The "technical" reason is that an open hood for display purposes means you're holding a car show without a permit.

I just got back from Bellmore and it was a smaller than usual turnout on the car side, but a lot of spectators (families). It was a beautiful night and a lot of great people talking about cars and reminiscing. Yes, most, but not all, hoods were closed tonight.

Scuttlebutt is that the Chamber of Commerce ironed some stuff out with the police and things seem to be getting back on track.

I can understand that some commuters may be put off by the influx of cars, but we usually go out of our way to clear a path when needed. Temporary garbage containers were also placed around the lot and seemed to be well used. Has to be a plus for local businesses too. One restaurant was even handing out fliers with discounts for the car meet. Just seems like a win-win all around.

It's a shame they shut down the Bellmore car night. I Went there last night and the lot was already closed before 8 pm. I rode in on my '71 Harley so I just parked outside the lot on the street with the other bikes. Rode over to Massapequa but did not see anything there. Maybe some positive pressure on the local politicians will help get Bellmore reopened. I know that I spend some money there each summer on Friday nights and I am sure other people do as well.

Hummm, interesting... I left Bellmore at about 7:45 PM and the lot was still open with plenty of cars and a lot of spectators (more than usual). Some folks left early to go (reportedly) to Massapequa.(Massapequa is only open in July and August, so word may not have gotten out yet.) The few cops that were there, mostly Auxiliary, seemed pretty cool and I didn't see anything that looked like an impending lock down.

There are several cruise-ins most every night somewhere on the Island, just wish they'd make up their minds about Bellmore.

I came out to bellmore last night again from Shirley. I brought a few friends this time. Band playing religious music, Great Food, Great Poeple, Great Cars.

Last night was kick @ss in my book. One of the best Cars shows I have been to in a long time.

I gotcha. Glad to see there was still a vibe going on down there for it. And yes the local businesses usually benefit from this. I remember when Tommy's Village Pizza would serve slices right on the sidewalk.

From what I see after several months, I think that the complainers are trying to get everyones goat (Goofin' on everybody).
I am going to start bringing my snowmobile down there once the weather gets cooler, we can run them while naked down the LIRR trackbeds, after a winter or two of this, no one will complain about the car guys again. Anyone else got snowmobiles?

I see you now live in alberston -- I am not sure why you felt it necessary to bash on the South Shore - you can take the person out of the South Shore but you can't take the South Shore out of the person -- and let me tell you something -- all your neighbors know it!!
You are very correct my friend.

I heard the car show is being cancelled for 2K11. As a person who has a life and works for a living I couldnt be happier. Now the white trash will have to find other spots to grab each other with greasy hands. I suggest Applebees or the local firehouses. Down with fat boy handjobs and up with white castle!!!

Sounds like a job for Cassaza and the BPG! Champions of the Bellmore people.

I live by the car show, and the summers are awful. The noise, the trash the transient clientele. These are the same reasons the White Castle was stopped. Why not the car show?

Come on BPG. lets get another win!

Well, here we are again,

As summer approaches (albeit slowly) the car show debate and misinformation rages on.

I for one believe hobbies keep the hands from being idle, and we all know what idle hands brings about.

So the car show, maybe is a good thing.

Maybe a curfew could be enforced though. The above post points out an interesting point. Garbage, noise and lots of people on a friday night? Why was this not fought against. Of course, one friday in the summer does not compare to the White Castle debate. But still it merits an investigation of the motives and ideology of the BPG.....

Cottage Industry should get his head out of his butt. Its every Friday, not 1 Friday a year. This town will never prosper if we have it dragged down by inbreds, BPG and the car show.

This car show is for the Devil.

To devote so much time to one object is sinful. The object is used as an idol, and looking upon an idol is blasphemous. What we need here in Bellmore is more GOD and less cars, civic associations, facebook and fast food. Focus on GOD and that is the answer. Maybe all these kids will be less high on drugs and guns and knives if they had a little sunday school.

Get your damn kids straightened out Bellmore......

the car show is only part of the problem. the main problem is the children from south bellmore who become orphans on friday nights. these brats roam the streets wildly knowing their parents wont punish them. god forbid they spend time with their kids or at least supervise them. instead they post ads on craigslist looking to swing."looking to share my wife with a d/d free bi curious male" they say. "be willing to host and send a dick pic" they say i bet. bellmore becomes boys town on friday nights. the problem is not because of the car loving rubes only. they should share the blame with the new money degenerates living in the swamps of bellmore.

So many angry people....over a car gathering? Its a train sation people, not a residential street. You mean the trains screaming by dont bother you but a bunch of cars parked there do? Theres far worse things that people could be doing. If it's not for you, then dont attend. As for Vince who has a job and a life...your life seems to revolve around complaining about what goes on in someone elses friday nights and posting on this board. Now thats living!.

I used to live across from the LIRR in Bellmore and would feel as well as hear the trains going by on a daily basis. This car show which I enjoyed, is NOTHING compared to the daily noise, parking and vibrations myself and family encountered day after day Mon thru Fri. The trains were loud and picture frames would rattle on the walls as a train would pass by. We got used to it though. What is 1 night a week for a few months of free entertainment going to cause or impact a way of life? It seems only ignorant snobs who know nothing about car preservation are against such activities that promote passion for car culture.

And BTW I love German auto engineering but still enjoy any car show that displays a car's history and it's owner's pride. Of course if the lot was filled with Mercedes and Audi's I bet these ignorant posters would not bother to challenge this organization and their car meets.
