Does anyone in this town really even care about this? After all, 90% don't even vote during the school budget/ board elections.

So instead of paying a private landlord thousands of dollors in rent they will now be paying the WI School District. Smart idea to me. It would have been WB or Oquanock. Either way we get the rent money.
Nothing surprises me about any of this! It won't be thousands of dollars a month in rent either. For a little store front in West Islip someone quoted 7000.00 a month about a year ago. Bridges is renting out far more space than some rinky dink store front and for the bargain basement price of 13,500 a month they get everything from soup to nuts and a space that is 15,000 sq. ft. So it's not a stretch that the learning center will have a cozy little deal, with a larger space and extras thrown in for good measure, EXTRAS THAT, this town paid dearly for.

ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz that's basically what they counted on and they counted right!

If you don't see the slickness of this move, you're not being real.

If I report annemarie larosa on the T.I.P.S hotline ( http://www.wi.k12.ny.us/tips.htm )that she is ripping off West Islip's taxpayers, do you think I would ever get the $2,000 reward?

SHE PUT A NEW BOILER IN THE SCHOOL NEW PARKING LOTS NEW PLAY GROUNDS NEW COMPUTER CENTER. TOOK HERSELF OFF WEST ISLIP SSLC AND TOOK OVER EAST ISLIPS. SHE BEEN SETTIN THIS UP FOR A FEW YEARS. NOW SHES GOING TO PAY EXT TO NOTHING IN RENT AND THE TAX PAYERS WILL HAVE TO PICK UP THE REST.
You have this down exactly to the letter. Let's forget for a moment that she owns the East Islip location currently, okay? Let's just talk about how she is a West Islip boe member, an Islip zoning board of appeals member, and was co-owner of the West Islip location for years and years. She is the founding member of paws and co-director of the West Islip Summit Coalition, among her many community hats. Very very involved hmmmmm!
The spot light, the focus, the glaringly obvious point in all of this is, that her community foot print has entered into many arenas, her tentacles have reached beyond what one might consider normal involvment. It's not that hard. Keep asking the questions and keep digging, because if you think that it doesn't pass the smell test, it's because it's probably rotten to the core!

This is my 8th year at South Shore. That split is not just on paper. I have not seen Ann Marie in the West Islip location in YEARS. She has been running East Islip and Helene has been running West Islip. The East Islip location also provides day care and because of insurance requirements and other things, it was best to break up the partnership. That is all.

Ann Marie is an elected official. You don't get elected to office without having a lot of friends. She knows most of the business owners in this town, so if any of them moved into the building, we would be hearing the same garbage, just like we hear about the realtor and this one and that one who are friends with Ann Marie. Bottom line is that these people who happen to be her friends are good at their jobs and there is nothing wrong with giving your friends jobs so long as they are qualified and good at what they do. Don't you get work from friends and recommend your friends for jobs, etc. Wake up that is how the world works. It would be one thing if these people weren't qualified but they are. Helene and her staff are great, they really love our kids and have taken excellent care of all 3 of my babies for the last 8 years. Who better to move into a school building that we need to rent out than another school. It makes perfect sense. And if Westbrook didn't close, Helene would have moved into Oquenock if Oquenock closed. Or if only one elementary school closed she would have moved to Kirdahy because it makes sense that if your lease is up and your classes for next year are filling up and there is a bigger place to move to, you move!

The truth is Helene is not getting a deal. She is paying market value just like the other schools that are renting the buildings. If she was paying less and getting more I could understand your concerns but that isn't happening. Westbrook is a better location than where Helene is now and the town needs money so it is a perfectly sensible move that will benefit preschool children in our town!

Westbrook was closed over Oquenock because of a security issue but the security issue was that combining the two schools into one would cause a traffic hazard. That was the security issue. It is a perfectly safe building. You just couldn't have 500+ people dropping off kids with only one way in and one way out. It would have caused a traffic nightmare.

Bottom line is we have empty buildings. They need to generate revenue. That is it.

PS - you can't say I am a friend of the board as everyone knows I complain plenty to them when I don't like what they are doing.

Watching this unfold over the last few years is like watching a Bad Dukes of Hazzards episode we are living in a town that only a select few privileged get to take advantage over the rest with the staring roll going to Annmarie “Boss Hogg” Larosa. What I want to know is how the rest of the Board of Education going along with this is. Simon is untenured so I get why he has to kiss the BOE ass, but why is the rest of the BOE going along with this pig Boss Hogg. Why won’t this town fight back and say no.

I believe it is $10 a square foot. The Bridges is paying $13,500 a month for 15,000 square feet, which is a slightly more than $10 a square foot.

And I don't know for a fact but I would guess that the ENTIRE BOE feels that renting a vacant building to a preschool is a good idea.

Either Westbrook sits there empty (and even though it is empty don't think you aren't paying for it. We still have to pay for custodial staff, heat, electric, etc.)- this is a complete waste of our money OR we start using it to make some money.

A dance school, a boxing school and a preschool sound like good options to me. The people living near Westbrook can't complain about having students back in that school.

South Shore is looking to take the kindergarten wing of Westbrook which consists of about 4 classrooms (if that) and the playground out back. It is not a huge space, but it is perfect for the needs of the school, a school whose majority of customers are West Islip residents! Yet you still have a problem with one of our schools being used as a school to teach our students. It makes no sense.

This is called total paranoia. WB has operated as an Elementary school for years with no security issues.
Once again people are spreading rumors and half/truths about what is going on in the District. I have NEVER had a problem asking a member of the BOE a question at a meeting or in person. You get what you give and I truly believe the people who have the problems with the BOE have problems with many they come in contact with.
I'm not sure my question was answered. Did a security expert and a board of education member say Westbrook was dangerous or not?

westbrook is not dangerous. I suggest you call Mike Zotto a board member and security expert to discuss your concerns. the security issue came from there being an increase of over 200 students should Oquenock have closed. oquenock has a bus lane, a parent drop off lane and separate parking lot. westbrook does not. buses and cars enter and exit in one entrance which would have made for a traffic situation and this would have posed a danger to walkers etc. for our needs...the preschool ....there won't be a danger as there won't be over 500 students in the school

No Jessica going rate is about $20+ a sq ft. and does NOT include all.$10 would not even cover anything. this is a finished wired move in ready school with smart boards a new wired computer center (this is the real cost putting in the computer center not the computers) playgrounds and I am sure they are going to use the Gym, lunch room, kitchen the rate should be $25+ with everything that’s included.$10 you think that’s a fair rate what a joke! Come on your smarter than that.

You are a huge complainer, always have been!

Who determines who is qualified or who isn't qualified?
She should have no corner market on these issues because of how far her tentacles reach, Jessica.
She holds a seat of accountability, and just because business opportunities present themselves to her and others BEFORE everyone else in the community, does that mean she should sieze the opportunities and allegedly use her influence to set things up in a nepotic way? I personally don't think so.
Naturally, that possibility is of course, a big concern, as it should be, for this community. A lot of things are changing in our town, change that everyone should be looking at under a microscope that's for sure!
