What happened to RObert MAyer?

Sam bee. I do not understand your raw emotional pain and your lashing out. It must make you feel very torn up inside feeling so angry. I could have chosen that way to live, and I for a long time I did.

The details I did not share. This was long before internet. The family member was my father. He was shipped off to Viet Nam and saw some horrific things. Once he was in a huge Huey helicopter with 40 others and just before landing they were nearly shot down, and the only two that weren't dead or maimed were him and the pilot. He went to jump school, which was very risky, in order to better support his family. My parents separated just prior to him being sent to Viet Nam, and when he left, my family moved to the one state they said they would never move to. I once found a large stack of letters written to us, all sent airmail from overseas, asking my family if he could please see us. My dad suffered horribly in Viet Nam, and his mind was never the same according to his sister and cousins. He looked for us for all those years with the few resources that existed then. His whole family told me this when we found him. We never stopped looking for him. And, he never stopped looking for us. We learned this when we found him.

When we found him, he was teaching computer science. He had obtained his masters in psychology, and he had picked himself up from at least some of the pain he had lived. But, he still struggled, and it saddens me even now when I think about it. He put me through college and became the best college tutor ever. He was amazing in that he could tutor me over the phone and somehow help me to visual even the most complex algebraic or chemistry formulas and solutions.

I long forgave my family for doing what they did. Please do not speak negatively of my family members. I don't. And, I ask that you do not either. People who are miserable sometimes act out inappropriately and behave badly. I still loved them, and I am at peace. This was long ago, and my mom and dad are gone now. I loved them both, and I still love them and miss them each day.

You never know the full story until you know the full story. And energy spent on anger with no path to constructiveness is not helpful. None of us know what happened to Rob factually, and unless or until we do, none of us have room to judge.

Please, can we get back to Rob and how we can help find him and bring him home? I am up for ideas, and imagine so are all in his family.

Jeanne, truly an amazing story !! Ty for all of your knowledge and input. For now I will continue to spread the page and pray for a positive outcome.

Just a thought, but is it certain he didn't leave with a bag or anything? If not, and he did leave willingly, maybe somebody picked him up ? I don't imagine a man walking onto a train or around a neighborhood with not much else but a gun and nobody thinking it's odd or remembering that!

That ,Jeanne,is a VERY different story than a dad just picking up a d taking off and never contacting his kids Very , very different and while I have the utmost sympathy for what u and your dad went thru, he tried to find u and u had moved q d had family who kept him from you. That scenario is certainly not the same as a dad who just walks out because he wants to (if that's what happened here), which I doubt I meant no disrespect to you or your family but that is so not the same thing and I still have no sympathy for the dads out there that do such a thing

I don't want to take away from searching for Rob anymore, and I am sorry if I did. Thank you for understanding, Sam bee. In my case, we were told our father left us and didn't care. We didn't know the real story for all those years. What I am saying is that even if Rob did leave on his own, we don't have the whole story. What if he left with plans to come back to see or be with his children, Ida, or both and for some reason never made it? We don't know, and maybe we should put the bad father idea down because his family is reading this. I mean family on both sides is reading this. It is hard enough for someone to go missing. Sometimes the tough questions need to be asked and it can be painful. But, a lot of this talk is just anger and raw emotion with little thought about what it may do the loved ones left behind and to actually help to find Rob and to solve this most unwanted mystery.

Thank you Lisa. It is possible that Rob left with a bag and/or that someone may have picked him up. If he left on his own and took his shotgun, he would most likely have put it in a bag or perhaps concealed it in some other way. It was small enough not to have given itself away, at only 18" from end to end. Nothing has been ruled out as far as I know.

Jeanne777 so you have been involved with this kind of thing for years What do u make of the situation? Do you believe all the info that's been given?? Or do you think something sinister happened that day? Maybe he never took a gun. Who knows no one saw him. No o e saw him get picked up. And what do d make of law enf saying no criminality? What do u make of the wife lying about her whereabouts that afternoon?? Just curious about what u think

I just wonder about the bag, I feel like if he left with a bag, this was planned....he left on his own and disappeared... Either with someone's help or not.
Another thing that crosses my mind often is , Ida hasn't been exactly truthful and forthcoming , if rob contacted ( or contacts) her , I don't think we would ever know ! She would prob carry this charade on so she doesn't look like her hubby left her for the proverbial pack of smokes. For all we know he could check in on his kids everyday , and we would NEVER know ! Could that be why searches, and all efforts to find him and have her story heard were shutdown , fb page private?

My hopes are should Rob contact Ida she would let Rob's family know ( and of course LE) he is alive and well. The public does not need to know anything more than their efforts are no longer needed. As to searches and all efforts being shut down, I don't know if they were every officially shut down. It could be that Ida is doing things behind the scenes. I don't imagine that the public can do much more then put up his flyer, and get his face out on the internet and pray. Without a foundation of details regarding his disappearance that people can regard as truthful it is hard to know where to search.

I am not sure how many of you are aware of Frank Gianetto. Apparently, he was a low life criminal, possible drug dealer/pill pusher.
This was mentioned briefly on the WS boards.

He was found dead of a GUNSHOT wound in the vicinity of the Deer Park Train Station about 2 weeks after Rob's disappearance. There really isnt any additional information about his murder, and I am not saying this has anything to do with Rob, but I can't help but think it is.....especially since we know there is a gun missing from the Mayer household. It's too bad we don't know the caliber bullet that was used.

I personally don't believe in too many coincidences, but you never know.

Here are some links to his story: Not sure if you can post links here, you may have to copy and paste

That is very a n interesting theory , but it would seem to me , likely that if there was an inkling of a connection , that media would've picked it up. There has been absolutely no word of this. In all this time. And one would hope that , since the wife went public with all this and asked for help publicly, that if there has been contact , that she would at least say he is located and that they are dealing with their issues privately. If she had not asked publicly for help I'd say she owes no explanation, but since she did I think she at least owes the public that

I have a question!
As far as we know, Ida is unemployed, except those piano lessons.
How can she pay taxes for that enormous house and other living costs?
Did she had savings?
Are her parents providing for her?
Can they afford that with their pensions?

Agree, xheraidina, I am not jealous of that house, I think he attorney said that, not my type but raises the question of how she is surviving with no job? If her parents are helping is okay to, but if they are helping her, if they were my parents i would go out and get a JOB.....If she has the savings, ha ha, who's money did that savings come from, stolen money.....I know Rob did not make millions?

So how much would she spend per year?
60 000?
Where does she get that money?
Yes I envy her, I want to have the same life style.
I want to put on a pale lip stick when I talk to journalists, so that they they can see I am in mourning but still I do care about my look :P
Get over it Ida and tell where have you disposed his body!

Exheraldina , I think you are right But interesting story. I live in Venice beach calif part of the year. Just returned. There are literally thousands of homeless and near homeless men wandering that area. When I went to give away the food before going back to ny. One guy told me he was from Massapequa and had left a wife and 3 kids 8 yrs ago and that they probably thought he was dead. There are many more like him. This is nothing new. And having told that , I still think exheraldina is correct and I have thought so since the first lies surfaced

Maybe not, but people are going to wonder...especially with Ida's sordid past.
