It would be great if you could get some pictures and send them to a few people to help identify and document.

my friends have seen a cat at about 50 lbs and big paws in the Taylor James develpement off of medina line. this was about a week ago and they arent making this up because one of them was scared half to death. they thought it was a young mountain lion and feared that its mother was nearby. i bet it was either that or a bobcat. most of these sightings were of a cat about 50 lbs, but the mother should always be nearby so it could be a bobcat. bobcats' scream is almost identicle to that of a mountain lion and can take down fairly large prey but not as big as a deer. that is probably why there havnt been any suspicious deer carcasses laying around in the woods.

Hi "No Name" Can you please e mail me close photos of the footprints a few feet away to wd41452@gmail.com? Place a ruler if possible next to the prints. If it's a mountain lion the prints will be between 3 1/2 to 4 inches wide and long with 4 teardrop shaped toes . Usually no claws will be in the prints unless they're from a canine. FYI,The cougar that was killed by police in Chicago on April 14th of this year was believed to have possibly traveled 800 miles from South Dakota and wild. No signs of domestication were present i.e. no gps chip, claws were in tact. Cats will travel long distances. Thanks!!

Mrs.Robertson as well as my son, daughter and my husband's relative and many other people have seen this big cat and all said it had a distinctive long tail. I am not saying a bobcat cannot be in the area also but from eyewitness accounts other than poundage the characteristics don't match up.

Good morning Jjams, The distinctive sign of a cougar / mountain lion is the long 3 to 4 foot tail with the black spot on the very tip of the tail.
This could be a young cougar or even a hybrid mix between a bobcat and cougar. There is a cat that is often mistaken for a cougar that is called a "Jaguarundi" and is native to the southwestern states. It is often mistaken for a cougar but, is a lot smaller usually weighing around 20 lbs unless that it is a hybrid with a larger cat which could put it in the 40lb range. It's face is similar to a cougar and is usually a darker reddish brown to black in color. It's tail is around 2 feet long.

I live on the edge of the NP and have been an avid sportsman most of my life I also spent several years mountain biking around several neighboring states. Tonight I heard a loud growling noise on the far lake bank while fishing that chased half a dozen deer off in the opposite direction. We have just about everything you can think of as far as wildlife is concerned here in the valley and it wasn’t a coyote, a dog ,a fox, or a buck or anything remotely like I’ve heard before. That’s what brought me to the net and animal sounds pages and here. It sounded like the bob cat or cougar noises on line. They claim there aren’t large cats or wolfs down here but I know there are wolfs around I have seen one and my 130 Rottweiler isn’t afraid of much but he wanted to get the hell out of dodge so what ever they say I have to take with a grain of salt

I saw a very large coyote this past December before the first snowfall. It loped across the neighbors field along the tree line and went into the woods. My wife and I estimated it's length to be that of a large Lab, as the neighbor has a Lab and we see it frequently in the same area. This animal was a reddish brown, had a lighter colored long furry tail and quite a pointed snout. If fit the classic coyote picture but was much larger. I have heard a pack of them yeowling just this past January on two consecutive nights, sounded like at least three animals and deep in the 30 acres of green space behind the house. It sounded like a Disney film, yip yip yip yaoooll.....

Spring will be here soon. If the excessive skunk, raccoon, and possum roadkill doesn't occure them something must be eating them.
There must be an increase in the cyote population in the area since they are also starting to contribute to the roadkill count. Every now and then I find very large paw prints in the mud and snow. Even if it is just a dog I don't want to run into it at night.

I asked an honest question. I heard that a cougar or whatever attacked someone's horse, and just though I'd ask.
All kidding aside, found nothing on the Cinci Inquirer or WLW site updates or archives. The radio did report the shooting of a coyote on I-75 Thursday morning. Troopers who shot it claimed it was responsible for numerous deaths of stray cats and small dogs around the area.

Well folks, it's another gun happy cop. I saw a picture today of the large cat, mentioned in the previous posts. It is not a domesticated cat, it's a full grown mountain lion. It was caught on a game camera and was carrying a very large whitetail buck in his mouth. The picture was taken in the night, west of Canton, near Wooster, OH.

Coyotes have been in Ohio for decades. The eastern movement of this species stops only at the Atlantic shore.
Rascally critters they are, but to hear a pack singing in the thin winter night air is to experience tingly wonder and fascination.
I like to hear them sing as I line up my shot...found four dens on my property last month alone...
