Really huh? Just because you can ride them does not make BMX parks. As you are well aware the lines taken by bikes are sometimes completely different from skaters. This is not a pump track where everyone is going in the same direction. You can use Greenlawn it is not far away from this facility.

You're going to have that Greenlawn park all to yourself soon. Just bike that. I'm always one of a handful of skaters in there. If anything I'm getting cut off and fearing I'm going to have some metallic juggernaut slam into me. Don't get mad because all the local kids have bikes and just sit on the ramps all day. I see some BMX Riders in there, but you guys fly way too fast and high, this is why you can't come to the new concrete park.

I go to Chelsea Piers almost every weekend, and Bikes cannot function in this kind of park (Same builders who are building the one in E.N.P.). You have to come to face the reality. Sometimes kids get the bikes in through the turnstile (Don't ask me how) but if they do, Skaters ask them to leave, and don't stop until they do. Otherwise - they'll just call the cops.

BIKES WILL KILL SOMEONE IN THIS KIND OF PARK - I CANNOT REITERATE THIS ENOUGH. THIS IS WHY THEY ARE BANNED - IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE.

You want to come in to the new park so badly - then pick up a board. It's the best i can tell you.

No. This is a skatepark designed for skaters by skaters. I'm sure BMX'ers could do some cool shit in there but the fact is you really can't mix BMX and skaters in a park this size. A collision between a BMX bike and a skater at full speed will send the skater to the hospital.

While seasoned BMX'ers know better than to drop in on somebody, most of the kids who would show up here on bikes don't know shit about skatepark etiquette.

I don't want to be skating and then get knocked out by one of those Greenlawn bikers who's got his ipod blasting and can't see me through his Justin Beiber haircut

<quoted text>Well it should be a BMX park and why would i ride a golf course they suck there is nothing there every bmxer is sending stuff to the town but they are not doing anything alot of skaters think its still unfair to keep bmx out
The idea oldtymer is trying to get at is that Northport was an effort to get for 5 years solely by skateboarders. Not at one meeting for planning it was there a single biker to support it. If there was one person there who bikes I'm sure it would have allowed bikers too but there was not. I have friends that bike, I don't have anything against bmxing, but skateboarders and bmxers really cannot fit in the same park. I have been in at least one collision with a biker just about every other time I've skated at Greenlawn. And Oldtymers idea with the golf course is that: a golf course is designed by Golfers for Golf, not any other sports. Northport Skatepark was designed by Skateboarders for Skateboarding, not any other sports.

BMX riders should just ride at different times then skaters. I skate, and i don't feel like getting blindsided by a biker and having to watch my back. They should be able to ride, but they should schedule it so bikers and skaters are in at different times.

but concrete parks are different than regular parks. Lines are much faster and much more dangerous. I skated FDR in Philly for 5 years and you really see it there. Concrete parks just can NOT be shared between boarders and riders. Maybe different sessions would be an answer to this problem but either way when they mix people get hurt end of story

yeah like i mean since the new park is a pay park there should be equal sessions 50% skate 50% bike i'm down with that

ENPTNPTBMXers, you are a god damn idiot, sir. Breaking into the "skate" park while it still isn't open is the worst thing you can possibly do.

This just sets a bad example for the bmx scene in general. It's a park built for the skateboarders and you broke the rules already.

After all of this complaining and bickering about it not allowing BMX at the new skatepark isn't going to get your anywhere, go to the town like the skateboarders did and get your own project going.

Ride elsewhere in the meantime, it's not the end of the world. Not much else can be done for you if you don't make an effort yourself.

That is classic. You must not realize that by doing so you are showing the town officials that you are
irresponsible. Just look at how trashed Greenlawn has become since it was overrun with bikes. We, as
skaters, got the funding for the town to build this facility. Went to countless meetings and helped design this facility. Where were you? Form your own group and start petitioning the town for a park.

ENPTNPTBMXers, I cannot wait until the day you get caught for riding in the park. How do you get your bike in there, anyways? There's going to be a turnstile there, do you just throw it over the fence?

Maybe they should put barbed wire at the top of the fence, that would keep the bmxers out and it would enhance the prison-type feeling it's already creating (with being monitored, having to wear pads and having to pay).
