Got the special budget edition of Lion's Pride in the mail today. The inaccuracies and omission of information is criminal.

I agree Dan. What's even more sad is that we the taxpayers are paying for that propaganda pamphlet to be printed and mailed to all of the residents of WI! I noticed that there wasn't one WIHS student graduating with an IB Diploma. As a matter of fact, there wasn't any IB accolades mentioned for any of the graduating students. Just another awful money sucking decision made possible by our board of ed.

Did I read it right when the boe said the teacher's union rejected a freeze in their raises?
Aren't the teachers the ones who are doing all of the work?
Did the boe consider freezing any of the administrator's raises? The boe gave themselves an increase in their budget I noticed too. I agree with what Dan said "criminal" and it's the students and taxpayers who are the victims.

I'm having a hard time trying to sell West Islip and their bare bones school district to potential buyers. Nowadays it's easy for people to use Google and see academic success or failure of a school district. We've had a lot of potential buyers lose interest in West Islip soon as they compare WI's test scores to surrounding towns.
Brightwaters and South Bayshore are very popular spots for young families now.

Today's WI doesn't compare well academically to the towns surrounding us. Worse yet is the fact that today's WI doesn't compare at all academically to the WI of just a few short years ago. Numbers don't lie. Look them up and see it for yourself. I guess the reader who judged WI Realtor's post as 'nuts' and 'clueless' either didn't see WI's NYS scores posted on the Dept of Education website or maybe they know all too well how WI's academic scores are dropping consistently year after year and they need to keep up the facade that WI still has an outstanding, award winning school district. Buckle in for the big announcement of the closing of one of WI's middle schools. It's coming sooner than you think...

Why do you still live here???? Dont tell me you cant sell your house either because as I have said before I have quite a few friends who had to move for job and other circumstances who had no trouble selling their homes and that is in the last 2yrs or so. So, if WI is so bad why do you stay?

Why so hostile? We're still in WI b/c our youngest has one more year in high school. Once he's done, so are we. It's true that WI's housing prices have gone way down and it's not just due to a poor economy either. Did you know WI is the only district that closed 2 schools at the same time? 2 grade schools no less. Don't be fooled. Closing those 2 grade schools did some major damage to the value of your WI house. Did you know that? Your friends probably sold their houses for pennies on the dollar and are too embarassed to admit it. Take a good long look at our town. Its best days are behind it. Took me a while to come to terms with that b/c I grew up in WI & raised my family here. Believe me, WI is now a ghost of its former self. I'll miss it. Good luck and best wishes to all who stay.--Jim

It wasn't meant to be hostile, I'm just tired of people complaining about how much they hate West Islip but still live here. If you don't like your circumstances change them. If this person hates the schools so much and believes their kids are getting an inferior education then what kind of a parent are they to stay in WI? I happen to think my kids are getting a great education in West Islip and if they happen to close a MS in the next few years my kids and I will adjust and they will still continue to do well in school. Not everyone who disagrees with someone is being mean or hostile. I was just asking a question

James you are right. The truth hurts for some people. West Islip is deteriorating. Property values are going to be dimished with the next wave of unsustainable mandates pushed upon the states and are being implemented in local school districts. Why pay taxes here to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars when you can move to another state for the same curriculum being set up to align with the Common Core Standards and pay way less?

When race to the top money expires in 2014/15 where is the money going to come from to continue the deranged common core standards? Anyone know? Does anyone understand the APPR? Does anyone realize the people, billionaires, looking to make tons of more wealth with tax payer dollars? Does anyone know what InBloom inc. is? Do you know what data mining is? It's bad enough our youngsters are losing more, but that is our local issue and I'd rather deal with a battle on the local level than be forced into a lock box handed down by the federal govenment known as the Common Core standards, where there is no local representation. Where locally elected people and administrators have their hands tied. This is a power grab, it's going to hurt our community and school district and it is making the lives of our students, teachers and principals miserable already. I prefer autonomy and academic freedom for our teachers and principals, it's always served our community well.
Not now with this ONE SIZE FITS ALL curriculum and state standardized testing. There is no reason to keep paying these grossly high taxes if we no longer have local control over what our children learn. West Islip will look academically the same as any other district across the country, except we will still have to dig deep into our pockets ALONE to foot the bill that this CCC power grab is going to saddle us with. Not every school district has the same taxing structure as WI. You can thank the likes of Bill Gates and Arne Duncan to name a few, and don't forget Michelle Rhee and Eli Broad, not to mention those on the bottom who will stand to have their palms greased for being good little sheeple. They will get the crumbs dropped down in the form of green stuff, and although it's not millions, it's compenation enough for being cooperative and instrumental in seeing this to completion, while the tax payers are being ripped off.
Be mindful that parents were not part of this CCC power grab. Our children are not guinea pigs and our tax dollars are not an endless supply of continuous wealth for these evil genius's. Also it's time to tell Pearson's and the state to stop using our children to augment their products by forcing them to participate in field testing. Don't we have child labor laws against these things?
Parents in West Islip and all over New York need to wake up!

Looking for budget information I went to district website. Awful! Do they have libraries? nothing about the education they provide.
