We need to start killing people who try to stop us from these types of things. It will make the jack booted thugs think twice. People who enforce bull crap like this need to have their neck stretched by a rope.

But then again the sheep, like Danny, support fascism.

Hmmm, interesting debate.

From it I gather the mom in A Christmas Story was a)Republican and b)would be arrested if she lived in Florida.

My mom did it, too. If you think Ivory was bad, you should taste Dial.

BTW, Danny, my mom was a liberal. She has since come to her senses and changed her ways...she's a registered Independent.

But I'll bet she'd still use the soap.

My late Dad was a life-long Democrat.
He considered W a warmonger but idolized Truman,go figure.
In school,at home and on the streets,as kids,we learned respect through fear of consequenses.
I understand the streets are more brutal than ever, but,I think the reckless lack of accountability led us here.

My mom is liberal too and was back then (I cannot imagine how horrid it would have been to have been raised by a republican mother...).

She's too Boston Democrat to ever consider being anything else.

Imagine Barbara Bush Sr. as your mom? yikes!!! No wonder Dubya like the drinkee so much.

It is NOT a figure of speech. Take my word for it.

It is old fashioned discipline. If you had had your mouth washed out with soap, you would remeber it, and it would inhibit your swearing too.

I am foursquare against child abuse; but this is interfearance with parental discipline. The police should be taught the difference.

Parents should not use just any soap. Some have scents, additives, or chemicals. The traditional soap is Ivory. The child should not be forced to eat the soap; but rather it should be run through their mouth, with them making a bite mark, "bite down." That will do the trick in most cases.

This reminds me of what happened about 15 years ago. My friend's children were acting up. Their mom said that they would be sent to bed without their dinner. They both piped up (they were in primary school) that they would report their parents for child abuse.(This is when teachers first started telling children they xcould protect themselves by reporting parents.)

I stuck in my two cents:
I asked the older child if he liked gruel.
He said "What is gruel?"

I said "That is what they will feed you at the foster home, before the older kids beat you up. Gruel is a watery cold soup made from watered down oatmeal."

They quieted down.

Child abuse?
I think not. These parents are engaging with their children.
my only objection is that they are not married, but living with children. They are too selfish. Children require ssacrifice.

Yup - Though I wouldn't put soap in my kid's mouth, I don't see how my mother doing it was anything to get arrested for.

.... I still can't believe this! I'm with old timer; good old fashioned discipline. Seems some of these kids today could use more of it!!

My mother only had to threaten to wash my mouth out with soap. She never had to do it. I have mixed feelings on this. On one hand, Back when folks did the soap thing, there were less things in soap. Now there are a lot of things in the soap. It could have cause problems then too, but I don't think it was the same. On the other hand, the decrease in corporal punishment is equal to the rise in "bad" behavior. There is a difference between corporal punishment and abuse. If the parents didn't do it every day or use laundry detergent, I wouldn't call it abuse, but I would take tv, a toy a play date away instead. As a kid I perfered the fast punishment (spanking) to the one that lasted more than five minutes. Losing privleges was torture.

This isn't abuse.

I used apple cider vinegar on a teaspoon and made them drink it. I called it "sassy juice"
