Given a choice, I'd rather see the Riverhead Resorts' proposal come to life over RexCorp.

Either way, I'd be surprised if anything comes to fruition out there.

We need housing and apartments on Long Island. Until these are built it is not appropriate to waste land on frivilous project such as this proposed project. How stupid are public officials? They have allowed the current crisis in housing and now they are ignoring the problem they have allowed to fester for decades now.

yes we need housing on LI, but for somebody who works in the city, they are not looking to live all the way out in Riverhead.
Riverhead already has splish splash, and the atlantis aquarium, it would be nice to see it turn into a year round resort area.
maybe they should also think about building a casino there, something for the adults to do while their kids are in the parks.
it would mean lots of job opportunities for the local residents as well as tax reductions.
I say built it and they will come....(and yes i live on LI)

Maybe they should consider leaving everything alone. There are too many people right now on Long Island.
I could only imagine the further traffic snags this project would cause, Especially on 25 and 25a.
The grumman property and neighboring land is a sanctuary for wildlife. Animals deserve a chance to live also.
Screw the developers and let them help poor impoverished places with development like Sudan or Ghana..Long Island just can't handle more people.

I keep hearing that a casino would cause too much traffic blah, blah, blah...now a plan for an indoor ski resort is being proposed! Does anybody else see that that too would cause the traffic congestion everyone is bellyaching about?

IMO, a casino would create more jobs than an indoor ski resort and would be more successful.

I have no use for an indoor ski resort. Sounds like a dumb idea.

This is all pie-in-the-sky ... nothing will be built on that property in my lifetime, and perhaps my childrens'.

Infighting, bureuacracy, nimby'ism ... all will prevent anything from getting off teh drwawing board.

I'm happy taking a ride up to the mountains for skiing, hunter mountain isnt that far close enough for a day trip. Long Island is supposed to be beachy not snowy.

I'm with you 1000%...... Leave Long Island alone... Move these damn projects to the dump of New Jersey... Let LI be the beach community it was designed to be - not an overcrowded dump for manhattanites

The LIE is already dubbed the world's biggest parking lot. This will be even worse. And what if people want to get there by ferry? It's already a traffic nightmare getting to and from Greenport on a normal day. Let Calverton RIP.

The Riverhead Town Board would have to find a new use for this 'Pink Elephant' after it goes 'Belly-Up'!

The 'Anything For A Buck' Republican Back Room Dealing went out with Jimmy Stark when he was un-elected the last time. The Town of Riverhead has been the dumping ground of the east end for too long. These people wouldn't even try to propose such a thing in Southold or Southampton. My answer would be to tell this developer he can build it over the town landfill or not at all. That way we won't have to carry it far when starts to rust.

I do not ski so I may be wrong on this one...but I think those that ski love it for the sport of skiing on real snow in real cold weather on a real mountain.

Maybe those deperate enough for a skiing fix will take advantage of this ridiculous idea. Otherwise, I can't imagine any skiier coming to Long Island for a fake indoor ski mountain when they can have the real thing elsewhere.

ok this sounds great in theory but - WHERE ON EARTH are you gonna put all those cars? The L.I.E. has enough congestion already and its not getting any better. And forget affordable housing. Are lawmakers puposely trying to get everyone off LI and make it just one big extension theme park for the City?

I would like to be around in 500 years, watching scientists explore the remains of millions of basements, cement highways and artificial mounds, wondering what kind of STUPID&RETARDED society was this???

I have two words for this so called project that will only benefit the builder and the low life-do nothing politicians who pass it. It is "F$#KING RETARDED".

and while we're at it - isn't the land where they want to build all this directly across the street from Calverton National Cemetery? I have family buried there and i'll be damned if some developer will desecrate the sacredness of that cemetary and the peacefulness surrounding it for some over the top un necessarry indoor ski resort. When will people realize we've developed Long Island far too much as it is. I say if you're going to build anything, build a Casino. Like Word Up said, the revenue will help offset property taxes making it bearable to own a house again on Long Island, because I know the reason I left LI, like many others my age (mid to late 20's)and moved out of state is because property taxes are Ridiculous.

What a stupid idea! A thirty-five story building would be at least 400 feet which would make it one of the tallest structures on the island. I wouldn't want to live in its shadow. We don't need a Manhattan East.
