Every time someone posts facts, all 5 people who despise the Mayor put the same crap about settlements and gag orders and lawsuits…does your candidate not have issues to discuss? Didn't think so. EVERYONE NOTICE HOW PROPONENTS FOR THE OTHER CANDIDATES DON'T POST ANYTHING OTHER THAN PROPAGANDA? This is because they don't have a platform. When you don't have a platform, the only thing you can do is bash the competition.
Great idea “firstmelissa!” I proposed we have a civil discussion about what we know about the Candidates Platforms.

I received this by email after the debate regarding MICKI JOBSON.

Does anyone have a similar document or other platform information for REED GREER?

Micki Jobson’s Platform (Part 1)
MJ: I would ask for a resolution to not just rescind the SEXUALLY ORIENTED BUSINESS (SOB) ordinance that was amended in the November 12, 2008 Council Meeting but to place a permanent ban against these type of low class enterprises within our city.(There was no mention of SOBs by David Dorman or Reed Greer.)

MJ: I DO NOT SUPPORT THE SALE OF LIQUOR and I feel that if liquor gets in then sooner or later so will the SOB’s the Mayor will say that the city can approve or deny a application for a SOB (which they can). However, as a Christian and Mother I do not want THOSE kinds of businesses in our great town and would fight to keep them out. I don’t want drunks on the road in Melissa where our children are driving.
(The question was,“What is your personal stance on the sale of Liquor?” David Dorman did not commit Yes or No to the question but laid out how he has worked with the City and laid out building codes and ordinances in preparation of the Liquor proposition passing. Reed Greer mentioned that there would be a temporary increase in the tax revenues but posed the question is this what we want 10 years later. Before his time was up he did say he is not in favor of it.)

MJ: I also believe this city needs a full time Mayor and if elected I will give up my job and be a full time Mayor.(David Dorman pointed out that he is a full time Mayor but said nothing about how many times in response to Micki Jobson pointing out that he has to recues himself on a regular basis due to conflicts of interest. Reed Greer did not address his being a full time Mayor and made no pledge to quite his paying job.)

MJ: Town Center: We do not need a Town Center of this size at this time with our economy the way it is, we need to work on building up our business base and bring in more commerce.(Reed Greer echoed Micki’s thoughts, too much too soon, when the bonds we have issued come due we will have a lot to pay out. David Dorman implied we survey the citizens and this is what you wanted.)

MJ: Our population is 3,200 we must increase commerce or endure the budget shortfall plight of many other cities. One might say that continued residential growth will solve the problem, but if the development is not fully completed, the builders get a reduced tax rate on the unsold house or lots. Then it’s classified as inventory & doesn’t have the full value like your own home does, which means fewer tax $$.(Reed Greer said we have 4,000 give our take. David Dorman said I have stated we have 5,000 people but we have not declared it and mentioned a new source that claims Melissa has 4,700.)

MJ: Currently this city has over 3,000 undeveloped lots. We need more emphasis on bringing in new businesses that will help to balance our economic development with our residential growth in order to not place too much of a tax burden on either.

Micki Jobson’s Platform (Part 2)

MJ: I believe that Melissa's Mayor should always display integrity, honesty, and fairness to everyone. I want to see the quality of our town returned, and the lives of our citizens enhanced. Our citizens should never have to question the motives of their elected city officials and when this starts to happen it is time for change; our city officials are elected to serve the citizens and the community, not to be served.

MJ: I believe it is in the best interest of the citizens to have the right to know every aspect of what is occurring within in its government and when a Mayor calls for regular closed sessions, and repeatedly has recues himself due to conflicts of interest, I do not believe the best interest of the citizens are being served.

MJ: I would work to see that the current negative publicity turned around so that we are the City that people and businesses want to be a part of. I don’t want to stop growth but manage it in a fashion that will ensure infrastructure (streets, sewer, water) especially, our police and fire protection w/o these necessary services being stretched to the limit; without tax dollars these services are not available.

MJ: The council has voted unanimously on every issue for some time now, I don’t believe that everyone is getting the opportunity to express their viewpoints.

MJ: I believe that you are as good as those around you, I will use the knowledge and support entities at my disposal to obtain a variety of information to make good decisions that will positively impact this city. The Mayor has done some good things for the City, but I want to recognized his staff, they are great people who have not been given the proper credit for their contributions.

MJ: I want what is best for the residents of Melissa. I can ensure that decisions are made fairly and for the right reasons, with the impact to the City and the City residents being the foremost decision maker. I believe in total honesty and transparency to the public, Integrity and trust are the foundations for success and anything less is a recipe for disaster.

MJ: I have worked in city government for the past 9 years; This experience has provided me with an excellent understanding of both sides of city government, management and administration. I have been involved in 8 budgets, reviewed plans, issued permits, put in place policy and procedures and worked closely with the IT department in the design of a new permitting system, certified in public records, maintained 6 budgets for one department and qualified vendors.

So there you have it! Again, I received it via email, let's find Reed's info and post it for discussion as well.

See ya at the 'Meet the Candidate' night on Tuesday at 7pm.(high school cafetorium) Hope they're prepared for some really hard questions because we'll all be watching!!! See for yourself just how much your candidate knows about the city and the projects that are going on....for the kids, for the taxpayers etc. It would really be beneficial if they studied the Capital Improvement plan....I did and I've got a ton of questions for them.
Well "firstmelissa," I was there, and it sounded to me like Reed Greer and Micki Jobson had plenty of knowledge and plenty to say.

Micki Jobson is an idiot and she has moved out of Melissa. While it sounds good that Micki would have banned Sexually Oriented Businesses from Melissa it would have opened the entire city to such businesses. As bad as SOBs are they have a constitutional right to exist. What the city council did under David Dorman’s direction was limit them to an industrial area next to the landfill and with no services available. This virtually bans them from doing business in Melissa
