I worked at Gowe/Sullivan/American Color in the early 90's. What a shame to see the ACG execs run that place into the ground. Best of luck to any of my remaining friends still there. My heart goes out to you.

NTVB is a printing company in Troy, MI (about 20 miles north of Detroit and 4 hours away from Medina).
They have equipment similar to the Medina plant and are looking for press operators who have experience on Medina's C-150 and other 4 high type presses.

Its no wonder vertis is so bad off financially. They fly, rent hotels, cars for 11 people every week just to come back and forth to our plant. They shut down the SA plant and are removing our Plant manager out and theirs in. Oh and dont get me started on VMAC the most retarded program written. A program that can find a vertis roll number but cant cross reference it to the mill number???? what kind of inventory control is that? these rolls i run on my press have stickers the material handlers place on them, lord forbid a sticker gets scraped off the side and the number is lost lol. I tried to get a material handler to bring me a stub roll so i could run a web for my next job, it took 3 damn reports before he could bring me a roll.
Belcamp MD plant closed

Vertis closed the Belcamp, MD Division (former American Color) Tuesday. The plant opened in the summer of 89. I just love how they run the plant to the end & schedule a shutdown for a couple days on the weekend & never bring the plant back up. Belcamp was the only all Flexo plant in North America & ran better quality then Vertis' Coldset plants. Belcamp is on;y 25 miles or so North of Baltimore where their HQ is. I think there was 105 - 115 employees @ the plant. They make the plant manager make the announcement @ the offsite meeting. He has to read some company approved template statement & I'm sure they would yank his severence if he doesn't do & say what they want. Vertis corporate are cowards & wouldn't dare share up & show their faces. It's just funny how they keep making announcements about hiring more & more VP's & Directors, they have a VP of everything, I've never seen a company so top heavy. O, & don't forget they cut pay again & are taking back vacation & forcing everyone to take 2 weeks off w/o pay (furlough). I think Vertis is trying to take @ all the former American Color plants. merican Color should have never merged with them. This stuff never happened w/ American Color. Those of you left better watch out. Vertis is nothing like American Color & is not an employee friendly company. They also closed the Elk Grove Village which is Chicago (Legacy Vertis) plant Tuesday. Good luck to those of you still around, watch out, I'm sure they'll be closing more plants in the next few months to come.

I worked in the medina plant of american color/ gowe printing for 27 years. I had alot of friends there when they gave me the axe. Right up to the day they announced the plant closing everyone though we would be spared. This plant had always made money no matter who owned it. I started my shift that day at 6am and by 7am i was fired. Now mind you that they didnt let anyone go by tenture or job position or anything. I hear later that the plant president had but or names in a hat and had picked out the first cut of 21 pressroom employees. After all those years of service there where employees working there that i had trained to do there jobs. I was a head pressman on a Goss C500 and a PIC ( person in charge ) of my shift. Apparently nobody of value. Then the kicker was after 3 months my old pressroom manager called me and asked me to come back. I told him NO knowing there was no future there. Fuck Vertis I'd rather die before working for them again.
