This can be summed up with one word “clout” Every investigator and tactical juvenile radar officer and right down to animal control officer in Melrose Park has “clout” which translates into not knowing how to do their jobs. In other towns you earn a position in Melrose Park you are owed a position. Examples: Michael Scudiero hired in 2003 promoted to investigator 2007. Why? Because he sits on the pension board and most importantly he has “clout” I’m sure Inv Scudiero earned this position after his extensive training after 4 years on the job. Oh and by the way Inv Scudiero is #1 on the sergeants list too. Tactical Officers James Nowicki & Leonard Bartemio both live outside the Melrose Park village limits which is against village law. James Nowicki sits on the pension board and Leonard Bartemio was and is currently drilling Ex Chief Scavo’s step daughter but they still have “clout” Juvenile Officer Orlando Lascola & Bill Treffens , does Melrose Park have a mass juvenile problem that they need a separate division for juvenile officers? No! Every Melrose Park Police officer should be trained on juvenile matters like every other town. We don’t need “clout” juvenile officers. On to Radar Sgt Charles Rinella lives next-door to Chief Pitassi. Can’t the patrol division handle radar like other towns do? Rinella really has big “clout” he has the privilege of having full use of a village vehicle which he takes home every day his wife and family also use this vehicle. The reason for this is in case Rinella gets called out for an emergency accident investigation, but how often does that happen? Never! So does the village need to supply him and his family with a vehicle? No! Our radar Sgt also makes his own hours coming in at 4am 5am or 6am and completing his tour at 12pm 1pm or 2 pm. I’m sure these are useful time for this “clout” position and money well spent for the village. Now to Animal Control Officer Michael Licther (ACO) nearly $90,000 is spent on a full time police officer to chase dogs, cats raccoons & skunks. No other town has a full time police officer handling this type of position. I see more animals roaming around at night but ACO Licther only works 6am-2pm. This way he can start drinking earlier and pick up hookers on Mannhiem Road. Licther also is very generous to the mayor donating a grand each year to the mayors cocktail party now that’s “clout”. These are just some of the clout positions in Melrose Park Police Department. One more thing all of these officers have weekends off because we all know no crimes happen on the weekends. Right! Please feel free to ad your clout stories to the post and Please Help Us Mr. Duke

Again, here is the truth, and it might sting a few people but it is the truth none the less. And as I said before, the real victim to this incompetent untrained police department is Ron Susek whose MURDER investigation was botched from the start, and will go unsolved.

Obviously you need to get your facts straight because if you knew Earl you would know where the nickname came from and his level of intelligence. My experience in dealing with people tells me you are someone who is very insecure which is why you took time in your non eventful lives to post this ridiculous paragraph because you know by taking jabs at a friend of ours would be the only way you could get intelligent people to read anything you type.

Let’s not forget the scam that Ex Chief Scavo and his cronies had going, strong arming corporations. Cops providing security protection while still on the clock. Let’s go back a few years to when cops had an insurance scam going on, taking bribes and setting up innocent officers. MPPD is a disgrace and that is putting it lightly.

Officer and supervisors fouling up murder scenes, Stolen Radios sold to the pd by dc castellan. Officer's son's on a police list without college credits. Officers stuck on midnights without a chance of living normal life's or changing shifts. Officers selling ads for the Italian club on duty and in uniform. Not being able to control his department. Law suits against supervisors at the federal level. Racial law suits. Pitassi is just as bad as Scavo in fact in some cases he's worse. Pitassi was suppose to straighten out the police department not screw it up.

My writing was not an indictment of the Melrose Park Police Department as a whole. It was an indictment of the administrators and supervisors and their way of doing things. I guess by extension it can be seen as an indictment of politicians since they choose the top administrator and so on down the line.

We all know politics exist in public employment. It exists in the police department where I worked as well. And I am sure that politics played into the handling of this investigation.

The handling of Ron Susek's murder is a clear indication of what is wrong in Melrose Park in general but it really is a symptom of a disease which lives within Melrose Park and that is the need to to think everything that happens needs to be "fixed" on some level.

If the crime scene in Ron Susek's backyard was handled properly all we would be discussing is what a shame it is to lose a good man in such a tragic manner and not the horrible police work that was done.

And thanks for all the supportive comments. It is greatly appreciated. I know everyone on here uses aliases because of the nature of the topics that get posted.

I do not respond to negative comments made with alias names. I do not hide who I am nor am I afraid or ashamed of who my family is. My name is Earl Filskov and I use DukesDailyBlotter on here because it is easier to use and relates better to what I do.

Should three supervisors be patrolling in the same squad 1101? No! Then why do Lt Scatchell Lt Urso & Sgt Scavone do it? That’s over $325,000 a year for three supervisors who will never do any paper work, write a parking ticket or write a citation or make an arrest. What would happen if two patrol officers did that? Suspended! Where are you Sam Pitassi or Michael Castellan when this is going on? I'm just sayin. Its a waste of Melrose Park funds #1…….. To be continued

So shocking to hear about corruption in the MPPD. NOT!!! This has been going on since I was a kid and that was long ago!!! Mayor Taddeo ran the show back then and they had a gem as the building inspector names Sonny Stomotakis, the most corrupt man I've ever met. Any honest businessman who was unwilling or couldn't afford to grease his palm was run out of business due to a variety of "code violations.". Growing up in MP made The Sopranos even more realistic. I would not be surprised to learn of some sort of cover up, but I certainly hope not for Ron's family's sake. I am thinking it was likely someone breaking into his garage or he caught someone trying to break in, drew his weapon and was shot by the killer who fled. I still have family and friends in MP, but am glad I am no longer living there. Praying for justice for Sgt Serpico. Keep up the good work, Duke!

may/june double murder on 24th. 2 weeks later kid shot on 23rd. 2 weeks later retired officer shot to death. 3 dead 1 shot six times and all we get is a letter about crime. But lets worry about giving parking tickets to families that been here 3 generations, way to go. Instead of stopping all the shines that walk up and down division and 19th all day which by the way are the suspects in almost all the shootings. Great job

All these comments are fine and dandy, and alot of them are getting off topic. Is there anyone out there that can truthfully and honestly say that MPPD did a fine job at this crime scene? That, and Ron's murder is what this is all about, not all the other BS.

Eight steps that should be taken immediately to get MPPD on the right track for the future
1. Sergeants & Lieutenants start answering calls like every other police department on the planet.
2. Terminate the two Village Hall police officer positions and return the two officers to shifts.
3. Disband Radar Unit and return radar detail to shifts.
4. Disband Juvenile Unit and train officer on each shift to handle Juvenile cases
5. Replace Animal Control Officer with part time officer and return full time officer to shift.
6. An officer must have six or more years on the police department before entering a specialized unit. Detectives & Tactical or Special Assignments and seven year before taking a promotional exam.
7. Detectives & Tactical officers are chosen by merit not clout and time limit on length of time in detective unit.
8. Detectives & Tactical officer rotate days off in keys like the rest of the police department.

You must not be a police officer, or a very new one because :
1)Sgts and Lts on any onther dept do not answer calls, sgts might back someone but not lts
2)every dept has traffic units
3)every dept has detectives that specialize in juveniles
4)I'm with you on the animal officer, thats BS, but a nice gig for him!
5)no department has minimum working years for specialty positions, its based on if you swallow or not
6)detecives on every department are chosen by clout, whether outside or inside clout
Lets not forget, this is about a botched death investigation on all levels.
7)Detectives do not rotate on any department, they have on call rotation for weekends and holidays, and they are whores also

You sound like one of Pitassi's ass lickers. You'd be in trouble applying for security guard at Walmart.
