If we found that wheat gluten intended for consumption by people was tainted with rat poison everyone would be up in arms that our food supply has been attacked by terrorists. Why hasn't anyone from the government addressed this? Is it possible that this rodenticide was purposefully applied to a supply of wheat gluten?

Make your own pet food till it is safe to buy.Boil fresh chicken livers for 45 minutes than add rice to thicken and flavor with seasonings and cheese.Experiment till you get it good.Actually costs less and your pet will enjoy it more.

I think it is obvious how this happened, Menu foods buys tainted wheat gluten from china, the chinese are not really all that concerned with poison getting into food for pets, look how they treat dogs and cats over there. Also china has a huge rat problem, so i believe they sprayed the wheat in the storage tanks. Just think if this had been in peoples food imagine the outrage then. All I can say is everyone who feed their pets the food should take the animal to the vet for a kidney function test, whether or not the pet shows symptoms. I think we will see alot more animals die in the coming weeks due to this, once it is ingested it goes to work. Ya know what really burns me, Nutro is on the list, I worked for them, I sold that crap to people under the pretense that it all free range and grown in these nice farms in California, Bullsh.*t. My 5 year old cat was eating Nutro Natural Choice until last Sunday night. I bought it because I thought it was manufactured here in the US on nice little farms. Wrong! I took her in for a pre-cautionary blood test Wednesday (she had no symptoms) and Thursday morning the vet called to say she was in the first stage of kidney failure. She spent 3 days in the hospital on IV fluids. I was lucky enough to bring her home last night! Her kidney levels are normal right now, she will need another blood test in a week. The worse part is nobody knows the long term effects of this poisoning. She may have survived now but has this taken off 5 yrs of her life? We don't have the energy to file a lawsuit yet, we are still in shock!

has nothing to do with this article but is about animal cruelity. I am a student at dowling college for 3yrs now. I found out yesterday they are getting rid of their security dept. Peg the dowling dog who chases the geese works with a guard, I talk to her all the time so I can see peg, she has been taking peg home for years and everyone at dowling knows peg is very very skiddish of other people and loves her mommy very much, peg is 7 yrs old, why take her from her mom, dowling just let peg go, dont put peg through the turmoil, she is not an outgoing dog and is affraid of her own shadow, we all know this, don't be inhumane it is taking a child from her mom, you had this guard take this dog home for years and love it and care for it and now you are going to seperate them, don't be cruel, you treat dogs like this so parents beware don't send your students here. fellow students make a stand against this.

I own a cat and a dog and I want to know WHY there is not a LIST of SAFE canned food for dogs and cats as there are so many foods under different labels. SOOOOOOOOO print the safe foods so we pet owners know what to feed our animals. Thank you

Each can has printed on it,'made in the USA',
doesn't that represent a company has a responsibility to the it's patrons, who purchase this product for it's animals,to be safe?
If any part of this product is purchased off shore, itn't the responsibility of the company
to make sure it's safe and not tainted in any way?
aren't ingredients tested when it come in from off sure?
What is really scary about this is, if we are unable to trust dog and cat food, what about the food we eat?

you can't list safe foods because of the potential for lawsuits....

What if the create a "Safe List", and two weeks later there is a problem with that food? Then the people who created the list will be sued.

I use Friskies which is owned by Purina and is NOT on the list.

My cat died on last Tuesday. I have another cat who is now showing symptoms. Both ate that food and I do not know what to do. I just found out about the recall and it is too late for my baby. Shadow, the one who died was my best friend and baby and there for me when I had an accident. This should never have happened. I have been waiting on disability for 4 and half years and finally waiting on check since approved. I cannot afford to take my cat to the vet now. They were seen less than a year ago for a check up.

This should be a "wake up call" to all of us. This WILL someday be the next terrorist attack, the HUMAN food supply chain! Exactly as someone else posted, if it says MADE IN USA we should expect strict regulations/testing.etc. But it ISN'T happening for our pets and you can be sure that IMPORTED foodstuffs for human consumption are similar!!! If my dog or cat die from this ...some S.O.B. is gonna pay!

If they find that this was intentional I hope they punish the person. Here in Texas animals have no rights and people get away with harming them all the time. I hope they pay for what they did whoever it was, the company or an individual. Sounds like a person to me because how else could it have happened?

Sue the pants off of them!! I am so sorry for your poor kitty. I have 3 and am somewhat relieved that I only feed Iams dry food. But who knows now? I hope they all go out of business for this, this was negligance or intentional.

Sorry to hear about everyone's losses. I think this issue definitely deserves more attention. I don't have a dog or cat but am a reptile enthusiast so I can appreciate how peoples pets mean alot to them.

Why don't you leave her alone, shes trying to save an animal, just because you do not care. She has a right to speak or write where ever she wants. Grow up. There being inhumane to an animal.
