Maybe if we get rid of the kids that don't belong in the district there will be more money for the teachers, who in my opinion deserve a FAIR contract.
Maybe the district should get rid of the teachers that don't like the $$$ they are making in Deer Park. They could go to Wyandanch, Brentwood, Central Islip...

No, I prefer to get rid of the kids that don't belong here. They are costing us millions. It's simple math. Get rid of the kids that don't belong and give the money to the teachers. Teachers get a raise and my taxes get lowered.

Actually, Brentwood and CI pay much more.

I will agree that this budget needs a better explanation then what legal homeowners received in the mail. I am also curious as to the change in the past few weeks where taxes were to go up and ended up going down 25 cents.
If Albany did send $4,000,000 several weeks ago, where did it go in a matter of a few weeks as the forum did ask? To fill the hole in the budget? If so it was a correct decision and applaud the people involved.d
Also, some of the monies spent have been double digit increases, I would like to know about that to before this neighborhood becomes a weekend garage sale event.

So your trying to tell me that the teachers in Deer Park are going to take it out on our children if they do not get a raise? Real Nice!! I give nothing but respect to our teachers who spend their time teaching our children. But they also picked that profession and are getting paid for it. I give the utmost respect to Dennis Ryan who is volunteering his time for us and not getting paid for it. Congrats Dennis.

God help Dennis Ryan. 420 teachers hate him. Unhappy teachers=crappy classroom experiences for our kids. Better settle that 43% contract now Dennis or our kids will be screwed. Here's a math formula: happy teachers=productive employees=happy children. Get it Dennis? Get over yourself and do what's best for our community. Stop with the vendettas and the **** you feed the public."
"Unhappy teachers=crappy classroom experiences for our kids." So what you are saying is the DP teachers (420 of them) will make it a "crappy" learning experience for my children if this contract does not get resolved quickly? This does not sit well with me. Are we here for money or children? Thank you DP teachers.

No teacher will take out their disappointment at being treated poorly by their district, on the children of the district.

That is just another teacher bashing scare tactic used by those who are trying to CONTROL public opinion of teachers.

Think for yourself, does that even make sense? Come on people. When is the last time you remember students being routinely mistreated by teachers.

Please, let's keep our arguments intelligent.

OK, first off, I do not believe Mr. Ryan ALONE has the authority to "settle
that 43% contract now Dennis" as stated above . Last time I checked there were 7 BOE members. I can not believe that "Kathleen" would openly state "420 teachers hate him" (refering to Mr. Ryan) I think perhaps we parents need to bring this subject to the attention of our 420 teachers and see their thoughts on this matter. "Unhappy teachers=crappy classroom experiences for our kids" as Kathleen explained to us. If this is the teachers intentions if their contract does not get settled quickly, I for one am appauled.
And where did you go to school? "appauled"... look up the correct spelling. I hope you are not one of our teachers!

Well,West Babylon sure has alot to add to this forum. Is this the west babylon forum? Didnt you get your own heartburn last night?
As a resident here in Deer Park, the homeowners are right. If someone claims they teach here and would use their position to take advantage of a child or children to make a point, they should be fired.
It would be good if the district request parents of children to evaluate new teachers (under 5 years experience to start) that their child had over the past year. It would be a supporting document for "performance evaluations" that is used widely in all private and also public businesses. It is even more necessary these days to monitor who is teaching our children. The school board should review these evaluations for future employment.
Again, this budget is not about teachers at all. It reaches only those in positions two steps and above that request and present budgetary increases to the public taxpayer.
How could anyone digest a budget this size? I'm sure we could do better. I know we can do better. A 5% reduction in the next budget would suffice and show our neighbors across the Island that we're serious about saving money finally.$94 million dollars to educate approximately 5,000 children a year is mind boggling.$94,471,000 for such a small town.....

Anyone interested in letting our school board hear your concerns, contact the board at their website message board at http://www.deerparkboe.com/message_board.asp

Next board meeting at the HS is May 27th. Plan on attending and try to get yourselves heard. Our teachers inspire our kids, they deserve a "fair" raise. The superintendents did not! The board unanimously voted to extend Ms. Marino's contract an additional 2 years when she still had 2 years left to her original contract... and they made her $9000 raise retroactive to July!(Salary plus benefits now exceed $225,000). They changed Caliguri's title to asst superintendent... and then voted him a raise.(that was last year).
Mr Levenstien (double-dipper) hired as interim asst superintendent of business and finance at a salary of $850 per day.($187,000 per year). Did our BOE find a permanent replacement yet?

I am a civil servant also and am not allowed to strike. I had to endure over a year without a contract or raise. What we finally got was three years at 3% increases and the 4th year we'll get a big 4%. Like I said, teachers deserve a "fair" raise, but we can't afford to keep up with all the rising costs if our salaries are not keeping up with the rate of inflation.

Check out that site and let them know how you feel.

Melanie, your ideas are awesome. I sincerely hope more of our community will come out in force to let the Board know how they feel!

About the message board on the BOE site, don't expect any of your real concerns to be posted. Apparently they only post what makes them look good. I have a number of friends who seriously questioned some of their decisions. As you can imagine, the posts never saw the light of day.

Don't be intimidated at the meetings, stand up to them. Encourage the other BOE members to speak up against any bullies. They represent US, it is time to remind them of this fact!!!!

Actually the attendance office is re-registering the students and they did this last year also.
Certainly a step in the right direction.

Dr. Parvey is the Elementary Principal at my children's school. She blatantly violated U.S. Education Law (under FERPA), as well as NYS Education Law.

In the beginning of the school year, papers were signed (from the school) and letters (composed by myself) were sent to her attention. My children's photos WERE NOT to appear in any media nor on the schools website. I even received a letter acknowledging receipt of MY letters signed by Dr. Parvey.

Having done all I could as a parent (and having this SAME EXACT incident occur within in this district last year!), I had assumed that the district would be vigilant in adhering to this policy.

Well, as they say, NEVER ASSUME! All 3 of my children's photos, who attend the school, were on the website!

Never once was Dr. Parvey involved in the preparation on this site and she was to have been. These letters were in my children's file ts her school and it was HER RESPONSIBILITY to BE SURE that this information was adhered too.

In speaking with her, at first she tried to blame the photographer. Nope, not her fault. Then she tried to blame the Technology TA. Nope, not her fault. Responsibility lies with the principal.
What would have happened had she done this to children who have restraining orders, or the like, in place? Dr. Parvey would have aided in a child potentially being a victim!

Dr. Parvey needs to be held accountable for breaking the law. Just because a person has an ED.D, it certainly does not mean that they have any common sense nor abide by the law.

Fellow residents,
Now is the time for change, on May 20th vote for PARVEY/CANGERO.
Tired of being intimidated by the BOE, vote for those who will listen to community concerns.
Dr. Magda Parvey is an educator with two children in our schools. She has a vested interest in making sure our children are educated in the best possible manner.
Let's get tough Deer Park, ask questions, dig deeper, there is more there than meets the eye.
It is time for the arrogance and intimidation to stop.
Time to break up the inner circle.
"She has a vested interest in making sure our children are educated in the best possible manner."

Are you serious?? Test scores in the elementary school she is Principal in have nosed dived since she came onboard.

She treats the children terribly (if they don't say 'hello' while looking her 'in the eye', she 'tells' them to do it. She also corrects the children should they say 'Mrs.' instead of 'Dr. Parvey'.

A little humbleness goes a LONG way!

And best of all, she broke the law. But, Middle Country in their infinite wisdom, granted her tenure.

The 'vested' interest you speak of would be in regards to her children, and her children ONLY!
