my 7 year old sheltie became ill on 2/14/07 after having consumed mighty dog pouches. especially the beef. her battle ended on 3/7/07. i am totally devastated. she and i lived alone in this apartment and i am now totally alone with no resources to get another dog because of my $2,000.00 vet bill

WARNING!!!!
It is also IAMS Chunky Chicken - my dog almost died from seizures, had red urine and I had 10 cans of that stuff left... what saved him was that the vet had me calendar his seizures and I included urinating cycles, extreme thirst, lethargy and seizures along with what I was feeding him daily. Luckily, he got a few cans of IAMS Chicken and Rice during that time or he'd be dead, and then pure chicken breast (see story link). See http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/2007... for the article.
I am feeding home made dog food now along with B complex amino acids vitamins.
If your pet begins to drink a lot of water - STOP his food!

A good friend lost her sweet young, HEALTHY, indoor only cat to Iams cuts and gravy a couple of weeks ago, before the recall stared. The cat was on mostly dry food, with cans only for a treat ... and within 48 hours of becoming ill her kidneys were so far gone there was no hope. She had spent $1000 trying to save the cat before the vets said that it had gone too far. She would have spent MUCH more if it could have saved her cat. Nobody could figure out what happened until the recall notice came out.

I tossed out the one packet of 'gravy' food I had, even though it was not on the list. I am worried about the dry food I feed now, as tehre is no reason why THAT couldn't be involved as well. I'm terrified of feeding any of the canned "treat" food I have, even though there is no recall on those.

I hope the company involved is prosecuted

I FED MY BEAUTIFUL DOBERMAN, "NUTRO, AND MAX", THE BEEF AND GRAVY, OFTEN IN THE LAST YEAR, AND SUDDENLY WITHIN A WEEK SHE VOMITED, QUIT EATING AND DIED. I WILL NEVER BE THE SAME, ANY OF MY ANIMALS DYING AFFECTS ME IN AN EXTREME GRIEF, BUT I CAN'T SEEM TO GET OVER THIS DOG'S DEATH. IT HAUNTS ME EVERY DAY AND NIGHT,...SHE WAS LIKE A PUPPY..SEEMED HEALTHY AND RUNNING EVERYDAY, ENJOYING LIFE AND PLAYFUL....AND THEN BOOM!! I'VE NEVER BONDED SO MUCH WITH ANYTHING LIKE I HAD WITH HER...(OTHER THAN MY CHILDREN). I ADORED HER AND CAN'T BELIEVE I THOUGHT SHE WAS GETTING THE BEST FOOD...ONLY TO FIND OUT..IT WASN'T.

I had 2 cats that had to be put to sleep because of kidney failure due to eating the special kitty brand cat food. George was 2 years old and Tigger was 6 months old. They were extremely ill. If the manufacturer would have gone public earlier their lives would have been saved.

Joey, my Sheltie, died of kidney failure on March 16th 2007. She became lethargic and lost her appitite, drank lots of water. Then she stopped drinking water. My vetrinarian couldn't figure out what was wrong, but by the time the blood and lab tests came back, her kidneys shut down and her blood sugar rose to 900. She died on the morning of 3/16 and that night the news broke of the recall. I gave her mighty dog pouch food. I called the Menu Foods number and told the rep that was answering the phone-he was completely appathetic and gave me another number to call, just got a recording at Nestles saying I don't have to be concerned about their products!! I don't want anything from them except some sympathy and the promise they will only sell safe products.

My dog had to be euthanized due to kidney failure. She was fed IAMS Chunky Chicken with Gravy for the last few months. She had renal failure. It amazes me that reports show no dogs have died.

I need to add that my dog, Roxie, was the perpetual puppy even at 11 years of age. She was perfectly healthy until she started eating IAMS Chicken Chunks with Gravy. She spent Christmas Eve at the emergency hospital, came home and ate Prescription Diet dry food but didn't like it. I mixed a half of can of IAMS Chicken Chunks with Gravy and she went downhill. I spent over $2000.00 to have her diagnosed but the vet couldn't find what was causing her problem. I think the vets got blindsided on this.

These stories are so sad. My sincerest sympathies to all of you who have lost a pet because of this horror. I have pets and I have had pets die and I know how important they are and how hard it is to lose them. www.rainbowbridge.com has given me some small degree of comfort when I have lost a pet. Please read the rainbow bridge story, it is very heartwarming and will help you all smile again. Your pets were very lucky to have people who loved and cared for them so much. Someday, when you are ready to give another special animal a place in your life, I hope many of you will consider rescuing animals from shelters. They need help and love so much and they always turn into the best pets I have had, they truly appreciate the life you give them. Again, my sympathies.

Please check into the dry Iams dog food as well. My 7 year old dog Angel was fed the Iams dry dog food from January 5th to the 25th of January and died that night. She had a very high fever, was vomiting profusely, and couldn't hold her bladder. She couldn't stand up It was almost like she was having a stroke. My husband called the vet and he was out on a call. He called back later and the vet told him to give her pepto bismol and bring her in in the morning if she wasn't any better. Our precious little angel passed away that night.
March 20th I was talking to one of my customers and her parents cat was taken to the vet because she was fevered and vomiting. This cat was also being fed the Iams dry kibble cat food. Please Please check into the dry kibble pet food. I really believe the kibble is a effected as well. These pets were very healthy pets. Please save other pets
Thank you for your concerns in advance

Mid February I just bought Iams dry dog food. My two year old Golden Retriever started having severe seizures. Three in one day. What the heck is going on. She is a very healthy dog. Are we poisoning our pets with this higher quality dog food.

My healthy 9 year old 140lb Rottweiller literally dropped dead March 13/07 from what looked like an exploded belly. He was on Iams dry weight control management. HE STOPPED EATING HIS KIBBLE A FEW WEEKS BEFORE HE DIED BUT WOULD EAT HUMAN FOOD.HE SUFFERED FOR WEEKS AND LOST HIS ABILITY TO WALK. THE VET COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WAS WAS WRONG WITH HIM. HE EVEN ASKED IF MY DOG COULD HAVE GOTTEN INTO SOME ANTIFREEZE.I TOLD THE VET I SUSPECTED THE FOOD AND EVEN TOOK IT BACK FOR A REFUND BEFORE THE NEWS RELEASE. IAMS WET & DRY KILLS!!!!!

My chiweenie Nan-e-hi was healthy and a happy little girl. She had lots of energy. I fed her Ol' Roy in a can Hearty Loaf with chopped chicken in the 6 pack 13.2 oz. cans. UPC code 81131-89769. This specific code is not on the recall list but the brand is on the list and I cannot seem to get ANYONE TO RESPOND TO ME through menufoods.com or the FDA.
Nan-e-hi became sick...diahrrea, vomiting, stopped eating, was real thirsty, lost her bladder control, ran a fever, was very lethargic, lost all her weight within days and with 24 hours she died. I was told by a veterinarian it was too late to save her and that she had Kidney failure. I miss her I cannot stop crying still!!! The memories of her suffering while dying in my arms are haunting me every second of every day. I am soooooo sooooooo angry because not only is my babygirl gone, but these people are not responding to me. Please if you are using this brand, consider it to be on the recall list.

My very healthy six year old Wheaten Scottie was laid to rest on Tuesday, May first. She was fed dry food that was NOT on any of the recall lists that I ever saw. My whole family is grieving her loss. She too died of kidney failure. I was told to report it to the FDA, but apparently they are so overwhelmed with calls, you get a recording and have to leave a message. I DID get to tell her goodbye and apologize for feeding her the toxic dog chow. We miss her dearly.
