Dear Doctors, I've been suffering severe insomnia for more than 5 years. I'm age 72, and maintain a wonderful social life of both girls and boyfriends. And I'm weary of always asking for drugs in order to sleep. I'm presently dealing with my local Veterans Administration (to no avail). I'm presently prescribed with "Mirtazapine" which does nothing to help me sleep. But I I'm due for another appointment with the doctor who has already doubled my nightly dose of Mirtazapine (which doesn't do a thing for me), What do you suggest?
insomnia is just brutal, isn't it? I have been dealing with it for nine years now. And since I can't take an RX for it due to a thyroid condition, I was left pretty much on my own to figure it out. I tried a number of things, and may have a few tips that can help:
1. Use your bedroom only for sleep and sex. Get the TV out if you have one in there.
2. Wear cool, comfy clothing to bed -- or sleep nude if that is most comfy for you.
3. Meditate at bedtime.
4. Try a white noise machine.
I found that doing all of those things, combined with my natural supplement from naturalsleepformula.net really changed things for me. i fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. Although I still have bad nights, things have improved greatly overall -- maybe one bad night a month instead of ten. I wish you all the luck in the world!
