What a generous mission this church has chosen -- to give back to the community in such a practical, caring way. One could only hope that this type of mission spreads far and wide to help those who really deserve!

I'm sorry, but instead of supporting single motherhood, I'd like to see this (and other churches) invest something in strengthening marriages.

DTD, your moniker says it all. Sounds like a great program ... hope the vandals can lay off and find something more productive to do.

Dumber -

Who says they don't? Not the only program this church group supports. Laud them, don't tell them what you want. Single moms are mothers first and, not by their choice, single second.

Note that Willow Creek also has such a program.

I think it's a truly pragmatic approach to home mission work.

God bless the folks who actually devote their time to making a essential item useable for those who will make the best use of them. I would think that the benefits are not restricted to single moms, just the more typical application.

I don't usually say nice things about churches and organized religion but thanks Medinah church for your efforts.

I will be sending you a small donation and McCain will have to do without a piece of my $$ pie this month

Take a look at their website and decide for yourselves if their efforts are worthy of your praise.

Maybe. A little more than two-thirds of all divorces are filed by women, so unless these women were never married, statistics would argue that two out of three of them made single motherhood a choice.

But I have to add to what 'Dumber' said that it would be nice if the church would invest some effort into keeping the fathers of those single mothers' children involved in their children's lives.

Single parenthood children are far more likely to drop out of school, use drugs and alcohol, and engage in other risky or illegal behavior than children of intact families.

'Dumber' may have upset a few folks here, but his point about solving the problem at the source is better than just treating the following symptom.

Can't Medinah Baptist do both? I bet they do.

Seems to me they respond to the immediate situation. They can't go back and time and undo what happened years ago.

They can preach prevention to people today so that there are fewer single mothers tomorrow, while showing grace and mercy to those who need it today.

Gotta respect church members who get it right.

Ditto!

Did I not make my reaction clear or didn't some of you read it right?

"WHO SAYS THEY DON'T?" i.e., both.

The article wasn't about the ONLY thing they do, just one of them! Nais paz?

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Taurus

It's no good - the prospect of visiting the post-Christmas sales has become too tempting for you to resist any longer. No matter what you're doing today, you'll try to squeeze in the opportunity to dash around some of your favourite shops and see what's on offer. You could snap up some bargains but you should guard against the urge to splurge on items that you don't really want or need. The price of something may have been slashed but the acid test is whether you'd still buy it if it were full price. If not, leave it in the shop!
