Federal agents raided a house on Unqua Road across the street from the Unqua Elementary School Wednesday morning as part of a drug trafficking investigation, officials said.

One man was arrested, according to U.S. Postal Inspector spokesman Tom Boyle.

Postal inspectors raided the home as well as locations in Baldwin and Central Islip after receiving warrants related to the investigation of a California based marijuana operation, according to Boyle. Two arrests were made in Baldwin, and one in Central Islip.

The warrants were issued after inspectors noticed a number of suspicious packages coming from the San Francisco area, Boyle said. A drug sniffing dog also picked up the scent of contraband and authorities decided to move.

DEA, IRS and Nassau County officials were also involved in the operation according to Boyle.

The Massapequa raid took place shortly after 8 a.m. The arrests had no connection to the Unqua school and agents told school security officials that there was no danger to students or staff, according to a letter sent out to parents. The raid wrapped up at about 10 a.m.

Still, Massapequa School Superintendent Charles Sulc was troubled by having a raid so close to one of the district's schools.

"It is appalling that, despite intense efforts to educate our community, students and parents about the danger of drugs, an individual could be involved in the distribution and marketing of illegal substances in such close proximity to an elementary school," he said in a statement.

"It reinforces the fact that all of us on Long Island must continue to be vigilant in our efforts to spread awareness about substance abuse."

Typical Massapequa drug dealers - their is so much drugs in Massapequa it is home to 80% of drug dealers on Long Island. They have sold to the same kids and now adults for so many years they do not sell outside their group to be safe and know they will not be caught.

They live in fancy houses have kids who go to the Massapequa school system and these creaps sell drugs in Massapequa everyday - they say some 70+ drug dealers reside in Massapequa.

You must be the sames person from belmore who just keeps chancing thier name and busts on Mass all the time. what happened to you did you get beat up as a kid by someone from Mass or lose your girlfriend to the captin of the Mass football team? Yes, there are drugs in Mass. Guess what, they are in Belmore as well and every other town on Long Island. Massapequa has over 24,000 homes (including Mass. pk), so 70 (if your number is right) makes it .002% of the houses are drug dealers. Is that a lot?

Well said. He's always on here bashing Massapequa, its pathetic that he thinks one town on LI is responsible for all the drug dealers. He probably can't afford to live here.

Massapequa isn't the small, quiet community OT once was; but then again, what is? Personally, I have seen and heard of many people selling drugs around the HS. I called the authorities and reported it too. The problem with police on long island is that they appease the public on the spot but do little in following through. Anything for the next BIG contract. Don't expect much enforcement from most cops that you see in the cruisers Any issue dealing with narcotics will be flagged to the proper unit and handled in priority order. The way I see it, the people of Massapequa are more concerned over protecting the image of their community than dealing with the notion that they just might be living in the heroin capital of Long Island. Also, many are not willing to accept the notion that their own kids are involves in trafficking dangerous drugs. Parents need to get closer to rheir childrens cricities if they dont want to risk a situation of embarrassment, shock and disappointment. As a comparison, I offer a different crime, but same ideogy. When the Penn scandal, involving J. Sandusky, broke many people were discussing the idea that almost everyone around him HAD to know and did nothing about it. Further, many accused J. Paterno for being more concerned with the reputation of the University over dealing with a damaging and more serious issue. The term used to describe behavior justification in these instances is Cognitive Dissonance. People are not willing to find out the truth when deep down they suspect or are "in the know" of a bad decision, situation or future outcome. Towns, Zipcodes and Area codes aren't dangerous. People who live in them, who opt to engage in criminal activity create the reputation. My motto is Say something, do something or give up and have the lesser of two evil mentality.

Anyone who thinks Massapequa is a sleepy little hamlet is very naive. These lowlife drug dealers walk amongst us as our neighbors, friends, and yes even families. Until the outrage gets to be enough to out these scum bags nothing will change. They drive around in their shiny toys made on the misery of their customers. They care nothing about you and your children. Wake up!!!
