Cutting of pastor's role called 'vindictive'

Full story: Newsday

For 32 years, the Rev. Robert E. Mason celebrated a children's Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes in Massapequa Park that attracted a loyal following among some families at the ultraconservative parish.

Lisante popular at OLL? not really! They're dropping like flies! Lisante has to bus them in from all over DRVC. Folks are showing up mostly from St. Thomas the Apostle and a few other places... but now St. Thomas' attendance is low.

I think they have to alternate weekends! It's pretty funny... since collections are down at OLL.

The reason they dislike him at OLL is the same reason they liked him elsewhere! He MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD. Doesn't teach you much... but BOY do you feel good!

I think this modernpriest.blogspot.com guy is right... time to throw these guys out!

Perhaps we can get Murphy promoted to 'interreligous dialogue' or something and send him to Rome. That would be great... as long as he is no longer on OUR payroll!

Intelligent people do not have to compartmentalize various issues. People can be passionate about multiple issues at the same time. We cannot individually impact the economic crisis, the war in Iraq, etc., however, we can impact what goes on within our own church. I, personally, have donated thousands of dollars to this parish over the 20 years that I have been a faithful parishioner.... I, therefore, have every right to make noise when a new pastor comes into town and tramples over everything I hold dear... IN MY CHURCH! This is not political, it is spiritual. This pastor has dismissed too many of us and has lost our respect as a result. He hit the ground running, brought in a suspended priest (who he tried to pass off as a "nice guy"), failing to mention that his Bishop has been looking for him for 8 years, he brings in a guy who directed a blasphemous play about gay men being married by Catholic priest, he slaps the Latin Mass right in the worst, most inconvenient time slot (1:30 p.m. Sunday) and now cancels the beloved Children's Mass. This is not a bunch of petty parishioners whining about a few silly issues, this man has come into this church and basically torn it apart and turned it upside down and we're supposed to be happy. GO TO www.modernpriest.blogspot.com TO GET THE FACTS AND THEN YOU CAN CRITICIZE THE PEOPLE WHO ARE ONLY FIGHTING FOR THEIR RIGHT TO WORSHIP AND FOLLOW THE CATHOLIC CATECHISM RATHER THAN THE "JIM LISANTE CATECHISM"!

I had to be subjected to a Fr. Lisante sermon a few weekends ago when he blew into town for the obligatory one Mass a week.

His sermon was a mile wide and about an INCH deep... and I'm a teenager... so I guess that tells you something.

I guess my expectations were too high!

Seems like he is stuck in the 70's or something.

Why is that Lisante trying to get rid of Fr. Mason's children's mass? I remember going there once or twice when I was younger. Is he trying to get rid of something that's been in our parish for so long? It's like getting rid of the church or the chapel, which he might do in the spirit of his Liberal style. Doesn't Bishop Murphy remember that 400+ crowd of people who were in the auditorium in front of his panel requesting somebody who WOULDN'T do exactly what Lisante is doing? So yeah, instead, he sends us the politically correct Lisante (probably as a punishment for his McCain endorsement). There have been rumors that Lisante didn't even want to come here. If you look at it from his viewpoint, why leave a comfortable, affluent parish like St. Thomas the Apostle, where he had everything he wanted and needed, minus troublemakers, and go to an ultra-conservative parish where people obviously wanted someone like Father Mason?
For him, it's probably like being president of the United States for one term and then being demoted to the sheriff of Dodge City!
I

I happen to know personally that OLL is the LAST place Msgr. Lisante wants to be.

He won't be at Our Lady of Lourdes in Massapequa Park very long and it's not soon enough for him!

As much as there are people who don't want him there and don't appreciate him, he doesn't want to be there even more than that. He's counting the days....

Best news I've heard all day! Msgr Jim is a thorough modernist and we at OLL don't want him anymore than you wanted to lose him.

Get this straight: We conservative "vigilantes" will fight this liberal hack till the very moment he heads out of town back to West Hempstead in his black Mercedes.

Sorry it didn't work out. He's a nice guy, but we'll fight him and his modernism till our dying breath, and one last thing: if Bill Murphy sends us another liberal hack like Lisante we'll do the same damn thing over and over again.

Nothing personal and all the best!

You liberals stay on your side of town and we'll stay on ours!

Maybe if your 1000 and our 1000 could get together and show old Murphy how we feel, he will send him back to St Thomas. Then maybe we could band together with the folks in Boston and send Murphy back there.

I have done my homework, and this is what I've found: Msgr. Jim is a liberal heretic who brings in suspended, fugitive priests and sodomite-supporting music ministers.
He never says Mass during the week and never hears confession either.
Sorry, friend, just because he's pro-life doesn't mean a hill of beans to me.
He's still a modernist, albeit a handsome and charming one.
I say we start a pool to see how long it will be before he's gone. In fact, we should start a second pool to see what liberal parish he'll be sent to when Murphy finally ends his punishment and ours and transfers him to a parish where friendly libs like you will embrace him and make him feel at home.
That's not going to happen at OLL.
See ya, Diamond Jim!

I'l LOL at your insane accusations! FYI, I am a lifelong member of the Coservative party and a stanch pro-lifer. Now, can we dispense with the name calling? Let's try to be civil when speaking of Msgr.Jim and try to have an intelligent discourse without all the childish repartee. Maybe a road trip to St. Thomas, a beautiful and blessed sanctuary with religious art and shrines both inside and outside both Church and Chapel, will inspire you to think about the good and faithful parishioners of St. Thomas in a more Christian light. By the way, all the art and shirines at St. Thomas were ithe idea of your new and vibrant Pastor--Msgr. Lisante, Let's try to be Christian in our continuing discourse. God Bless!

Look, friend, this is nothing personal. We were taught our catichism at OLL, and I intend to hold fast to every outdated and obsolete" notion of the unchanging faith I've been privaleged to be part of. Msgr. Lisante is a heck of a nice guy in the wrong parish. Alot of people at OLL just aren't going to buy his progressive act. No way and Bishop Murphy should have known that, and is dividing our parish unnecessarily. Time for the media star to exit stage left..

I was there at Fr. Lisante's youth mass on saturday. I remember Fr. Mason as something of a grouch growing up. I may still be in high school, but it insulted my intelligence when Fr. Lisante, in his sermon, attacked a dad who was upset about his son being gay. This is contradictory to everything I have learned from the other priests at OLL. I also saw how the altar boys have to sit next to the lead singer. If I was an altar boy, I would not only feel uncomfortable about sitting next to Peter Rapanoro on the altar, but I would also regard it as a gross error by Fr. Lisante in protecting the children of the parish.

He is no real friend of the pro life movement. As someone who has actually worked in the office of family life, I can tell you that Lisante is a wolf in sheeps clothing! He is great at attending meetings and photo-ops... but when it comes to really saving babies... he's usually too busy posing with movie stars!

Sorry to say people Monsignor is not a Liberal he is a Republican. Ha! get your facts straight. Well, you all have so much anger and time on your hands maybe you can put that to good use and work on getting McCain elected instead of Obama, but the angry people on this blog sound more like liberals who probably love Barack. Because all liberals do not like any order in their house or rules to follow. Stop crying and whinning about a Mass being changed or a new schedule of a Latin Mass, and a foreign priest who did have paper work when he first got here. Nothing would make you happy with Monsignor Lisante anyway, I surprised you haven't complained about the way he combs his hair. Bottom Line people grow up and voice your complaints to him and not to Bart Jones or a Newsday Blog. You are all cowards.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself and confess you sin of blasphemy! This is an outrage to say such a horrible lie of a man who attained the title of 'Msgr.' because of his Pro Life work!!

First of all young man address him as Monsignor he has earned that title. And if the Priests at OLL taught you something contrary to Monsignor's sermon last week, they why would sitting next to Peter Rapanoro make you uncomfortable they are human beings. A Gay Man does not make him or any other Gay Man a Pedophile. Gay Men don't prey on boys Pedophiles do while you are at school please educate yourself and don't insult others intelligence.
