housing developments, or townhouse retirement blocks.

Riverhead is the Whore of the developers, and the proof is everywhere.

The Grumman runways were never made for anything of any significant size or weight. The taxiways and aprons are made for fighters, not 737's, and there never was a terminal building. Grumman was a test facility, never an airport, and it never should be. Grumman was also built in the middle of the last century when the town was mostly truck farms growing potatoes and cauliflower. Now those farm acres are cookie cutter housing developments row upon row, and they are filled with people who didn't buy a home next to an airport.

It is an airport. If it does not remain an airport, it will be stupid and incredibly short sighted. Which does not bode well.
