Toddler dies after fall down stairs

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services says it is investigating the death of a 3-year-old boy who fell down stairs at his home in Melrose Park on Friday.

Unless there's something going on that this article didn't address, I think it's terrible that the authorities would add to this family's grief by taking away their other children, essentially accusing them of directly causing their child's terrible accident.

Accidents do happen and sometimes it's not abuse or neglect.

The authorities are getting overzealous in some instances. They are compounding this families unimaginable grief.

You don't REALLY think the DCFS has at least something to go on before they take the kids? Is that what you REALLY think? Read the Tribune for several weeks and you'll read many sad stories of children dying at home - and yet DCFS does not take kids out of all those homes.

Even if the other kids go live with their relatives for a couple of days - don't you think that's fair?

Bill Cosby is black & he's outraged by the way blacks abuse their kids. They've been doing that for so long that they think it's normal & they do it in front of people. That's the sad part. The cycle continues with their kids & their kids, etc. read what Bill Cosby said in Newsweek.

He's black & at least he's admitting it. He wants black people to change. It has nothing to do with racism. It's just the way things are with a lot of blacks.

Believe me, DCFS has a way of snowballing things. They told me they would take my two children from me if I didn't put a restraining order on my husband. They use excessive force and act like cops. All they've done is broke up my family and left me for poor. Then when I told my caseworker I was losing my house, she told me she would be able to find me subsidized rent if I wasn't married...to the person they forced me to get an order of protection against! Whom I no longer live with because of them! They are only working to meet thier bosses' quota. Trust this from my experience.

DCFS probably is a little overzealous in this case. They seem to presume child abuse in too many cases. I've heard of other horror stories. As a child I fell off our back porch in Chicago. Was my mom bad for letting it happen? Absolutely not! I wasn't hurt in that incident. Although, my mother was shook up afterward. I can't imagine the state making matters worse by taking my siblings away too. Are parents supposed to keep kids on a leash? Toddlers move FAST. You blink your eyes and your child can be gone. Literally. Life is too cruel sometimes.
The Melrose Park/ Maywood area is a great example of suburban segregation. Drive several blocks in either direction from the block where this tragedy happened and you will go from Black to Mexican to Italian.

I have to imagine that the DCFS does NOT take kids away from their home unless there is a substantiated reason. There has got to be more to this story than they are letting on to at this point in time. I'll be watching for the story to unfold. I just hope they don't leave us all hanging...

Excuse me but before you go publishing this wrong information that you are being given you should get the story straight, our family is going through a tough time right now with the little boy having passed away and yet you go on publishing something that is incorrect. You should get your facts straight before you go on and tell the whole world about what happened. And please next time have more respect for the family as we are going through a real hard time and it is tough that a 3 year old has lost his life do to the fact that God needed a little angel at his side. And having the parents lose one of there wonderful children was enough and then they got the newspaper and read about this and it made it even worse and added to the pain that they have been feeling since we learned about what was going on.

Yes we may be Hispanic but that doesn't mean that these accidents happen only to us it can happen to anyone in the world no matter what race you are. As I said God had a major plan for this little boy and he is with him and his parents are going through a tough time please do not be saying such things like that. We as friends and family members feel pain and sadness not as much as they do but we feel for what happened because he had a lot more to live yet he is in a better place and watching over us.
