My chiweenie Nan-e-hi was healthy and a happy little girl. She had lots of energy. I fed her Ol' Roy in a can Hearty Loaf with chopped chicken in the 6 pack 13.2 oz. cans. UPC code 81131-89769. This specific code is not on the recall list but the brand is on the list and I cannot seem to get ANYONE TO RESPOND TO ME through menufoods.com or the FDA.
Nan-e-hi became sick...diahrrea, vomiting, stopped eating, was real thirsty, lost her bladder control, ran a fever, was very lethargic, lost all her weight within days and with 24 hours she died. I was told by a veterinarian it was too late to save her and that she had Kidney failure. I miss her I cannot stop crying still!!! The memories of her suffering while dying in my arms are haunting me every second of every day. I am soooooo sooooooo angry because not only is my babygirl gone, but these people are not responding to me. Please if you are using this brand, consider it to be on the recall list.
I think that my dog is dieing from the same thing he is seizing up and barely breething and i had to feed him that dog food this morning. I dont know what to do.
Thanks

We have an indoor cat and became really sick this past weekend, was so weak she couldn't leave the kitchen, stopped eating, her breath smelled fowl, she drooled and lost tons of weight.

We took her to the vet and he couldn't tell by examining her, her membranes were pale, she was anemic, took exrays and her stomach was full of air from complicated breathing but no lung problems and her digestive system was completely empty and she was extremely dehydrated. and on the way to the vet she urinated all over my lap. she's on fluids now and blood tests should come back this morning to see any diseases... i am very sad she is only 5 years old and the doctor says whatever she is suffering with has been slowly creeping up on her and just now making her sick...

it is highly un-likely since we have another cat AND dog that eats special kitty cat food but if it's from the food I will be royally pissed... to everyone that's lost a pet my prayers go out to you... im almost sure my little kitty will have to be put down.... and it breaks my heart....

my 7 year old sheltie became ill on 2/14/07 after having consumed mighty dog pouches. especially the beef. her battle ended on 3/7/07. i am totally devastated. she and i lived alone in this apartment and i am now totally alone with no resources to get another dog because of my $2,000.00 vet bill
I too had two Sheltie's die from the dog food poisoning. They died within a month of each other. The youngest only 4 years old and such a Happy Healthy dog died within a week. The other one had to be put down. The vet recmended it because of Kidney failure. I am heart broken. I cry every day for them and it has been almost 5 months since they have been gone. Beverly

I am so sorry about all of your pets. Our dogs are our kids since we choose not to have children. My prayers go out to all of you. i didn't know if anyone has been having problems with Merrick dog food. Our dogs have been on it for the last year, but when we got a new bag of dry food and cans of wet food 3 weeks ago, our dogs have had continuous diarrhea. They have been to the vets twice, and it was just noted from our vet that 2 other dogs on Merrick wet/dry food have been sick.(I also found out that someone I work with's dog has had diarrhea on Merrick the last week).Has anyone else heard of any issues? Our vet put our dogs on new food today to see if it is the Merrick brand that is causing the ailments. Thank you.

My Golden Retriever has been on Merrick senior medley dry food for a while and has been having constant diarrhea also. I think it may be the food. I don't know if it's to rich for him

We lost our precious black lab, Homer on February 28, 2007. We were on vacation and he always had separation anxiety. Our 25 year old son, at our request, started mixing pouches of meat/gravy, chicken/gravy as well as canned CAT FOOD with his regular dry Iams. This was always such a treat for him. We still can hardly stand the pain of knowing we are responsible for feeding him poison! It has been unbearable to the point of severe health problems for both my husband and I. I'm sure this will never be read by the greedy, negligent people at the top of the 'food chain', but at least I can get it off my chest. My prayers are with all of you who lost your pets. I feel your pain.

I have been feeding Merrick puppy plate for several months now. I just bought a new bag and it doesn't look the same..no veggies nor small bits of apple etc...My dogs all have runny stools now, and gassy as heck...what is going on with the quality control? I wrote the company and faxed them and will call tomorrow to see what they have done.

My 6 month old had to be put to sleep. The vet thought that it was something else. He was so sweet and never ate anything but IAMS puppy food. He suffered so much for several days. It was terrible to watch.

The vet thought that he had DYSAUTONOMIA. Now I'm not so sure. That is rare and I don't know how he could have contacted it.

I have a 10 month old Golden. He's never been completely "right" as far as this goes and only recently have I really begun to question this food. I've just stuck with it since it's supposed to be one of the best. However, my pup is now to the point that he has massive "runs" and, since there's so much hair with Goldens, I have to constantly clean him up. You know, with 3 kids, I didn't think I'd have to consistently be wiping and washing my dog! I, too, have noticed inconsistencies among the bags. Have you switched to another food that works since posting your original question?

My dog had vicious diarrhea from Merrick's wet food. It was the first time since she's been house-trained that she actually had a massive case of diarrhea in the house, and she was sooo embarassed about it. I switched her diet and it resolved. I originally bought about 30 cans of the stuff, and noticed that 5 of them were completely spoiled when I first opened them. They just did not smell right, and I didn't feed my dog from those cans. But feeding her the cans that smelled fine caused the diarrhea. This has not happened with Merrick's before, and I'm convinced that there was just a really bad batch produced.

Anyway, I plan to go to the store tomorrow to return the rest of the cans, and will try to call Merrik's during the week to report this.

I had the same problem with Merrick's dry food. My dog was actually hospitalized after eating from a bag of Merrick's that didn't look normal. What happened with your dog? Did the problem resolve? Did Merrick help you with it?
