Last paragraph of article:
"It provides the Dolan family with full control over the editorial debate/news media agenda on Long Island since it already owns the dominant television station, cable's News12. Secondly, it gives them leverage to directly monopolize the advertising agenda on Long Island, whether via digital or print, by offering one-stop shopping and pricing. Lastly, by acquiring the other properties that are part of the Newsday family -- any and Star Community Publishing -- it corners the market and helps them to better market and promote their entire entertainment and sports portfolio in a structured cross brand technique
EXACTLY why l don't think it's a good idea!!!!!!!

Too much power for one person or organization. Do you really want ONE organization controlling every bit of media that enters your house? What your kids watch and read? There's a reason why they call it a monopoly! I can't believe that any government would allow such nonsense, but then that's why I moved out of Long Island.

The weather and commercial channel as I call it because out of one hour there is about fifteen minutes of news.

Moffett is wrong. The economic model of newspapers is not being eviscerated by the internet. It's being eviscerated by publishers and editors who knew how to take money from captive advertisers for their print product but don't have the smarts and imagination to come up with a workable business model to pay for free news on the internet. Tim Knight, take a bow

Silva and cronies desperately need to retire or go start a retreat somewhere out east. Kids in H.S. journalism classes can write more accurately than the channel 12 rejects. Lokinkops.
