Put bag with food on door knob for Saturday morning. If you didn't get a bag, donations can be made at Winn-Dixie stores before noon Saturday, when Scouts will pick up those donations after gathering food at residences.Full Story

Frank Brunn is right. It is unfortunate that the scouts didn't like the "no" answer they received, but should have accepted it instead of running to the media. The rules state "no soliciation". Why should there be any exceptions? If people in any community want to donate or contribute to any cause or association, they will do so. They do NOT need to be bombarded by this stuff when they open their front door.

Having been on both sides I know that the scouts can be a bit pushy when it comes to these things. Furthermore, putting out those bags in this day and age becomes problematic due to the many empty homes in this area (either because of foreclosure or snowbirds). Then, you're left with bags hanging on doorknobs for weeks or even months after the collection event. The scouts do not remove unused bags; they're looking for full ones down by the mailboxes.
