I'm upset and confused on why Akron's cold cases are rising. We hear and see more murders in the city now than ever and after the initial reporting of them we never hear anything else. I have a friend that was found shot in the head in aug. in her apartment and i've heard nothing else of her case and can't seem to find any information about it or other murder cases in our city. What do we need to do to put pressure on our police department to solve some of these crimes?

A cold case means the police can take that "much deserved" union break.
In reality, the way I see it is that if you're not "one of their own" they really don't care. I love the saying "to protect and serve" My question is, who does that slogan apply to? |

1 Exactly! Who are they protecting? If you call them out it takes forever and then they have attitudes. I know so many people in Akron that have been murdered and you see it on the news once or twice and you never see the results of anything, but let it be a cop and it's all over the set! |

Police are just people, Who else goes to work each day not knowing if they will be going home? Attitude? or survial? No, I am not a policeman or related to anyone in any way. I'm just a plain little old lady that if I'm in trouble I'm going to call one of those folks in blue to help me.

i'm with you the oplice are never there when you need them but exactly right if we were one of there people they would actually "protect and serve" akron police department needs to do there job instead of harassing people that are not doing anything and solve more major issues

When are the Akron Police going to solve the cold case of the murder of
Ricky Beard and Mary Leonard? These families need justice for this horrific crime. |

1 If there is no physical evidence, and witnesses are not willing to cooperate, there is no magic wand a detective can wave over the case file. It goes cold, and goes cold quick. Frustrating? Yes. The cop's fault? Probably not. |

I remember a young teacher who was found in her burning car by the river - dead, of course. That was yearssss ago - the '70's. I don't even recall her name, and I'm sure her murder was never solved.
Anymore, all you can do is call the police "after the fact." They just can't protect you anymore. Times are not the "good old days," for sure. |

You're sure about that murder, are you? Really? |

I've recently heard about a case that possibly could've happened in Akron or that general vicinity, in around the year 2000. I am not from the area and I'm not sure how to find out if it really happened and find out more case details. The story goes, there was a girl who was murdered there by the name of Lisa. She was assaulted by other females before being shot in the genitalia. This girl apparently was left to bleed to death. If anyone has any information on this or knows where I can find out information about this please let me know. (again I'm not certain that this even happened)

Murder closure rates accross the country have risen since the "good old days". There will always be a percentage of murders that will go unresolved for a variety of reasons. Just by reading about some of these instances where people are unwilling to testify or talk to the police there is a bit of fear being instilled in people. It is really tough to tell how akron stands out without comparing the statistics to other cities of its size. I for one dont have the time to research this nugget of knowledge. Maybe Sommeville can produce such information instead of ambigious statements such as "poor leadership". One thing to note is that the city of Stow produces statistics on intersections which are deemed problems and recieve more traffic enforcement.(I believe I saw these on their site a few years ago) Would be nice to see Akron produce and distribute some comparison statistics on closure rate etc.

1 Of course not. You are uneducated and lack critical thinking skills. Your culture values shiny material objects and devalues education and a work ethic. It has failed you miserably. |

I remember a murder that happened in the late 50's or early 60's. It took place in Coventry township to a 12 yr. old girl Marion Brubaker. My question would be to law inforcement, if any D&A could be processed? Also this case was often the subject of law classes at Akron U. as one of the worse detetive work down by the APD. Any truth to that?
