You know it's funny that you are all accusing annmarie of giving her friend a deal on the space when 1. It has yet to be approved by the boe so as of right now there is no deal, 2. Winkler posted the rate was 10$ a square and no one blinked when bridges leased for that, and 3. Bridges is a private school also offering early preschool education. The board granted a lease to the COMPETETION of south shore!!!!! No preferential treatment for her friend there, so that theory is dumb. Did anyone stop to think that maybe Helene feels that she has to go into Westbrook in order to compete with the new bridges program? What is the difference here? Who are you all kidding? Your out for blood because Westbrook was closed. You hold Annmarie responsible because she was that deciding vote. You all feel betrayed because she voted to close a school that her kids went to, and you feel her allegiance should of been to that. But here is the thing, sometimes in life you have to make decisions because it is the right thing to do. Leave south shore out for a second. Do you think a boxing company would have wanted the oquenock school? In the middle of residential? No. Do you think a commercial dance school would want oquenock? No. So the fact that it was Westbrook, and the fact that Westbrook was considered a better opportunity for leasing was accurate. some of the things written here cross the line. She is the mother of 2 teenage girls. Please
Put yourself in their heads for a moment and realize the pain and humiliation you can inflict with your words. realize that if a child stumbles upon some of what is written here about their mother it could be devastating to their psyche. I for one hope that she does contact an attorney ( I hear she has a few friends) just to unmask all of you.( Jessica maybe you will even find out the name if your stalker) There is a planning session tonight at the district office maybe some of you cowards should show up and ask all of the questions to the entire board, and stop using one as a scape goat.
People are allowed to ask questions. People of course should refrain from personal insults, that makes sense, but it isn't kosher to have a business partner (even if it's a dissolved partnership)jump into the newly shut building like it's no big deal. It's a big deal. In this vast wide area of Long Island there was no other competition? 10 dollars a square foot is really cheap rent, for a much larger space that is not part of a strip mall next to a planned parenthood. Come on already!

With all the allegations over the years by community members who address questionable practices of the boe and the administration, you would think that this boe would go out of their way to protect themselves from the judgements of the districts tax payers, simply by distancing themselves from anything that would seem like an indictment of their code of ethics. It's been one allegation after the next and somewhere in there lies some truth, how much, people can speculate, but for the sake of being considered honorable, and good stewards of the tax payer trust, it would be crucial to remove any doubt by avoiding these types of patronage.
You can't cry victim when this stuff continues again and again. Sorry, but after a while one should know better.

I did check and ask around the going rate for a set up like westbrook is around $17 to $25. IMO $10 is low real low. would this even cover the cost to keep it open the doors?

Why is this news now? My child went to SSLC last year and it mention right after the close they were going to move over to it. Why a year after is this a big deal.

People are bored and Annemarie is up for re election. Last year the same people jumped on the Bash Gellar Bandwagon because he was up for re election. As soon as the vote was over this board went quiet about the BOE until now.

This was not in the public arena for discussion. I didn't have any idea that SSLC would be moving into one of the shut schools. I didn't read it spelled out anywhere.

Or maybe she got you a great deal on a car from her friends at Atlantic Auto Mall, you know, the ones getting that sweet deal for a chunk of maseras property. Seems like she got you to think she's your new pal like she does with the other loudmouths in town. What better way to silence the opposition than to make them your friend.

South Shore is looking to take the kindergarten wing of Westbrook which consists of about 4 classrooms (if that) and the playground out back. It is not a huge space, but it is perfect for the needs of the school, a school whose majority of customers are West Islip residents! Yet you still have a problem with one of our schools being used as a school to teach our students. It makes no sense.
Seems like you are "in the know" now jessica. Selling out has gotten you primo access to all of that info hasn't it? When did LaRossa call you and tell you what to say? And she isn't teaching "our" students by the way, only those who pay her. Which is fine, she can have a business, but "our" students in this own are taught by the teachers we pay with "our" outrageous taxes. The fact you associate her business so closely with he WI school district proves why this deal is rotten, she, as a person elected to a position of trust, has violated that trust with this deal by the simple fact of her close ties to the school district. How does it feel knowing that a part of all of those taxes you pay went to fixing up westbrook only to have your taxes now subsidizing this business?

Oh yeah we are BFFs give me a break. WAKE UP. My son is not in her school! She can't give me any "sweet deals". And I agree that the Atlantic Auto Mall deal seems too good to be true. If I see field space being limited or anything else going wrong you can bet I will be complaining about it.

Let's go with your plan and wait around for the magical cash cow to bite while paying to keep empty Westbrook powered up, heated and staffed with custodians. Why is it OK for Bridges to pay $13,500 a month for rent which amounts to a little more than $10 a square foot? who is their BFF on the Board? Why don't you care how much the boxing school is paying or how much the dance school will pay?

I can tell you this - no one on the Board is my pal, but when you voice your concerns they do start to speak to you frequently about them. But I guess they cant do that with unknown people who cant write a post without the safety of their pseudonyms.

Why is the Bridges only paying slightly more than $10 a square foot --- it is because that is what the market can bear. I don't see any of you complaining about what they are paying, why are you so willing to throw Helene under the bus- she has done nothing but take care of our youngest children FOR YEARS. She runs that school, she teaches, she changes diapers, cleans up throw up and hugs and holds and comforts the kids at that school in addition to teaching them everything they need to know to enter kindergarten and be successful. If you are confused about how much market value truly is I suggest you call a realtor and have a conversation with them. Just because you find something on Craigslist doesn't mean anything. Just because someone out there is asking a higher price doesn't mean they will get it.
You're an idiot jessica, as nice as this helene may be, if she is "teaching them everything they know...." Someone ought to call CPS on those parents because that is a parents job. Maybe you like someone other than yourself teaching your kids everything they need to know but most of s prefer to do that ourselves.

If you reread you will see that I stated that Helene was teaching OUR students. Annmarie is teaching East Islips. I am not associating the deal with the school district, but the fact is the majority of kids attending that school will end up in West Islip schools.

By the way,not that I owe you any explanations, but I will have you know that I NEVER have spoken to Annmarie about ANY of this EVER. Because guess what? It has NOTHING to do with her and everything to do with Helene, who doesnt deserve this garbage from all of you. By the way are you directly affected by this? Because I am. My tuition payments will be helping pay the rent to this district and hopefully help us out of this financial jam.

I also heard some kind of boxing program is going into westbrook. So here we are having two closed schools rented out piecemeal to whoever comes along. Probably won't be long before Gellar's "cousin" puts his business in there as well. Yet when the board election rolls around this May with LaRossa's seat being one of the ones up for election, 90% of the voters in town won't vote, and a majority of who does vote will probably re elect her anyway. That's if anyone even bothers to run aginst her. Oh by the way, I hear the school's are another $3 million in the hole this year! Even after closing the two schools. What else is gettin cut? I hear Kindergarten will be going to half day to start. This is after the board signed off on raises for all of the administrators as well as a nice new fat contract for the teachers. How are those $12 thousand a year taxes feeling now?
just to.com ment on your kindergarten going to half day.....I know the board has states they don't think that is in the best interest of anyone. I have a son in kindergarten and you would be amazed at what they do. there is no way our education system can be successful without full day kindergarten. even in the three years since my daughter has been in kindergarten, the workload has grown!!!! I cannot believe what my kindergartner is doing. no way will they vote to go to half day. and if they do, I will lead the fight against it! I promise!

it is not my job to teach my kids the ABCs and 123s. I know I would not make a good recherche so I pay someone to handle that for me. it is my job to teach them how to be compassionate and decent, loving, caring human beings.....no need to call cps because a kid doesn't know their alphabet, but a kid without empathy or compassion or passion has been failed by their parents. keep up the good work teaching your kid to hide behind anonymous names on the internet to bully people. good job!

"An East Tennessee woman is suing a person whose identity she does not know after they wrote a post about her a popular social media website.
In a lawsuit filed January 8 in Hawkins County Circuit Court, Rogersville resident Sarah Davis claimed an anonymous user was defaming her reputation on Topix.com , a website where people can post their thoughts in hyper-local community forums.
The anonymous person, who goes by the name "LUV2WALK", wrote on the website that Davis had committed adultery in a Rogersville park. Davis denies the claims and is now suing that user for $200,000.
Her attorney William Phillips II said there were multiple posts and threats made in regards to the allegation.
"They [the user] certainly have an agenda in defaming the character of Ms. Davis," Phillips said.
He said he would like for the anonymous user to reveal their identity as it would be "the noble thing to do."
"Individuals post on Topix on a daily basis," Phillips said. "They constantly defame the characters of everyday citizens and I think they do it under the guise they can hide behind their anonymity."
In the lawsuit, Phillips and Davis have given the anonymous user 30 days to file a responsive pleading under their actual name. If the user does not do so, the lawsuit reads that Phillips and Davis will ask the court to issue a judicial subpoena directing Topix to hand over all copies of all threads and posts pertaining to the lawsuit. The lawsuit also said that the subpoena would ask Topix to provide the user's IP address, which would help identify the person behind the posts.
Phillips said he and his client posted a notice on the website directed toward the anonymous user that has since been removed.
10News talked to Topix CEO Chris Tolles about the matter. He said Topix, which is widely used in Appalachia, does not think Phillips and Davis' proposed actions sound unreasonable.
"If this goes to the court system and we are subpoenaed, we are unlikely to stand against that subpoena," Tolles said. "I haven't seen it yet, so it's hard to say what I will or will not do."
He says under the Communications Decency Act, Topix is not responsible for content posted by third party users.
Tolles said he admits there are advantages and disadvantages to allowing users to post anonymously on Topix. However, he said it is a feature the site needs in order to build up users in smaller communities.
"Our ability to actually do something interesting requires there to be some sort of audience there," Tolles said.
Either way, legal experts like Knoxville attorney Don Bosch advises web users not to make defamatory claims online as they are subject to the same laws that they would be anywhere else.
"Defamation is defamation and whether it be electronic, print or spoken, it still subjects an individual to a civil legal action should they make such a statement," he said.
Uhhh, your warning of impending litigation doesn't hold water.
You referenced a matter inwhich an anonymous poster defamed someone by posting that person had committed adultery. Additionally, the anonymous poster then posted threats against that person.

In the anonymous posts about south shore center and all individuals involved, no threats of any kind made against individuals or entities. Additionally, defamation can only be found if 1)the statement (post) is proven to be false;
2)the false statment (post)can be proven by the accuser to have had a negative impact on their life or livelihood.

Did you know that although this case has been filed in Tennessee, the courts have yet to decide whether there's enough merrit to even issue a judicial subpoena for the anonymous poster's IP address?

Hold off on offering posters free legal advice because it's wrong.

If someone offered 2.00 a square foot, from everything I'm reading, so long as it's rented and generating something, it's better than nothing. I'd like to buy one of the new computers for six cents, and no one better try to low ball my bid! Because, from the way things have been going, it's realistic bid, as long as the community is getting something.
